Al Gharafa beat Umm Salal 4-2 to book Amir Cup final berth
Tribune News Network Doha Al Gharafa booked their place in the Amir Cup final with a pulsating 4–2 win over Umm Salal in the semi-finals on Monday night at the Thani bin Jassim Stadium. Gharafa will face Al Rayyan in what promises to be a thrilling final on May 24 at the Khalifa International Stadium. In a dramatic first half, Umm Salal raced to a 2–0 lead through Othman al-Yahri and an own goal by Aron Gunnarsson. But Al Gharafa roared back before the break — former Real Madrid forward Joselu halved the deficit five minutes before halftime, before substitute Mohammed Muntari struck the equaliser. Moments later, Yacine Brahimi calmly converted a penalty to give Al Gharafa a 3–2 lead heading into the interval. Muntari added his second of the night in the second half to seal a memorable win for Al Gharafa, who will now face Al Rayyan in the final of the 53rd edition of Qatar's most prestigious tournament. QCB issues QR 2.9 billion in T bills amid robust investor interest
Tribune News Network Doha The Qatar Central Bank (QCB) successfully concluded its latest treasury bills auction on Thursday, allocating a total of QR2.9 billion against bids amounting to QR10 billion. The auction, which covered various tenors ranging from seven days to 336 days, attracted strong interest from financial institutions, reflecting robust confidence in the Qatari economy and the central bank's monetary instruments. According to QCB, the allocations were spread across seven different maturities. A new issuance of 7-day bills accounted for QR500 million at a yield of 4.610 percent. The highest yield of the auction, 4.618 percent, was offered on the 21-day bills, which were issued through a tap issuance mechanism and also amounted to QR500 million. The 84-day bills, likewise a tap issuance, attracted a yield of 4.556 percent with an allocation of QR500 million. For medium-term tenors, the central bank allocated QR500 million for 175-day bills at a yield of 4.367 percent through a tap issuance. Meanwhile, a new issuance of 273-day bills also garnered QR 500 million, yielding 4.265 percent. The longest tenor in the auction, the 336-day bills, saw a tap issuance of QR400 million at a yield of 4.237 percent—the lowest among all maturities. The yields across tenors suggest a mildly upward-sloping short-term yield curve, particularly in the early durations, followed by a gradual decline for longer maturities. This pattern indicates market expectations of stable or potentially easing interest rates over the coming months. The sizable demand—more than three times the allocated amount—demonstrates the attractiveness of QCB bills as a low-risk investment avenue and highlights the liquidity management needs of Qatari banks and financial institutions. The combination of new and tap issuances also reflects the central bank's agile approach to managing liquidity while supporting price discovery in the money market. QCB's continued issuance of bills at regular intervals plays a critical role in reinforcing monetary stability and anchoring short-term interest rates in line with its broader economic objectives. The success of this auction further underscores the central bank's credibility and the resilience of Qatar's financial system.

QSL announces special arrangements for Qatar Cup 2025 final
QSL Doha The Qatar Stars League (QSL) announced the arrangements and preparations for Qatar Cup 2025 final between Al Sadd and Al Duhail on Saturday at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium of Al Sadd club (kick-off 7pm). The announcement was made at a press conference held at QSL Headquarters, attended by Hassan Rabiah Al Kuwari, Executive Director of Sales, Marketing and Communication at QSL, and Ahmed Salman Al Adsani, Director of Competitions at QSL, in the presence of media representatives and Qatar Cup Ambassadors. Al Kuwari said, 'I welcome all attendees and congratulate both teams on qualifying for the final of The Glorious Cup to which we attach great importance in terms of preparations and arrangements, in co-operation and co-ordination with all stakeholders and partners, to ensure a distinguished performance at all levels. Tickets for the match went on sale on Monday, May 5, and are available only through QSL's official website A dedicated fan zone will be active two hours before kick-off and will feature related facilities and entertainment activities with the aim of providing a unique fan experience. Valuable prizes will also be available through a raffle, including a car as well as cash prizes totalling QR10,000 for each participant in the Golden Goal half-time activation. Al Kuwari extended his sincere thanks and appreciation to all sponsors, partners, stakeholders, media organisations, Host Broadcaster and Qatar Cup 2025 Ambassadors. Mr. Al Adsani said, 'We congratulate both teams on their participation in the Qatar Cup 2025 final.
