Pum Diwrnod o Ryddid to be performed in Llanidloes
One of Wales' most popular musicals will be performed in an epic one-off open air theatrical event in the heart of Llanidloes. Pum Diwrnod o Ryddid is a Welsh language musical set against the backdrop of the Llanidloes Chartist uprising of 1839 which will be performed on Sunday, September 14. Performed by a 100-strong Cwmni Theatr Maldwyn cast of people from all parts of Mid Wales, the "West End-worthy show" was written by Penri Roberts, Linda Gittins and the late Derec Williams. More from the County Times: Ahead of the open-air show, roads will be closed, and a stage will be set outside the Old Market Hall and Town Hall, near to the Trewythen Arms where three of the Chartist ringleaders were imprisoned, in Llanidloes' Great Oak Street. Llanidloes Town Council is hosting the event, which they hope will bring hundreds of people to the area and support local businesses. Cllr Gareth Morgan praised Cwmni Theatr Maldwyn productions as a "brilliant" organisation that is well known throughout Wales and England for putting on "sell-out" shows. Town clerk David Powell said non-Welsh speaking friends had seen the show and said it was "the best thing they've ever seen". Cllr Andrew Morel added that the production was an "absolutely superb" idea, while Mayor Cllr Dr John Glyn Hughes said it was "very good for the town". Pum Diwrnod o Ryddid will be performed free-of-charge in Great Oak Street, Llanidloes at 7pm on Sunday, September 14.

Llanidloes play 'Pum Diwrnod o Ryddid' revisited in vibrant production
He said 'it was a great pleasure to be able to re-experience in all its glory the Cwmni Theatr Maldwyn show which made such an impression on its first appearance back in 1988, namely 'Five Days of Freedom' ('Pum Diwrnod o Ryddid') by Linda Gittins, Penri Roberts and the late (much missed) Derek Williams'.
