MP R. Krishnaiah Accuses Congress of Betrayal on BC Reservation Promises

Hyderabad: Member of Parliament and BJP leader R. Krishnaiah made strong accusations against the ruling Congress government. He alleged that the government had deliberately neglected the welfare of the Backwards Classes (BC) despite its commitments made in the Kamareddy BC Declaration. Addressing the media on Friday, Krishnaiah criticised the Congress for failing to implement the promised 42% BC reservation. He claimed that the party was shifting responsibility by blaming the central government and the BJP. He pointed out that under Constitutional Amendments 73 and 74, specifically Clause 243D(6), state governments have the authority to decide local body reservations, which means the current Congress-led government could act immediately. He further alleged that the Congress was falsely claiming that the BJP had blocked the reservation bill, despite the BJP's declared support for also mentioned that no Government Order (GO) has been issued, even after the Assembly approved the measure. According to Krishnaiah, reservations should be based on caste professions rather than religion; he argued that including Muslims undermines the genuine representation of BC communities. Krishnaiah referenced past injustices, such as the diversion of 4% central BC reservation to Muslims under the UPA government, and condemned religious-based quotas. He cited Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's views, emphasising that reservations should specifically address caste-based discrimination. He commended the Modi government for conducting a national caste census, granting constitutional status to the National BC Commission, and launching initiatives like the PM Vishwakarma Yojana to support caste professions. He also criticised Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for questioning the Prime Minister's identity concerning BC interests. Krishnaiah called on all BC leaders and groups to participate in a Mahadharna at Indira Park on August 2, demanding the implementation of the Kamareddy Declaration and exposing what he claimed were Congress's double standards. Krishnaiah stated that the Congress government lacks sincerity and transparency, asserting that only the BJP is genuinely committed to the empowerment of Backwards Classes.

CM assures BC leaders of ‘historic BC reservations' issue overcoming all challenges

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy assured the Backward Classes leaders that the government would be extremely cautious and nullify all efforts to push the 42% reservations to BCs into legal wrangles, and also urged them to keep a watch on such elements. The CM's advice came when leaders of various Backward Class (BC) associations, led by National BC Welfare Association President R. Krishnaiah, met with the Chief Minister on Friday to express their gratitude for the Telangana Cabinet's landmark decision to provide 42% reservations for BCs in local body elections. The delegation, which included Telangana Mineral Development Corporation Chairman Eravatri Anil and several other BC association leaders, lauded the Congress government's historic move, calling it a major step toward ensuring social justice and political empowerment of BC communities in the State. During the meeting, Mr. Revanth Reddy assured the leaders that the reservation policy had been framed after a scientific and data-driven study and constituted a Dedicated Commission, in line with the Supreme Court guidelines. He expressed confidence that the reservation would withstand any legal scrutiny. 'Even if the decision is challenged in court, the government is prepared to engage the best legal experts to defend it,' the Chief Minister said. Mr. R. Krishnaiah suggested that caveats be filed in both the High Court and the Supreme Court to pre-empt any stay orders and protect the government's move from being stalled through legal hurdles. He said the BC associations will not spare the political parties that would try to undermine the decision to blame the government or for their political advantage. The CM also cautioned the BC leaders to stay vigilant, pointing out that some political parties or individuals linked to them might attempt to undermine the Congress government's efforts by challenging the policy in the courts. Mr. Krishnaiah, after the one-hour meeting with the CM, told The Hindu that the BC communities were confident that the reservations would be a reality as the government had done the survey scientifically and also passed a Bill in the Assembly.

Don't issue threats to Congress, ask PM to include BC reservations in 9th Schedule: Congress to Krishnaiah

Hyderabad Former MLA and Chairman of the Mineral Development Corporation Eravthri Anil questioned the 'threats issued to the Congress' on the BC reservations by BJP Rajya Sabha member R. Krishnaiah, and alleged that the latter had become a BJP spokesperson than being a representative of the Backward Classes. Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Mr. Anil said that Mr. Krishnaiah should be staging protests outside the BJP office, not Gandhi Bhavan, if he truly cared about the rights and welfare of BCs. 'If R. Krishnaiah continues to attack the Congress government, people will begin to see him as a traitor to the BC cause, as it is the Congress party and Rahul Gandhi, who were responsible for the nationwide caste census,' he said. 'Are you opposing a government that has already taken the lead by setting up a dedicated commission and conducting a caste census survey based on the triple test formula?', he asked, and advised that if the BJP MP was sincere about BC welfare, he should demand Prime Minister Narendra Modi to include the BC reservation bill in the 9th Schedule of the Constitution.
