Fact Check: Posts claim Green Bay Packers rejected ad for Musk's Tesla electric vehicles at Lambeau Field. Here are the facts

Claim: The Green Bay Packers rejected an ad for tech billionaire Elon Musk's Tesla electric vehicles at Lambeau Field. Rating: A rumor that circulated online in May 2025 claimed the Green Bay Packers rejected an advertisement for Tesla CEO Elon Musk's electric-vehicle company at the team's historic Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Snopes received email from readers asking about the rumor. One reader inquired, "Is the claim that the Packers rejected a Tesla ad the truth?" Another reader asked, "Is there any validity to the claim that the Green Bay Packers rejected Elon Musk's Tesla ad at Lambeau Field?" On May 11, a Facebook page named Green and Gold Legacy posted (archived), "HOLY S***: Green Bay Packers Reject Elon Musk's Tesla Ad at Lambeau Field! Packers Give Elon Musk a Very Good Reason for Rejection…" (Green and Gold Legacy/Facebook) That post and several others each included page manager comments that linked to articles hosted on generic-looking WordPress blogs. For instance, the Green and Gold Legacy page displayed a link to an article on the blog The story reported the Packers supposedly rejected the offer because they believed "associating with Tesla at Lambeau Field did not align with their core values or the expectations of their deeply loyal fanbase." The article also cited the Packers' alleged concerns about the safety of Tesla vehicles. However, searches of Bing, DuckDuckGo and Google found no news media outlets reporting on this matter. Rather, the story of the Packers rejecting a Tesla ad — or being offered the chance to promote any such ad in the first place — was false. A representative for the Packers communications team had not yet responded to a request for comment by publication time. Much like the posts promoting the false claim about the Packers, posts from similar Facebook pages claimed other NFL teams also rejected Musk's Tesla ad, including the Buffalo Bills, Minnesota Vikings, San Francisco 49ers, Detroit Lions, Denver Broncos and Dallas Cowboys. Additionally, Facebook pages promoted the rumor about rejecting Musk's ad for leagues other than the NFL, including the NHL's Winnipeg Jets, MLB's Detroit Tigers and NCAA college football's Ohio State Buckeyes. In other words, the people promoting such rumors simply created posts for numerous teams to increase their chances of one of the posts taking off and virally spreading. The posts promoting the rumor each included a link in the first comment leading to an article on an ad-filled blog. Scans of the article with the artificial intelligence-detection websites Copyleaks, QuillBot and ZeroGPT concluded it was extremely likely that someone generated the text using one or more AI tools. People in countries outside the U.S. target Americans with false rumors such as these with the goal of making money, specifically seeking to earn advertising revenue from the generic-looking WordPress blogs that host the articles featured in the Facebook comments. For example, the page transparency tab for the Green and Gold Legacy Facebook page lists its manager as residing in Vietnam, and the website displays numerous ads in several different placements on its pages. The Facebook page managers possibly also seek to build up their social media follower count with the promotion of inauthentic content in order to one day sell the pages for additional revenue. For further reading, a previous fact check examined another false rumor originating from the same kind of inauthentic sports-focused Facebook pages alleging the NBA, NCAA, NFL, NHL or other organizations fired referees for bribery or other misconduct. 5 Ready-To-Use ChatGPT Prompts That Save Students Hours Every Week

