Hospitals charge money, but don't give security: Union Minister on Patna shooting
Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi has blamed private hospitals for failing to provide adequate security after a firing incident inside Patna's Paras Hospital. He said such facilities charge patients heavily but don't invest in safety, adding that the government cannot be held responsible for what he described as a gang war in a private setup."This is a gang war. No sadhu was shot, and it wasn't a government hospital," said Manjhi. "Had the incident occurred at a government hospital, the government would have acted immediately. Still, now that it has happened, action will be taken."advertisementHe blamed the hospital for security lapses. "Paras Hospital should have maintained proper security. Private hospitals charge hefty fees but don't provide adequate protection," he said. Referring to the state's crackdown on criminals, Manjhi added, "Ab to Bihar mein apradhiyon ko thok diya jaata hai (Now in Bihar, criminals are being gunned down)."The incident took place late Sunday night when five armed men entered Paras Hospital in Patna and opened fire on undertrial gangster Chandan Mishra, who was admitted on parole from Buxar jail. Mishra sustained multiple bullet injuries and is in critical condition in the footage from the hospital shows the assailants calmly walking through the corridor and entering Mishra's room before opening fire. The attackers managed to flee without officials said the attack appears to be a fallout of inter-gang rivalry. "This is a clear gang war. We are also looking into the failure of the hospital's private security system," said Inspector General (Patna Central Range) Jitendra firing has triggered sharp political criticism. Purnea MP Pappu Yadav demanded President's Rule in Bihar, saying, "No one is safe - not doctors, not nurses. This government is shielding criminals."RJD spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwari also slammed the Nitish Kumar-led government, alleging that it has "surrendered before crime and criminals."- EndsMust Watch

Video: 5 men walk into Patna hospital room, shoot dead rival gang member
A prisoner out on parole for medical treatment was shot multiple times by five unidentified assailants inside a private hospital in Patna on Thursday, in an incident that has reignited questions over Bihar's law and order to police, the shooting took place at Paras Hospital in the city's Raja Bazaar area. The victim, identified as Chandan Mishra — an accused in a murder case in Buxar district — had been released from Beur Jail on medical parole and was admitted to the hospital for footage from inside the hospital corridor showed five armed men barging into Chandan Mishra's room and opening fire at him. After the attack, all five assailants fled the hospital premises. Mishra sustained multiple gunshot wounds and is currently undergoing treatment at the same hospital, officials said. Police teams rushed to the spot and have launched a search to identify the shooters with assistance from Buxar Police. Officials said they are also probing possible lapses in hospital security and whether there was any complicity on the part of the hospital guards."A criminal named Chandan Mishra was admitted to Paras Hospital for treatment and was shot by members of a rival gang. It cannot be ruled out that the security guards were involved. We will investigate this angle as well," Central Range (Patna) Inspector General Jitendra Rana told incident triggered sharp political reactions, with the opposition accusing the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government of failing to curb rising crime in the state."I will request the Governor to impose President's Rule in Bihar. Nurses, doctors — no one is safe here. This government shelters criminals and mafias. There is no administration left in Bihar," Purnea MP Pappu Yadav said, lashing out at the ruling leader Mrityunjay Tiwari echoed similar concerns, alleging that the state has descended into 'Gunda Raj'. Indian family of five beaten to death on suspicion of ‘practising witchcraft'
Three people have been arrested in India 's eastern state of Bihar after five members of a family were brutally killed on suspicion of performing witchcraft on children. A mob of about 50 people wielding sticks and other weapons barged into the family's home at Tetgama village, Purnea district, on Sunday night, and assaulted and burned them, police said. Their charred bodies were recovered on Monday morning after a minor family member, the sole survivor, reported the attack to police. Police said that they were investigating whether the five people were burned alive or set on fire after being killed. The dead included three women. The villagers suspected that the family was responsible for the fatal illness of a boy in the village who had died 10 days earlier. On Sunday night, according to local reports, the child's brother had also taken ill. The victims were identified as Babu Lal Oraon, 50, his mother Kanto Devi, 70, and his wife and two adult children. The lone survivor was Oraon's 16-year-old son, who was away at a relative's when the attack happened. He alleged the entire village was behind the attack. He alleged the mob accused his mother of killing the boy with witchcraft and proceeded to attack his family with sticks and sharp weapons, the Hindustan Times reported. 'It's an Oraon community village, with most of the villagers belonging to the tribal group. We received information that five members of a family were assaulted and killed,' Pankaj Kumar Sharma, a local police officer, said. 'Whether they were burnt alive or set on fire after death is under investigation.' Although the survivor had named four people in his complaint, Mr Sharma said, police suspected many more villagers were involved in the attack. 'Raids are ongoing to apprehend the remaining accused and we're also investigating to check for any further involvements,' he added. Senior police officer Pramod Kumar Mandal said the Oraon family had allegedly been forced by a fellow villager named Ramdev Mahto to 'heal' his sick child. When the child didn't recover, he said, they killed all five family members. "This is a ghastly incident. Nobody can believe that such an incident can occur in the 21st century,' Mr Mandal said. Attacks, mainly on women and widows, on suspicion of practising witchcraft are not uncommon, especially in eastern India, despite laws banning witch hunts. In 2018, nine people were sentenced to death for murdering three members of a family they had accused of being witches. According to the National Crime Records Bureau, around 2,100 such murders took place in the country between 2001 and 2012. In 2020 alone, at least 15 women were murdered on suspicion of witchcraft.

Prashant Kishor will be CM face of Jan Suraaj in Bihar assembly elections, says party
PATNA: Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) national president and former Purnea MP Uday Singh alias Pappu Singh on Thursday revealed that Prashant Kishor would be the chief ministerial candidate of the party in the upcoming Bihar assembly election. Kishor is the founder of JSP. JSP's national president's statement is in contrast of Kishor's stand on the issue as the latter has repeatedly said that he was not in the race for the CM's post. It has to be seen how Kishor responds to his party chief's statement as the former is currently on 'Bihar Badalo Yatra', ahead of the assembly elections. Singh claimed that a wave of change was sweeping entire Bihar, and it could also be felt easily, adding that people from different villages were joining JSP. 'People are posing faith in the leadership of Kishor', he said, adding JSP was more a movement aimed at reforming society than a political party. He alleged that all political parties were only interested in power, as the state's deplorable condition was also due to it. Singh also attacked Bihar chief minister and JD(U) supremo Nitish Kumar by claiming that migration from the state had not stopped despite the JD (U) leader being at the helm for the last 20 years.
