Former Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury named to NHL's Quarter Century team
Goalies were the last players named to the NHL's Quarter Century team, including a former Penguin! Marc-Andre Fleury, 40, who officially retired from the NHL after 21 seasons when the Minnesota Wild were eliminated from the first round of the playoffs, was among the six goalies voted onto the league's team recognizing the top 25 players of the last 25 years. He joins former teammates Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, who were named to the team on Friday. Advertisement Fleury, a three-time Stanley Cup Champion with the Penguins, played 1,051 regular-season games with a 575-339-97 record and 76 shutouts. He also played 170 playoff games, tallying 92 wins and 16 shutouts. The netminder also earned several individual awards throughout his storied career, including a Vezina Trophy and William M. Jennings Trophy. Fleury was drafted by the Penguins with the first overall pick in the 2003 NHL Draft and spent 13 years with the team. The club says he still holds most of its goaltending records, including games played, wins, and shutouts, for both the regular season and the playoffs. Players were named to the Quarter Century team through a two-stage campaign that included input from NHL officials and a fan vote. Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin named to NHL's Quarter Century team
Two beloved Pittsburgh Penguins forwards are being recognized as some of the top 25 NHL players over the last 25 years. Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin were named to the NHL Quarter Century team on Friday as part of a group of seven skaters who debuted between 2000-2010. Crosby, according to the Penguins, ranks at the top of every major regular-season category over the last quarter century, including games played (1,311, 14th), goals (602, 2nd), assists (1,035, 2nd), points (1,637, 1st), game-winning goals (93, 3rd) and overtime goals (22, 2nd). Advertisement The three-time Stanley Cup Champion and 26th member of the Triple Gold Club has won many awards throughout his career. Some of those honors include two Conn Smythe Trophies, two Art Ross Trophies, two Hart Memorial Trophies, two Maurice 'Rocket' Richard Trophies and one Mark Messier Leadership Award. The Penguin highlights Malkin, a three-time Stanley Cup Champion and one of the most accomplished Russian-born players, as a dominant force since his debut during the 2006-07 season. He's scored 514 goals, 832 assists and 1,346 points, which rank sixth, fifth and fourth, respectively, among all players since 2000. He has exceptional playoff production, as his 180 points are second only to Crosby in the last 25 years. Malkin is also highly awarded, with two Art Ross Trophies, one Hart Trophy, one Ted Lindsay Award, one Calder Trophy and one Conn Smythe Trophy. Some other iconic players named to the team so far include Alex Ovechkin, Patrice Bergeron, Pavel Datsyuk, Niklas Lidstrom and Joe Sakic. There are still 12 players yet to be announced. Mastering the art of comedy performance The program aims to empower participants to master the art of comedic performance and write funny scenes through interactive workshops supervised by the esteemed artist Marai Al-Halyan. Participants will learn how to transform everyday situations into humorous theatrical performances that carry meaningful messages. Intensive exercises in improvisation and playwriting Participants will also engage in intensive exercises in improvisation and comedic playwriting during the program, which will culminate in an interactive theatrical performance that allows them to test their skills in front of an audience. For ages 16 and above The program will take place at the Quarter Century Center for Theater and Performing Arts – City Center Al Zahia, from February 14 to 16, 2025, and February 21 to 23, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. It is available to members of the Quarter Century institutions, starting from the age of 16.
