Iran Launches Missile Attack on US Base in Qatar

Iran launched a missile attack Monday on a US military base in Qatar, retaliating for the American bombing of its nuclear sites. Witnesses reported seeing missiles in the skies, followed by explosions. Iran announced on state television that it attacked American forces stationed at Qatar's Al Udeid Air Base. A caption on screen called it 'a mighty and successful response" to "America's aggression.' The attack came shortly after Qatar closed its airspace as a precaution amid threats from Iran. A statement by the Qatari Foreign Ministry said on X that the move comes to ensure safety of residents and visitors. "The competent authorities announce the temporary suspension of air traffic in the country's airspace, as part of a set of precautionary measures taken based on developments in the region," the Ministry said.

Qatar shuts down airspace to ensure safety, says government, after US attacks on Iran

Qatar said it has shut down airspace temporarily as part of measures taken amid developments in the region, a statement by the Qatari foreign ministry said on X. It said the move comes to ensure the safety of residents and visitors. Qatar hosts the largest United States base in the area. The shutdown comes as Iran repeated earlier threats to retaliate against the US after strikes on its nuclear sites on Sunday. Earlier, the US and UK governments told citizens based in Qatar to lie low after Iran vowed to retaliate against an American attack on its nuclear facilities. 'Out of an abundance of caution we recommend American citizens shelter in place until further notice,' the US embassy in Doha said in a statement on Monday.

Qatar shuts down airspace temporarily amid regional crisis

Qatar said it has shut down airspace temporarily as part of measures taken amid developments in the region, a statement by the Qatari foreign ministry said on X. It said the move comes to ensure safety of residents and visitors. The shutdown of Qatari airspace comes as Iran repeated earlier threats to retaliate against the United States after strikes on its nuclear sites. Qatar is home to the United States' largest base in the region. Earlier on Monday, the British government issued a warning recommending that UK citizens in Qatar shelter in place until further notice. The recommendation followed a similar warning the US government issued to its citizens in the Gulf state. Following the US warning in Doha, Qatar's foreign ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari said warnings by foreign embassies 'do not necessarily reflect the existence of specific or credible threats.' 'We would like to reassure the public that the security situation in the state remains stable,' he wrote on X. 'Qatar continues to exert intensive diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region.'
