Goodwood drug bust nets R54. 3 million worth of Tik and heroin

The Western Cape police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie, said the bust comes after an intelligence-driven operation in the area. 'At approximately 1.45pm, members attached to Operation Restore operationalised information which led them to a residence situated at Molteno Street in Goodwood where they initiated a search of the premises. Image: SAPS A 32-year-old Tanzanian national who was an occupant of the room was arrested and charged for dealing in heroin with an estimated street value go about R1 million. As police officers extended the search to another bedroom, they found more heroin. 'Officers found 100 grams of heroin with an estimated value of R16,000. This led to the arrest of a 28-year-old Burundi national for the possession of drugs,' Pojie said. He said the officers continued to search the home and came across more contraband. 'The members expanded the search, leading to the discovery of 145kg of tik and 16kg of heroin found in the roof of the residence. The estimated street value is R53.3 million, bringing the total value of the discovery to R54.3million,' Pojie said. He said the investigation in this matter is being conducted by the narcotics section located within the Provincial Organised Crime Unit detectives. Western Cape Police Commissioner Lieutenant General (Adv) Thembisile Patekile welcomed the arrests and praised the members for their efforts to rid the streets of the scourge of drug abuse and trafficking. Police arrest four suspects, dagga worth R1.8m seized at toll plaza
Two suspects were arrested for bribery. The South African Police Services (Saps) have arrested two suspects with dagga estimated at the street value of about R1.8 million in Mpumalanga. Members from Middelburg Flying Squad, Middelburg K9 Unit and Provincial Counter-Intelligence acted on Intelligence information and handcuffed the suspects, aged 39, at the Middelburg Toll Plaza on Tuesday at about 5:30 pm. Bust Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane said two other suspects were arrested for bribery. 'According to a report, members responded swiftly after receiving information through the Intelligence Structure of the Saps about two Toyota GD-6 Double Cab bakkies alleged to be transporting a large consignment of dagga. 'As the information was operationalised, it resulted in the interception of one bakkie. Upon searching the bakkie, the astute members found 15 bags of dagga, weighing about 307 kg,' Ndubane said. 'The two foreign nationals from Lesotho are said to have offered a bribe of R 13 000 to the officers. In exchange, the two suspects were to be released with their consignment of dagga. Members never wasted time but apprehended them and charged them for bribery'. Ndubane said the suspects are expected to appear at Emalahleni Magistrate's Court on Thursday. Arrests welcomed The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the Saps in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, commended the members for their unwavering dedication and for the arrests made. 'Though members were offered cash to look away but they remained committed to the Saps Code of Conduct. The members extended the search to another bedroom where they found 100 grams of heroin which led to the arrest of a 28-year-old Burundi national for the possession of drugs. While processing the suspects, the members received further information of more drugs hidden at the residence. The members expanded the search, leading to the discovery of 145kg of tik and 16kg of heroin found in the roof of the residence. The estimated street value is R53.3 million, bringing the total value of the discovery to R54.3 million. The provincial commissioner of the Western Cape, Lt Gen (Adv.) Thembisile Patekile, praised the members for their dedication in efforts to rid the Western Cape streets of the scourge of drug abuse and trafficking. Tanzanian man and Burundian man arrested in R54.3m drug bust
Some of the drugs were found hidden in the roof of the raided house. Two foreign nationals are facing drug trafficking charges following a major intelligence-led operation in Goodwood that resulted in the seizure of narcotics worth R54.3 million on Sunday afternoon. Members of Operation Restore executed a search warrant at a residence on Molteno Street at approximately 13:45 on Sunday,13 July 2025, leading to the discovery of substantial quantities of heroin and crystal methamphetamine, also known as Tik, hidden throughout the property. Initial drug discovery leads to arrests The operation began when officers searched the premises and made their first significant find in a bedroom cupboard. 'During the search, the members discovered and seized 6kg of heroin, which was found in a cupboard in one of the rooms,' said Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie. Pojie said the occupant of the room, a 32-year-old Tanzanian national, was immediately arrested and charged with dealing in heroin. The seized drugs carried an estimated street value of almost R1 million. Officers then expanded their search to another bedroom, where they uncovered an additional 100 grams of heroin valued at approximately R16 000. 'The member extended the search to another bedroom where they found 100 grams of heroin with an estimated value of about R16 000.00, which led to the arrest of a 28-year-old Burundi national for the possession of drugs,' said Pojie. 'The members expanded the search, leading to the discovery of 145kg of Tik and 16kg of heroin found in the roof of the residence,' Pojie stated. This substantial cache significantly increased the total value of the seizure. 'The estimated street value is R53,3 million, bringing the total value of the discovery to R54.3million,' Pojie stated. The investigation is being conducted by the Narcotics Section, which operates within the provincial Organised Crime Unit detectives, Pojie confirmed.
