IndiGo passenger slaps fellow traveller onboard Mumbai-Kolkata flight

New Delhi, Aug 1 (PTI) An IndiGo passenger slapped a fellow passenger, who was on the aircraft aisle, onboard a flight from Mumbai to Kolkata on Friday, according to a source. The incident happened in the flight 6E138 and after landing, the perpetrator was handed over to the security team at the Kolkata airport, the source said. The perpetrator was also declared as unruly by the airline, the source added. There was no official statement from IndiGo. The number of people onboard the aircraft was not immediately available. The reason for the passenger slapping the fellow passenger was also not immediately known. A video clip of the incident shared on social media showed a passenger sitting in his seat suddenly slapping another passenger on the aisle who started crying and was moved away from the spot. Also, a cabin crew member is heard telling the passenger on the seat 'don't do" while another passenger is heard asking why did he slap and that he does not have any right to hit anybody. One of the passengers is also heard saying that the person who was hit was having a panic attack. It could not be immediately ascertained whether the incident happened when the aircraft was preparing for takeoff or when it was mid-air. The flight was operated with an Airbus A321 aircraft. Singapore Airlines quarterly profit falls 59 pc on AI losses, other factors

New Delhi, Jul 28 (PTI) Singapore Airlines Group's profit declined nearly 59 per cent to 186 million Singapore dollars in the June quarter as losses of Air India and other associated companies, along with lower interest income, trimmed its bottom line. Singapore Airlines, which holds a 25.1 per cent stake in loss-making Air India, saw its total revenue rise 1.5 per cent to SGD 4.79 billion, whereas net profit dropped 58.8 per cent to SGD 186 million in the June quarter compared to the year-ago period. In addition to the lower operating profit, the reduction in net profit was largely attributable to a lower interest income on the back of lower cash balances and interest rate cuts, the airline said in a statement on Monday. The group also recorded 'a share of losses of associated companies compared to a share of profits for the same quarter last year (-SGD 122 million), notably from Air India's financial results, which were not part of the Group's results for the same quarter last year", it said. Singapore Airlines Group started equity accounting for Air India's financial performance from December 2024, following the full integration of Vistara into Air India. According to the statement, the demand for air travel remains healthy in the second quarter of FY2025-26 across most route regions due to the traditional summer peak. 'However, the global airline industry continues to face a volatile operating environment, with challenges ranging from geopolitical developments and macroeconomic fluctuations to changing market dynamics and supply chain constraints. The Group will be agile and proactive in responding to changes in demand patterns," the statement said. Air India has been facing various headwinds in recent times. On June 12, Air India's Boeing 787-8 plane enroute to London Gatwick crashed into a building soon after take off from Ahmedabad, killing 260 people. Akasa Air says no issues found in fuel switches in its Boeing 737 MAX planes

Last Updated: New Dehi, Jul 22 (PTI) Akasa Air has completed the checks on the fuel switches of its Boeing 737 MAX planes and there were no adverse findings, a senior airline executive said on Tuesday. The airline has a fleet of 30 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. A total of 196 such aircraft are to be delivered to the carrier in the coming years. Last week, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) directed airlines to inspect the fuel switch locking system in their Boeing 787 and 737 planes by July 21. The direction came after the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) said in its preliminary report that fuel switches were cut off before the Air India plane crash last month. Akasa Air's Chief Financial Officer Ankur Goel said the airline complies with whatever requirements that continue to come either from Boeing as a manufacturer or from the DGCA as a safety regulator. 'The inspection has been done. We have reported our findings to the DGCA. Very happy to say that no adverse findings found on the switches at all," he told PTI. He was responding to a query about the findings of the inspection of the fuel switches. Fuel control switches regulate the flow of fuel into the aircraft engines. Earlier in the day, Air India said it has completed 'precautionary" inspection of the locking mechanism of the fuel control switch (FCS) on its Boeing 787 and 737 aircraft fleet and no issues were found. Air India has a total of 33 wide-body Boeing 787s and Air India Express has around 75 narrow-body 737s. There are more than 150 Boeing 737s and 787s being operated by Indian airlines. Akasa Air and SpiceJet operate Boeing 737s. IndiGo also operates Boeing 787 and 737s, but they are leased from foreign airlines, which means they won't be subject to the DGCA directive. On June 12, Air India's Boeing 787-8 plane operating the flight AI 171 enroute to London Gatwick from Ahmedabad crashed into a building soon after take off, killing 260 people, including 19 on the ground.
