This makes QLED and Neo QLED a strong contender in environments where brightness and versatility matter - such as bright living rooms or large-format installations. In contrast to OLED's self-lit pixels, which excel in low-light settings, Samsung's QLED range maintains its image fidelity across a broader range of lighting conditions. On contrast, Samsung highlights OLED's strength in producing "real blacks," but adds that Neo QLED should not be underestimated. "Thousands of Mini LEDs are precisely controlled by our advanced AI-powered processors to deliver deep blacks and higher brightness levels, that deliver incredible contrast ratios and a stunning picture no matter what." Samsung's 2025 QN900D Neo QLED 8K model, for instance, combines Quantum Dots with high-dynamic range brightness, allowing users to experience "spectacular detail in every shot… Whether it's gloomy shadows to sun-scorched scenes, the true-to-life colours make for a remarkable contrast." Beyond image quality, Samsung's QLED TVs are designed with gaming in mind. High refresh rates, low input lag, and advanced AI gaming features put QLED at the forefront of display tech for console and PC players. In addition, and a great way to enhance Samsung gaming credentials is the ability to play Xbox on the TV without the need for a console – via the new Xbox App. Many Samsung TVs now feature a 120Hz refresh rate or higher. "The faster the rate, the smoother things look, and the easier it is to pick out the finer details in fast-moving content," the company said. This is important for sport, or fast moving content, giving an incredible clear and crisp picture, and defined subjects. Input responsiveness is another strength: "OLED pixels can change incredibly fast… Likewise, the Quantum Dots in QLED TVs are able to respond super quickly, so both the latest Samsung OLED and QLED TVs are a great choice here." And with Game Mode enabled, "you'll find no issue with input lag." HDR brightness is particularly important for gaming in well-lit rooms - another area where Neo QLED leads. "Samsung Neo QLED has the advantage here," the company says, and "the QLED range comes with a 10 Year Screen Burn warranty*, which means you can play any content without the worry of burn in." Samsung also addresses a traditional shortcoming of LED-based displays: viewing angles. While OLED maintains quality at nearly any angle, Samsung's latest Neo QLED models come equipped with "Ultra Viewing Angle with Anti Reflection screen," designed to "absorb reflections… so you can enjoy your favourite shows on the screen from anywhere in the room." That blend of colour, clarity, responsiveness and durability positions Samsung QLED as a standout choice for premium consumers. Whether it's the 4K QN90D or the 8K QN900D, users gain access to the brand's most advanced picture processors, Pantone-validated colour accuracy, and AI-powered picture optimisation. This gives you the dense blacks and excellent colour response associated with OLED sets, without that tech's one drawback, a slight tendency toward image retention. Debates rage as to which is better - the answer is that it comes down to your own eyes and what you're happy with - but with a 55in 4K set like the Samsung QN85B available for £1,199 at the time of writing, there's a lot to be happy about. As with other brands, it's perfectly possible to spend a great deal of money on a Samsung, but if you simply must have the biggest TV, the 85in 8K QLED QN800A is worth a look, being half the price of similar models at £2,499.