Today's teens aren't just students — they're multitasking machines, balancing school, sports, part-time jobs, and college prep. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, high schoolers spend an average of 6.8 hours per week on homework, with some reporting nearly two hours per night. Research shows that consistently exceeding two hours of homework can increase stress and harm well-being, making efficiency desirable and necessary. When balancing demanding schedules with jobs, sports, and college prep, students turn to AI homework assistant tools—not for shortcuts but for smarter studying strategies. When used ethically, ChatGPT serves as a virtual study partner, not a content generator. These artificial intelligence study aids should help students understand concepts better, organize their thoughts clearly, and manage time effectively. The final work must remain the student's original creation, with AI-powered learning tools serving only as a thinking aid, not as an author. However, students must know how to ask better questions to unlock their full potential. Here are five ready-to-use AI study prompts that can help students save hours every week. When using these prompts with class materials, please make sure you are not violating copyright laws. Only use the content you are permitted to share or that's your original work. Excerpts from textbooks, published articles, or other protected materials should not be pasted into ChatGPT academic support tools without authorization. 'I need help creating a structured study guide from my class notes. Here's my content: [paste your notes] When students organize notes this way, they're not just cutting study time but improving retention. Students using AI homework assistance tools like TurboLearn AI to convert lecture notes into digestible study materials cut their study time by 30% compared to manual organization. The platform transforms dense academic content into podcasts and practice assessments, helping students grasp complex topics more efficiently. 'I need specific feedback on this draft essay. Here's my document: [paste your draft] AI homework helper tools like QuillBot assist students by paraphrasing complex academic language into clearer terms, while Grammarly's AI suggestions appear automatically as students write. These student productivity tools help maintain academic standards while improving clarity and flow. While AI can provide feedback on writing, all final work must be your own. AI should not generate content that you then submit as your own work. Use these suggestions to improve your writing skills, not to replace them. 'I need help understanding this challenging concept. Here's what I'm studying: [paste concept/theory]. My goal is to master this topic for [specific application]. Please review this with the following in mind: 1) Can you explain this using everyday analogies? 2) What real-world examples illustrate this concept effectively? 3) What misconceptions should I avoid? Give me actionable explanations with concrete examples. Create 3-5 questions to test my understanding and explain your reasoning for each.' Research by Lucas Keefer and Mark Landau found that using analogies, such as comparing familiar objects like a pool cue and pool ball to unfamiliar concepts like a neutron and emission source, significantly improved students' understanding of nuclear fission by helping them mentally map the relationships between key elements. This shows why asking ChatGPT for analogies isn't just a shortcut — it's a powerful learning tool that helps students connect new ideas to what they already know, deepening comprehension and retention. 'I need help planning this major project. Here's my assignment: [paste project details and deadline]. My goal is to complete this efficiently without last-minute stress. Please review this with the following in mind: 1) Does the timeline include all essential steps (research, drafting, revisions)? 2) Are the time estimates realistic for each component? 3) Is there adequate buffer time for unexpected delays? Give me actionable scheduling recommendations with daily/weekly breakdowns. Explain your reasoning for each time allocation.' Data shows that students working part-time spend about 20 minutes less per day on homework than their non-working peers. Platforms like Motion and help automate schedules, but ChatGPT can tailor plans to the student's specific workload and learning style. 'I need help preparing discussion questions for my reading. Here's my text: [paste relevant excerpts]. My goal is to lead a meaningful class discussion/study group. Please review this with the following in mind: 1) Do the questions promote critical thinking beyond basic comprehension? 2) Are there connections to current events or real-world applications? 3) Is there a mix of question types (analytical, evaluative, creative)? Give me actionable question formats with examples. Explain your reasoning for each type.' Recent Pew Research shows that 26% of American teenagers now use AI tools for schoolwork, double the percentage from 2023. This reflects a growing acceptance of AI as a legitimate study aid when used properly. As more students adopt these academic AI tools, the leaders will be those who use them to ask better questions, not just find faster answers. Using AI ethically means treating these tools as study aids rather than replacements for learning. Always verify AI-generated content through reliable academic sources, cite AI assistance when your institution requires it, and use outputs as thinking aids, not final submissions. Students develop stronger academic skills when using AI to enhance understanding rather than bypass critical thinking. The most effective students don't just use these tools—they adapt them to their learning style. Most students currently spend about an hour or more nightly on homework, yet many feel this could be reduced to maintain a better balance. These ChatGPT homework prompts represent just the beginning of how AI can improve academic performance while maintaining the integrity of education, helping students find that sweet spot between efficiency and understanding. The future of education isn't about bypassing learning—it's about enhancing it. When used transparently and in compliance with school policies, AI tools can help students develop stronger thinking skills while maintaining academic integrity.

Rumor claims Musk donated $800K to help storm victims repair their homes. Here's what we know

