Punjabi Teeyan Da Mela in Navi Mumbai
Mumbai: The Maharashtra State Punjabi Sahitya Academy, in association with the 11-member Sikh Coordination Committee, is holding the first-ever Punjabi Sabyacharak Teeyan Da Mela in Maharashtra.
It coincides with Independence Day and will be held on Aug 15 at CIDCO Exhibition & Convention Centre, Vashi, Navi Mumbai.
"Teeyan Da Mela is not just a cultural programme, it is an expression of togetherness, pride, and heritage. Celebrating this festival on the 79th Independence Day is symbolic of the freedom we enjoy to embrace and share our traditions," said Bal Malkit Singh, executive chairman of the academy. He said that through music, dance and the colours of Punjab, they aim to strengthen cultural bonds and showcase the beauty of diversity in the state.

Teeyan is one of Punjab's most cherished traditional festivals, celebrated primarily by women during the monsoon season. It is marked by vibrant attire, the rhythm of the giddha (folk dance), folk songs, swings, and joyful community gatherings. Historically, Teeyan has symbolised sisterhood, joy, and cultural bonding. Bringing this festival to Maharashtra for the first time is a step towards cultural integration and promoting India's incredible diversity.
