Anglesey pub set for grand re-opening after £280k makeover
The Penrhos Arms, in Llanfairpwll, closed in November but has undergone a complete and external transformation under pub company Punch Pubs & Co. The establishment will re-open this July with new publicans at the helm -Simon Male, known as Lee, and Pauline Nolan. Seasoned operators with more than 25 years of experience in the hospitality industry, the duo are eager to transform its reputation while restoring it to the heart of the community. Simon said: 'Pauline and I have been running pubs for a considerable amount of time, and when we were approached to take over the Penrhos Arms, we immediately agreed. "It's a fantastic pub, but it needs some TLC, and the locals are crying out for this refresh to bring it back to life. 'Our ambition is to ensure the pub becomes the go-to place, whether that's for a nice meal, casual drink, or to sit back and relax, we want it to be a welcoming and inclusive space, and we can't wait to get in there.' The six-week transformation project promises extensive upgrades both inside and out, with guests expected to be amazed by its new look. Externally, the front and rear gardens will be refreshed with vibrant signage, a pristine coat of paint, and inviting new seating areas, perfect for families to relax and enjoy during the summer months. Inside, £70,000 of the substantial investment will be spent on all-new fixtures and fittings, bringing a modern yet traditional feel, while adding freshness and a touch of colour. The pub's trading area and bar are being upgraded to provide a welcoming atmosphere, featuring a new range of beers, ciders, wines, soft drinks, and gins for guests to choose from. Aside from cosmetic details, Lee and Pauline are putting a huge focus on the pub's food offerings. 17th-century village pub on the market for £550k
A village pub just a few miles from Bradford on Avon has hit the market. The Kings Arms is for sale at £550,000 and is being marketed by Christies and Co. The pub sits in the Monkton Farleigh, a village at the southern end of the Cotswolds. The village's roots stretch back to the medieval period and it is home to the historic Monkton Farleigh Manor, a former priory converted to a private residence in Tudor times. The listing, on Rightmove, states that it's a stone brick building with tiled roof and that parts of it trace back to the 16th century. It also states the pub retains "many attractive features, including a large inglenook fireplace". READ MORE: The pub reportedly has space for around 70 covers, as well as a large garden area that offers views of the surrounding countryside. The listing adds: "The first floor is given over to three well designed double rooms with en-suite facilities and a large master letting room, separate sitting room and a bathroom with roll top bath and shower cubicle. "The side entrance on the right hand elevation leads to the large car park and the trade garden, which has a raised seating area and views over the open countryside beyond. The outside terrace to the front of the building provides further outside trading space. "There is a single storey building to the rear of the garden with two rooms, with kitchen/diner and living/bedroom." In 2020, The Kings Arms reopened after £300,000 investment in the historic property by the property's owner, Punch Pubs & Co. Works included a full internal redecoration with new furnishings throughout. The beer garden was also updated. The Wiltshire Times reported that in August of that year the pub had come under new management. The new team reportedly included a one-star Michelin chef, Richard Tuplin. A Punch Pubs & Co spokesperson said: "As part of our ongoing business strategy, we do from time to time identify a pub that no longer has a long-term future in our estate. "After careful consideration, the decision has been made to sell the freehold of the Kings Arms pub in Monkton Farleigh."
