SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Drivers who regularly commute on eastbound State Route 52 between Interstate 805 and State Route 163 may be impacted by roadwork happening this weekend. Starting Friday at 9 p.m., Caltrans crews will close all lanes of that specific portion of eastbound SR-52 for construction. Chula Vista police cracking down on people not wearing seat belts The closure, which will occur between the hours of 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., is expected to last nightly until Monday, May 19 at 5 a.m. Detours are available for people traveling in the area. Drivers may continue south on I-805 to the eastbound Interstate 8 connector ramp, continue driving east on I-8 and then travel north on Interstate 15 to the SR-52 east and westbound connector ramps. Alternatively, they can take the detour from southbound I-805 to the southbound SR-163 connector ramp and drive to the Genesee Avenue off-ramp. From there, turn left onto northbound SR-163 and continue driving toward the SR-52 east and westbound connector ramps. Residents and business owners may experience construction noise and bright lighting during these times, Caltrans stated. Real-time updates are available on the QuickMap on Caltrans' website. The work schedule could change depending on weather, traffic and other factors. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Caltrans advises drivers of lane closures on SR-52 for road work
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — This week, drivers heading on State Route 52 should expect travel disruptions as Caltrans plans to close lanes in both directions of the highway for road work. The closure for maintenance will begin Monday, April 7 at 8 p.m. and continue until 5 a.m. on Thursday, April 10, the agency said in a post on X, formerly Twitter. During this time, the No. 3 lane both ways will be blocked from Spring Canyon Road UC to Mast Boulevard for work on the roadway's culverts. It is the same stretch of SR-52 that underwent a closure for culvert repairs just last week, reopening in the early hours of Thursday, April 3. See real-time road conditions on our Live Traffic Map Caltrans has another major closure planned for the roadway once the No. 3 lane reopens that will impact all westbound lanes. Starting on Friday, April 11, the road will be blocked off from the Interstate 805 connector to State Route 163. The second closure is expected to carry into next week, with its planned lifting on Monday, April 14 at 5 a.m. In the meantime, Caltrans says it will divert drivers to alternative routes on Interstate 8, SR-163 and I-805 to get around the roadwork. The agency notes both construction periods are subject to change due to weather, traffic conditions or other unforeseen factors that may prevent crews from safely working. Westbound SR-52 to close for road work: this is when
Video above: This FOX 5/KUSI video provides driving safety tips. SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Drivers heading west on State Route 52 (SR-52) should plan ahead for a full closure of the highway from Friday, April 11 at 9 p.m. through Monday, April 14 at 5 a.m. as Caltrans contractors conduct roadwork. The closure will impact all lanes of westbound SR-52 between State Route 163 (SR-163) and Interstate 805 (I-805). As explained in a recent Caltrans press release, motorists traveling westbound will be diverted through a series of alternative routes. They will have the option to take the connector to southbound Interstate 15 (I-15) to westbound Interstate 8 (I-8), then to northbound I-805 and then re-enter SR-52 via the connectors. Those continuing west past I-15 will be directed onto southbound SR-163. Pedestrian standing in roadway hit, killed by vehicle in North County San Diego police share details of vehicle involved in deadly hit-and-run To ensure drivers are informed, message signs will be placed along key routes leading to SR-52, advising of the closure and recommending alternate paths. Residents and business owners in the surrounding area should be prepared for potential construction noise and lighting during the overnight work hours, Caltrans officials warned. As always, the work schedule is subject to change due to weather, traffic conditions or other unforeseen construction factors. For real-time traffic updates, including traffic speed, lane closures and roadwork details, drivers are encouraged to visit Caltran's QuickMap. Highway 140 to Yosemite National Park reopening after rockslide, Caltrans says
The main road to Yosemite National Park is scheduled to reopen Wednesday, just in time for the long holiday weekend, Caltrans officials announced. The two-mile stretch of Highway 140 closed after rain caused rocks to slide onto the road but will reopen about 4 p.m. under one-way traffic control, officials said. Unseasonably warm weather gave Caltrans and private contractors enough time to clear the road after recent storms in time for park visitors during the long Cesar Chavez holiday weekend. Brian Hooker, public informant officer for Caltrans, stated the importance of the road to the local economy during its busy early spring season. 'It's one of the busiest weekends ... but it's important to support the local businesses," said Hooker. Though the road is opened, crews will have to intermittently pause drivers while they repave and make other repairs from the recent damage, Hooker said. About a two-mile stretch of the highway — the main road to the park — between Briceburg and El Portal was closed last week after wet weather caused rocks to fall onto the road in a narrow canyon. In the last few weeks, California has been hit with repeated storms that have dumped feet of snow in the mountains and created debris flows and rock slides on highways across the state. The Yosemite Valley recorded 7.38 inches of rain during the recent storms, while El Portal recorded 6.48 inches, according to the National Weather Service. Though the road is reopened, Caltrans recommends park visitors follow live updates on its QuickMap app. Sign up for Essential California for news, features and recommendations from the L.A.
