Marseille, the runner-up to Paris Saint-Germain last season, failed to take advantage of the sending off of Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal following a challenge on Amir Murillo that sparked a VAR check. Adrien Rabiot and Murillo both hit shots against the post for Marseille at Roazhon Park and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang couldn't unlock Rennes' defense in the first match of his second spell with the visitors. PSG's first match of its title defense is at Nantes on Sunday. ___

Rennes interested in Marseille's Quentin Merlin
Stade Rennais may be in the market for a left-back. The Breton club have already sold Adrien Truffert to Premier League side Bournemouth. Their back-up, Mahamadou Nagida, is inexperienced. At just 20, he may be judged to be too inexperienced to inherit Truffert's role. A recruit could therefore be sought after during the current transfer window. L'Équipe understands that they are showing an interest in Olympique de Marseille left-back Quentin Merlin (23), who just had a convincing campaign away with the France U21 side at the Euros.
