Pakistan: Three coaches of Jaffer Express derail due to explosion; 1 injured
Peshawar, Jul 28 (PTI) Three coaches of the Quetta-bound Jaffer Express train derailed due to an explosion on Monday, leaving one injured in Pakistan's southeast Sindh province, officials said. While railway officials said that it may take up to another five hours to restore the track from rain traffic, the Sindh administration has ordered an investigation into the incident. Sukkur Railways Divisional Superintendent Jamshaid Alam said the Jaffar Express was travelling from Peshawar to Quetta when it got caught in an explosion near Shikarpur in Sindh Province. Rescue teams from Sukkur were immediately dispatched to start repair work. 'Following the blast, train operations have been suspended," Alam said, adding that passengers 'faced serious difficulties due to the derailment". This is not the first time the train has suffered such an incident. In June, the detonation of a remote-controlled explosive device fitted to rail tracks derailed four bogies of the Jaffar Express near the cattle market in Jacobabad. No one was injured in the incident, but the attack was reportedly claimed by the banned Baloch Republican Guards in a statement. On March 11, the train became the target of an unprecedented hijacking when terrorists fired on the locomotive and took over 400 passengers hostage. Explosion damages coach of Quetta-bound train in Pakistans Balochistan province
Last Updated: Peshawar, Jul 24 (PTI) A coach of a Quetta-bound passenger train was partially damaged in an explosion on Thursday in Balochistan province of Pakistan, the third such attack since March. No passenger was harmed due to the explosion, railway officials said. 'Railway track between Bakhtiarabad and Damboli areas in Sibi district of the province was blown up with explosives, resulting in the Bolan Mail heading from Karachi to Quetta being hit," station master Murtaza Khan told reporters in Sibi and termed it as an act of terrorism. Coach No 7 of the train was 'partially damaged" in the incident, he said, adding, the train reached the Sibi railway station safely. Train operations have been suspended in the area in the aftermath of the blast even as the security forces have cordoned off the site, and a railway technical team has been dispatched to the scene. Train services will be resumed once the track has been cleared and declared safe, railway officials added. Following the incident, the Jaffer Express that had started from Punjab was halted at Dera Murad Jamali, while an earlier day Jaffer Express nearer to Quetta was stopped at Sibi station, officials confirmed. Over the past few years, Balochistan has seen a series of terror incidents where train tracks are blown up, targetting the province's transport infrastructure. Earlier, the Peshawar-bound Jaffar Express, travelling from Quetta to Peshawar and carrying 440 passengers, was hijacked near Balochistan's Sibi area on March 11, resulting in the deaths of 21 passengers and four security personnel. 'All 33 terrorists" were neutralised during the two-day clearance operation. Train services between Quetta and the rest of the country were restored on March 27. Bomb blast derails Jaffar Express in Pakistan's Sindh; no casualties reported
NEW DELHI: Six coaches of the Jaffar Express were derailed on Wednesday after a bomb exploded near a railway track in Pakistan's Jacobabad district in Sindh province, which borders restive Balochistan. No casualties have been reported so far. The blast occurred near a cattle market in Jacobabad, causing six bogies of the Quetta-bound train to go off the rails. Police and paramilitary forces rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area. Authorities said an investigation is underway to determine the nature of the explosion and identify those responsible. Train operations on the route have been suspended temporarily. This is the second time the Jaffar Express has been targeted in recent months. In March, it was attacked in the Bolan district of Balochistan while travelling from Quetta to Peshawar. The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) had claimed responsibility for that incident and briefly hijacked the train before a military rescue operation was launched. No group has claimed responsibility for Wednesday's blast so far.
