Aamir Khan reveals he rejected Rs 125 crore OTT deal for Sitaare Zameen Par due to…
Aamir Khan's latest film, 'Sitaare Zameen Par,' has taken an unconventional route by premiering on YouTube's pay-per-view platform, bypassing traditional OTT services. What did Aamir Khan say about rejecting the OTT deal? In an interview with PTI, Aamir Khan has finally revealed why he rejected the staggering deal of Rs 125 crore for his blockbuster film. He said, 'I do not want those 125 crores, I want 100 rupees from my audience. I do not want 125 crores from any big company. I have faith in my audience, in my work. What is the storyline of Sitaare Zameen Par? The film, directed by R.S. Prasanna, is a Hindi adaptation of the Spanish sports dramedy Champions. It follows the story of a hot-headed basketball coach, portrayed by Aamir Khan, who, after a DUI offense, is sentenced to community service coaching a team of neurodivergent adults. Initially reluctant, he gradually forms a bond with the team, leading to personal growth and transformation. How was the box office reception? With this, the film has comfortably overtaken Thugs of Hindostan (Rs 145.55 crore), Ghajini (Rs 114 crore), and Talaash (Rs 93.61 crore) in Aamir Khan's career tally. It now trails behind only 3 Idiots (Rs 202.47 crore), Dhoom 3 (Rs 271.07 crore), PK (Rs 340.8 crore), and Dangal (Rs 374.43 crore)—all massive blockbusters with wide appeal and multi-week dominance. Sitaare Zameen Par marks a significant comeback for Aamir after the underwhelming performance of Laal Singh Chaddha (Rs 61.12 crore). It has not only reinstated his box office credibility but also reaffirmed his strong connect with family audiences, thanks to the film's emotional themes, inclusive narrative, and child-centric story. While it may not reach the heights of Dangal or PK, its entry into the top five is a clear testament to the power of content-driven cinema when backed by a trusted name like Aamir Khan. With limited competition in the coming days, Sitaare Zameen Par is expected to continue its steady run and possibly close its lifetime business above Rs 160 crore.
