Teacher sent sexual messages to pupil and encouraged him to smoke cannabis

A teacher has been found to have sent messages about her sexual encounters to a pupil on Instagram, as well as encouraging him to drink alcohol and smoke cannabis with her. Charlotte Doman, 32, was a history teacher in Grays, Essex, when the inappropriate contact with the boy began. In messages the teacher sent to the pupil, referred to as Pupil A by a Teaching Regulation Agency panel, she called him 'little duck' and told him she loved him, the hearing was told. She did not attend her misconduct hearing, but in written statements said the 'little duck' nickname was 'not romantic' and said that she was 'letting (Pupil A) know that someone cared about his existence' in telling him she loved him. Ms Doman, now 34, sent dozens of messages to Pupil A between April and May 2023, including one where she said: 'You're not even legal or an adult or anything. Like, am I taking advantage of you? Some days it feels like you're taking advantage of me lol.' In messages seen by the panel, she told him: 'YOU have all the control in this relationship' and also said: 'Love that you're still ignoring me. I'm gonna go get f***** up'. She also told Pupil A details about her sexual relationships, the panel found, saying in an Instagram message: 'One night I ended up with three different guys'. The 34-year-old admitted she encouraged Pupil A to drink alcohol and smoke cannabis with her, and said in a statement: 'I am unsure why any of this occurred. 'I certainly don't behave like this myself. I drink alcohol less than once a month and never to excess, and I've never taken drugs.' She made comments about the pupil's appearance and messaged him saying: 'I literally go get waxed every eight weeks for no-one to appreciate it', the hearing was told. The panel heard Ms Doman encouraged Pupil A and his friends to 'pull sickies' on a day she was off school, and at least once invited Pupil A to spend time alone with her. 'Are you and the boys going to be okay if I have to be off sick? You could always pull sickies and we'll all just game at mine all day,' she said in an Instagram message to Pupil A. The teacher admitted she had sent Pupil A messages outside of school hours and sometimes in the early hours of the morning, and acknowledged she told the pupil to 'remove all trace' of her from his phone on May 22 that year. Ms Doman denied that her conduct was sexually motivated and said she saw Pupil A as 'like her child', but the panel ruled on the contrary. The panel said it did not see any other reason as to why Ms Doman discussed her past sexual experiences, problems in her relationship and a graphic sexual extract from a book 'other than if it were in pursuit of sexual gratification or in pursuit of a future sexual relationship'. 'The context of the majority of messages…did not imply that Ms Doman just simply saw Pupil A like her child', the panel said. The panel ruled Ms Doman's behaviour had a 'seriously damaging' impact on Pupil A, his parents, the school and its wider community, and that her conduct 'had the potential to influence Pupil A in a harmful way'. Ms Doman was facing 'difficulties' in her personal life at the time, the hearing was told, but the panel ruled that she 'did not show sufficient insight in respect of the impact her conduct had on others'. In a written conclusion published on Wednesday, Marc Cavey, on behalf of the Secretary of State, decided Ms Doman should be banned from teaching indefinitely, subject to a five-year review period.

EXCLUSIVE PE teacher who had sex with a pupil and sent flirtatious texts and selfies to another is pictured after being banned from the classroom

