French woman allegedly raped in Udaipur

A 30-year-old French woman was allegedly raped by an employee of an event management company in Rajasthan's Udaipur on Monday, the Hindustan Times reported. The incident took place after a party at a café, Udaipur Superintendent of Police Yogesh Goyal told the newspaper. 'The man took the victim to his rented accommodation in Sukher from the party and sexually assaulted her,' he said. A first information report was filed based on the woman's complaint, the police officer said. The suspect, 28-year-old Pushparaj Ojha, alias Siddharth, was absconding, the newspaper reported. In her complaint, the woman said that she had been in India since April 17, The Hindustan Times reported. She had taken a bus from Delhi to Udaipur on Sunday. 'At night, my friends and I went to The Greek Farm for dinner,' the newspaper quoted the complaint as having said. 'We partied then. A bit later in the evening, a man came to our table.' The man suggested that they step out to smoke a cigarette and convinced her to go for a drive, she said. The woman alleged that she repeatedly asked the man to drop her at her hotel but the suspect instead drove to his apartment, the newspaper reported. The man allegedly raped her, the complaint said. He then drove her back to the hotel at 6 am on Tuesday, it added. Pooran Singh, the station house officer at Badgaon, said that the woman told two of her friends about the incident and they took her to hospital. They also approached the police. The case was filed under a section of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita that pertains to rape.

The suspect, identified by the police as Pushparaj Ojha aka Siddharth, is missing. The complainant said she kept asking the man to drop her off at her hotel. (Representational) The incident occurred on Monday. The woman had arrived in Udaipur from Delhi on June 22. She was staying at a hotel in the city's Ambamata area. The woman told HT that she had attended a party at The Greek Farm Cafe and Restro located at Tiger Hill, when the accused approached her. 'At night, my friends and I went to The Greek Farm for dinner. We partied then. A bit later in the evening, a man came to our table,' she said in her complaint. He convinced her to go on a driver. She went to the house to charge her phone when the accused forced himself on her. The man drove her back to the hotel at 6 am on Tuesday. Udaipur SP Yogesh Goyal stated that the woman's medical exam was conducted, and a case was registered based on her statement. He added that a detailed investigation is underway to ascertain how the woman came in contact with the accused. Station House Officer (SHO) Purna Singh Rajpurohit said the accused invited the woman to step outside on the pretext of showing her the nearby sights. The woman was rushed to a hospital as she fell ill. She is in a stable condition and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital. The police officer said a team has been constituted to arrest Pushpraj. The French Embassy in Delhi has also been informed about the incident. With inputs from PTI

The suspect, identified by the police as Pushparaj Ojha aka Siddharth, is missing. Badgaon police station house officer Pooran Singh said the woman was being treated at a private hospital. 'We will speak to her in detail once she is discharged,' Singh said. A case has been lodged under Section 64 (1) (rape) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Udaipur's Badgaon police station The woman, who has been in the country since April 17, took a bus from Delhi and reached Udaipur on June 22. She said her phone had run out of battery, and she asked him to help her recharge the device. But the man forced himself on her and raped her. Police said the man finally drove her back to the hotel at 6am on Tuesday. Singh said she told her two friends about the rape. 'As she fell sick, they rushed her to a private hospital in the city and also approached the police, who lodged an FIR based on the victim's primary statement,' said Singh. The police officer said a team has been constituted to arrest Pushpraj. 'The French embassy in Delhi has also been informed about the incident,' said Singh.
