Shaun the Sheep art trail arrives in Peterborough city centre
A flock of giant Shaun the Sheep statues has made its home in a city for the sculpture trail in Peterborough features 12 "supersized" Shauns, standing at about 1.6m (5ft 3in) high and painted by different Find the Flock trail featuring the iconic Aardman character, created in collaboration with events group Wild in Art, opened on Monday and will remain in place until 31 Stainton, head of marketing at Peterborough Cathedral, said: "This summer is all about reclaiming the city centre as a space for families to explore, play and connect." Boxing champion opens new Peterborough gym in Queensgate
A former world boxing champion has opened a new city boxing gym - in a shopping centre. Amir Khan opened the Amir Khan Boxing Academy in Queensgate Shopping Centre, in Peterborough, on academy was launched to try and help get young people off the streets and into the Olympic silver medallist, and two-time world champion, said: "I am sure when your kids go out you feel so scared, but at least you know at a boxing gym they are being looked after and being cared for." The academy was launched in partnership with the Top Yard School of Boxing, which is also based in on the upper floor of the shopping centre, the founders of the new gym are hoping to reach out and support more young people. Khan said: "Peterborough is a lovely place, I love coming here all the time."I want to start doing a lot more in this community. Boxing with everyone together - that is what we want."Khan previously met the owners of Top Yard School of Boxing whilst at a charity event hosted by the Amir Khan Foundation about nine years Javed has since been working with the boxing champion to try and create a space for the academy to grow. Mr Javed said: "They need somewhere to go and burn some energy so basically our gym is for that."We offer a lot of classes for the youth today."A spokesperson for Queensgate Shopping Centre said: "We are proud to support the Amir Khan Academy and everything it stands for."Queensgate is more than just a shopping destination - it is a community hub." Shopping centre unveils new idol made from recycled materials
A shopping centre has unveiled a new idol made from recycled materials. Queensgate Shopping Centre, in Peterborough, unveiled the Bengal Heritage Idol on Sunday, March 22, in collaboration with Heritage Bengal Global and Bengali Sanskriti Club Peterborough. The idol was created by students at a design school in Kolkata and will be on display for a month. Anameeka Ghossh, whose passion project brought this event to life, said: 'As we welcome Maa Durga to Queensgate, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Verity and Heritage Bengal Global for making this moment possible. "This idol is more than just a sculpture—it is a bridge between worlds, a celebration of our heritage, and a testament to the strength of community.