A super-fit PE teacher who had sex with a pupil and sent flirtatious texts and selfies to another has been banned from the classroom for life. Married Cheyne Phillips, 34, was Deputy Head of PE at Healing Science Academy, Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire, when he started the inappropriate relationships, a Teaching Regulation Agency disciplinary panel was told. The fitness fanatic, who competed in combat sports and ran marathons worked at the school between 6 July 2016 to 22 July 2022. In that period Phillips raised more than £6,000 for a seriously ill child by running a Yorkshire marathon. During that time he had regular sexual encounters with Pupil B, who also sent him 'nudes' and he flirted with Pupil A on Instagram asking 'how's the head game?' The panel heard that on 6 October 2021 Pupil A's mother made a complaint to the school after she saw messages from Phillips which she considered were sexual in nature. On 15 November 2021, Pupil B's mother reported that she had become aware that Pupil B, who had recently left the school, had been engaging in sexual activity with Phillips since July 2021. She reported that Pupil B had also received a number of messages from Mr Phillips that were sexual in nature. Humberside Police, the school and the Local Authority Designated Officer ('LADO') proceeded to investigate the allegations. The panel found Phillips: Followed Pupil A on Instagram Sent one or more photographs of himself to Pupil A Received photos and videos of Pupil A Made one or more comments of a sexual nature/innuendo and/or inappropriate nature towards Pupil A Told Pupil A,'ur a secret' The panel found Phillips engaged in an inappropriate relationship with Pupil A. Regarding Pupil B, the panel found Phillips: Communicated with her via email and/or Instagram and/or Snapchat; Winked at Pupil B on one or more occasions; Received one or more explicit photographs of Pupil B Stated to Pupil B 'your bum in that suit' Asked Pupil B 'am I going to make the first move, or are you?' Pupil B submitted that on 3 July 2021, Mr Phillips added her on Instagram and Pupil B followed him back. Pupil B indicated that afterwards they continued messaging on Instagram and their messages moved to Snapchat from July. Pupil B stated that when they had connected on Instagram Phillips started to message her and repeatedly tried to arrange to meet up. Phillips had flirtatiously complemented her on her leggings whilst she was walking a dog and later kissed her in a car park after he'd been meeting fellow teachers. On a later date Phillips parked near her house and she went to meet him, and they drove to the car park. The first thing he said to her was 'are you gonna make the first move or am I'. Pupil B stated that she did not know what to do and would not have initiated anything as she was young and naïve. Mr Phillips was persistently trying to meet up and Pupil B confirmed that they met up, in total, on five or so occasions. Pupil B stated that they would talk on Snapchat but also exchanged some explicit images. Pupil B explained that Phillips would request explicit images. Pupil B recalled specifically that she sent to him two pictures of herself in the shower naked and a video of her in the shower naked and touching herself intimately. She recalled she also sent him two images where, respectively, the bottom of her breasts and her thong were shown. She also recalls that Mr Phillips sent her a couple of images of him topless and wearing boxer shorts. Pupil B stated that shortly after this on another day Phillips had arranged to meet her and had collected her in his car. He had driven to the car park and he started kissing her and put his hand on her leg and started to rub it. She stated that he then moved his hand up and started to touch her private parts over her leggings and said to her 'next time you need to wear something looser. Pupil B stated that he then said to her 's**k me off', so she did, and after this he dropped her back home. Pupil B stated that she believed that she met up with Phillips five times in total, and stated that she had sex with him on two of those occasions, and the first three times they met up they did 'sexual things' but didn't have sex. She stated that they kissed, she performed a sex act on him, and he digitally penetrated her. The panel was satisfied that Phillips was guilty of unacceptable professional conduct and prohibited from teaching indefinitely.

