Qatar, Egypt intensify efforts for Gaza truce
By QLNews • 2 Jun 2025 11:06 Qatar and Egypt announced Sunday that they are continuing their intensive efforts to bridge gaps and overcome points of contention to reach a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, based on the proposal presented by Steve Witkoff, USA's Special Envoy to the Middle East. The proposal aims to resume indirect negotiations on that basis. In a joint statement, Qatar and Egypt affirmed their intent — in coordination with USA — to intensify efforts to resolve the obstacles facing the negotiation process. Both countries called on all parties to act responsibly and support the mediators' efforts to end the crisis in Gaza Strip and restore stability and calm to the region. The two nations expressed their hope for a swift agreement on a temporary 60-day truce, paving the way for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. Such an agreement would help alleviate the unprecedented humanitarian crisis, facilitate the opening of border crossings, and allow the entry of humanitarian and relief aid to ease the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza and end the war completely. It has invited people to come over for 'a fun experience with family during the most beautiful days of Eid.' The Ministry, represented by the Al Khor and Al Thakheera Municipalities, also announced festivities for Eid Al Adha that will be held at the Downtown Souq in Al Khor on June 7 and 8. Lebanese Army receives Qatar's financial grant
By QLNews • 24 May 2025 13:05 The Lebanese Army Command has received a financial grant from Qatar to support its military personnel amid the country's challenging circumstances. In April, Qatar had vowed to renew a $60m grant to pay the salaries of Lebanon's army and provide them with 162 military vehicles. The agreement had come during Lebanese President Joseph Aoun's first official visit to Doha. HH The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani had approved of the grant, a joint statement had said. The provisions were to enable Lebanon's army to 'carry out its national duties of maintaining stability and controlling the borders throughout Lebanese territory.' Aoun, who was elected in January after more than two years of caretaker government in Beirut, has been tasked with charting a course out of the country's worst economic crisis and reconstruction after all-out war between Israel and Hezbollah. Lebanese Army Commander General Rodolph Haykal expressed his gratitude to Qatar and its leadership for the generous initiative, stressing that it represents a vital show of support for his country's military institution and a relief in the face of current hardships.