A rumor Facebook users circulated in March and April 2025 claimed tech billionaire Elon Musk, an adviser to U.S. President Donald Trump, donated $800,000 to help storm victims repair their homes. Users shared and discussed this rumor as tornadoes and violent winds struck the Midwest and South in early April, while millions of people remained under severe weather advisories for potential record-setting rain and life-threatening flash floods. For example, on March 30, the manager of a popular Facebook profile named Sense posted (archived), in part, "Elon Musk Donates $800,000 to Help Residents Repair Homes After Storms, Supporting Community Recovery." The post featured a link leading to an article on a WordPress blog simply named, "My WordPress Blog." Other Facebook users also shared the same rumor with posts including links to the same article published on other websites. The image read, "Elon Musk Gifts $800,000 to Help Residents Repair Homes After Storms." (Sense/Facebook) However, we uncovered no evidence suggesting Musk — recently or in the past — donated the specific amount of $800,000 to storm victims. Searches of Musk's X feed, Bing, DuckDuckGo, Google and Yahoo produced no credible results helping to confirm the rumor. At the same time, Musk's companies and his foundation have made contributions to storm victims, as detailed later in this article. The in-question WordPress blog article displayed signs of being generated with an artificial-intelligence tool, according to scans with the AI-detection websites Copyleaks, GPTZero, QuillBot and Scribbr. Someone also created the above post's image with an AI tool. One of several signs of an AI-generated picture is extra fingers on a subject's hand; Musk's left hand displayed six fingers. The article featured no information about when or where Musk made the purported $800,000 donation, nor did the story's author specify the people who benefitted from the contribution. The owner or owners of the websites hosting the article, which displayed numerous ads earning them revenue, sought to seize on and validate the beliefs of conservative U.S. users. For example, the aforementioned Facebook account featured a page transparency tab identifying its manager as residing in North Macedonia — a country associated with disinformation efforts in the 2016 and 2020 U.S. presidential elections. Other Facebook posts promoted similar made-up rumors potentially featuring AI-generated elements, including for example "Elon Musk's $300M Stunner: Homes for the Needy!," "Elon Musk's Ultimate Generosity: $55 Million to Build Homes for the Poor!" and "Elon Musk's Secret Plan: $5 Billion to Build Homes for Hurricane Victims!" Representatives for SpaceX, Tesla and the White House did not yet respond to requests for comment about this matter, specifically asking whether Musk donated $800,000 to storm victims. A manager of the Sense Facebook profile did not answer questions about the purpose of their efforts. There are genuine stories of Musk's generosity to storm victims and other causes. On Oct. 7, 2024, the New Orleans-based nonprofit disaster recovery organization SBP reported receiving (archived) a $2.4 million grant from Musk's Musk Foundation to aid storm victims following Hurricane Helene. The genuine $2.4 million donation was triple the $800,000 figure from the made-up story. Following a volcanic eruption and tsunami in Tonga in January 2022, Musk's SpaceX, a company for which he serves as CEO, helped restore (archived) some of the island nation's internet services. Also, on Oct. 26, 2017, the World Economic Forum reported about Musk's efforts involving Tesla, where he also serves as CEO, contributing (archived) its Powerwall battery storage technology to bring electricity back to Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria in September 2017. Inside Philanthrophy (archived) published details of other Musk Foundation contributions, including $5 million to COVID-19 vaccine research and diagnostic tools, $50 million to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and $480,000 for water in Flint, Michigan. Even so, The New York Times reported in December 2024 that the foundation failed to meet a standard of donating at least 5% of its assets for three consecutive years. The Musk Foundation and SBP did not yet respond to requests for comment, in particular asking the foundation about its contributions to storm victims and asking SBP for more details about the $2.4 million grant. Fact Check: Rumor Musk announced MSNBC acquisition for $900M is false

Claim: Tech billionaire Elon Musk announced he acquired MSNBC for $900 million to put an end to "toxic programming." Rating: A rumor that users circulated online in March 2025 claimed tech billionaire Elon Musk announced he acquired the MSNBC cable news network for $900 million. Musk, an adviser to Republican U.S. President Donald Trump, purportedly purchased the cable news network — one that has historically leaned left and favored political viewpoints aligned with the Democratic Party — with the stated goal of ending its "toxic programming." For example, on March 22, the manager of a Facebook page posted, "7 MINUTES AGO: Elon Musk announced that he has acquired MSNBC for $900 million to put an end to toxic programming." The post featured an image of Musk with the words "GAME OVER!," showing him holding paper reading, "Contract signed with MSNBC." Under the post, a page manager linked to an article displaying the same text as the post in its headline and claiming Musk posted about the acquisition on his social media platform, X. Numerous other users also shared the same claim about a $900 million purchase of MSNBC as far back as Jan. 13 on Bluesky, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, TikTok and X. However, Musk did not announce an acquisition of MSNBC on X or any other medium. Had he posted such an announcement, credible news media outlets around the world would have reported it as a major development. No such articles existed, according to searches of Bing, DuckDuckGo, Google and Yahoo. The users who promoted the claim were sharing a false rumor. The article shared in the Facebook post's comment contained text resembling that of past stories judged to have been generated using artificial intelligence (AI). The AI-detection websites CopyLeaks, GPTZero and QuillBot all determined someone likely generated at least a majority of the text with AI. (Such websites do not offer absolute conclusions but instead provide data points in determining likelihoods of generative AI content.) The fact-checking websites Check Your Fact and Lead Stories also reported the rumor as false. Further, as ProPublica reported in February about a different post containing the same rumor and similar (or the same) imagery, someone used an AI tool to generate the purported photo of Musk holding the MSNBC contract. A user managing the Rediscovery YouTube channel previously featured the same picture as the thumbnail image in a Dec. 8, 2024, video (archived) titled, "7 MINUTES AGO: Elon Musk JUST Bought MSNBC." The video did not feature any mention of $900 million but did include AI-generated elements, as noted in a label applied by a person managing the channel. The channel's description did not feature any disclaimers about publishing satire, parody or any other types of fictional content. While Musk did not purchase MSNBC, he had, however, posted about the news network before. For example, in October 2024, he called the network "utter scum of the Earth." Following Trump's reelection victory, he said, "Now MSNBC is going down." He also remarked on an article published by the satirical website Babylon Bee, reading, "Musk Announces Plan To Buy MSNBC And Turn It Into A News Network." Musk said of the satirical story, "Crazy idea, but it just might work!" adding a laughing emoji. The possibility remained that the rumor about Musk purchasing MSNBC for $900 million originated from the satirical story. Either way, again, the matter contained no truth. A previous Snopes fact check examined a similar, yet slightly different, rumor from December 2024 also about Musk's purported aspirations to buy MSNBC. "AI Detector."