Teacher had sex with pupil at teen's family home

A teacher has been banned from the profession after admitting to a six-month sexual relationship with a pupil 25 years ago. Helen Flinders, 55, was working at St Joseph's School in Swindon when she kissed the student at another teacher's house following sports day, leading to regular sexual encounters at the student's house throughout 2000. The incident came to light in 2011 while Ms Flinders was employed at another school, from which she resigned a few months later. Wiltshire Police said no action was taken due to legislation at the time. More news stories for Wiltshire Listen to the latest news for Wiltshire Giving evidence at a professional conduct hearing, Ms Flinders said: "During July 2000, I went for a drink with Pupil A after sports day. "We then went to another teacher's house. I asked Pupil A for a kiss goodbye. He kissed me and it was consensual." She explained a "consensual sexual relationship" then began. The pupil said: "During the summer, my parents worked during the day and were out of the house, so they were not aware that our relationship had progressed to a sexual relationship." The pupil ended the relationship in December 2000. Ms Flinders left St Joseph's in March 2002 and started working as an art teacher at Churchfields school in September 2002. In 2011, the pupil was asked about the rumours of their relationship and confirmed it to someone whose relative worked as head of art at Churchfields School, leading to the police investigation. Ms Flinders resigned and did not return to teaching. A referral was made to the Teaching Regulation Agency in March 2022. The Abuse of Position of Trust legislation, making it an offence for anyone over 18 to have sexual intercourse with a younger person if they are in a position of trust over them, was not enacted until 8 January 2001. This was weeks after the sexual relationship ceased, so no further action was taken by the police. During the hearing, the pupil agreed the relationship was consensual, stating he never felt taken advantage of and did "not hold any bad feelings toward her". In a witness statement, Ms Flinders apologised to the pupil, adding: "I hope the process for him of reliving these events have not harmed him in any way. "I hope he can move forward in a positive light." The panel said she "seriously breached the teacher pupil boundary, abused her position of trust and failed to protect the safety and well-being of Pupil A", banning her from teaching for life. Teacher banned over intimate five-month relationship with pupil

An art teacher has been banned from the profession for kissing a student after sports day and having sex with them at their parents' home regularly. Helen Flinders, 55, had a five-month relationship with a student while teaching at St Joseph's Catholic College in Swindon, Wiltshire. A Teacher Regulation Agency (TRA) misconduct panel found she had 'seriously breached the teacher-pupil boundary' and that her behaviour represented a 'complete abuse of her position of trust'. Flinders began teaching at the school in 1994, before beginning a sexual relationship with a student, referred to as Student A, in June or July 2000. In a witness statement given to the TRA, Ms Flinders admitted to the accusations and said: 'During July 2000, I went for a drink with Pupil A after sports day. We then went to another teacher's house. I asked Pupil A for a kiss goodbye. He kissed me and it was consensual. 'A consensual sexual relationship began during the summer break of 2000. I met up with Pupil A approximately three or four times during the summer break of 2000 at his parents' house… My sexual relationship with Pupil A lasted around 5 and a half months from July to December 2000.' Pupil A stated in his witness statement that Ms Flinders regularly had sex with him at his parents' house over the summer break of 2000. He stated: 'The first time Helen Flinders and I had sex was in my parents' house. She came over, and had asked what I wanted to do, and whether I wanted to take our relationship to the next level. It therefore progressed into a consensual sexual relationship. 'During the summer, my parents worked during the day and were out of the house, so they were not aware that our relationship had progressed to a sexual relationship.' The relationship ended in December 2000, and Ms Flinders later moved to teach at Churchfields School in Swindon. In 2011, Pupil A was asked by someone he was dating whether the rumours of his relationship with Mr Flinders were true, to which he said yes. Churchfields School was notified and she was suspended and later resigned. Police began an investigation but did not refer the case to the TRA until 2022, when Ms Flinders admitted to the allegations. After the TRA panel found the accusations against Ms Flinders proven, Duncan Tilley, the panel chairman, said: 'The panel noted that whilst the term 'safeguarding' was not widely used back in 2000, there was still a clear expectation for teachers to keep children safe and protect their well-being. 'The panel considered that Miss Flinders' conduct fell significantly short of the standards of behaviour expected of the profession at the time, given the serious nature of her conduct which the panel considered to be a complete abuse of her position of trust to commence a sexual relationship with one of her pupils. 'The panel also noted that despite Pupil A and Miss Flinders stating that the sexual relationship was consensual, the panel considered the potential harmful impact that this relationship could have had on Pupil A's life.' Sarah Buxcey, the decision maker, said on behalf of the Secretary of State: 'Miss Helen Flinders is prohibited from teaching indefinitely and cannot teach in any school, sixth form college, relevant youth accommodation or 18 children's home in England. 'Furthermore, in view of the seriousness of the allegations found proved against her, I have decided that Miss Helen Flinders shall not be entitled to apply for restoration of her eligibility to teach.' Ms Flinders, who faces no police action, has a right of appeal to the High Court within 28 days.
