470 Sabah supermarts, stores: Sara recipients can use MyKad to buy

RANAU: A total of 470 supermarket and grocery premises in Sabah are now part of the 4,152 nationwide outlets where Sara recipients can use their MyKad to purchase basic necessities. Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said that apart from purchases at existing fixed premises, KPDN proposed that Sara assistance could also be used for purchases at the Mobile PJRM in the future. This initiative, he said, allows Sara recipients, especially in rural and inland areas, to make purchases using the SARA assistance provided in the MyKad at the mobile PJRM locations. According to him, for the state of Sabah, until July 2025, a total of RM410 million has been disbursed to 830,000 STR recipients. He added that RM500 million has also been disbursed to 506,000 Sara recipients. Armizan, who is also the Member of Parliament for Papar, said this while officiating the KPDN Carnival Tour Program 2025 and the Buy Malaysian Goods Campaign for the Sabah Zone held at the Ranau Sports Complex on Saturday. The KPDN continues to organize the KPDN Carnival Tour Program and the Buy Malaysian Goods Campaign Series 2 for the 2025 Sabah Zone in Ranau. The 3-day program from 25 to 27 July 2025 is expected to attract 60 thousand visitors. The main objective of the organization is to popularize government services at the grassroots, especially services under the responsibility and functionality of the KPDN. The KPDN Carnival 2025 also serves as a catalyst in strengthening the Buy Malaysian Goods Campaign (KBBM) 2025 through the theme 'Let's Buy Local' as continuous support for local products and strengthening the domestic economy. Armizan added that this campaign is a strategic step to strengthen domestic economic growth while helping entrepreneurs and local micro, small and medium enterprises (PMKS) in expanding their market network. 'At the same time, this initiative provides space to highlight the quality of local products which can be the main choice and thus reduce dependence on imported goods. 'Additional Allocation for the Rahmah Madani Umbrella Initiative KPDN welcomes the additional allocation for the Rahmah Madani Sales Program (PJRM) of RM300 million announced by Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister on July 23, 2025. 'Through this additional allocation, KPDN will increase the frequency of PJRM implementation nationwide with a target of 20 thousand series of PJRM implementation throughout 2025,' he said. For the state of Sabah, Armizan said that KPDN is targeting 2,276 series of PJRM throughout this year. Starting from 1 January to 26 July 2025, a total of 1,089 series of PJRMs have been implemented in Sabah. Expansion of Rahmah Basic Contribution (Sara) for All KPDN also welcomes and appreciates the initiatives and efforts focused on the well-being of the people through the additional allocation of Rahmah Cash Contribution (STR) and Rahmah Basic Contribution (Sara) from RM13 billion to RM15 billion for this year. This additional RM2 billion is for a one-off Sara assistance of RM100 to all Malaysians aged 18 and above. At the same time, he said, KPDN will collaborate with the Ministry of Finance (MOF) to expand access for Sara recipients to purchase basic necessities. Meanwhile, about 60,000 visitors flocked to the 2025 KPDN Carnival Sabah Zone KBBM held over three days starting on Friday (July 25-27) at the Ranau Sports Complex (free admission). KPDN Business Development Division Director Adiratno Che Ani said the target is also to chalk RM250,000 in sales value through the Buy Malaysian Goods Campaign (KBBM). 'A total of 60 entrepreneurs from Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia are present to market various products,including handicrafts, food and beauty products. All products are of good quality and comparable to foreign goods. 'Based on the response since this morning, I am confident the sales target of RM250,000 can be achieved when this programme ends on Sunday,' he said at the Ranau Sports Complex. He said the KBBM themed 'Jom Beli Lokal' (Buy Malaysian Goods), is also a platform for local entrepreneurs and micro, small and medium enterprises (PMKS) to expand their marketing network to boost the domestic economy. Various interesting activities at booths provided include Arm-Wrestling, KPDN Little Stars Bintang Lokal (two karaoke contests with prize-money) colouring contest, the Mobile Legends E-Sports Sara Hidup/Living Costs competition (RM3,000 in prizes), the Cost of Living Expedition based on a fact-finding concept and a concert billed as The Band Showdown which features music as a medium for the cost of living message. The big attraction is a Lucky Draw offering grand prizes of a Perodua Alza 1.5L (H), Proton S70 1.5T Premium and a Modenas Karisma EX 125 motorcycle. Living Cost Ministry to ensure SARA aid recipients get wider access to essential items, more Jualan Rahmah planned
RANAU, July 27 — The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) will collaborate with the Ministry of Finance (MOF) to expand access to essential items for recipients of the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) aid. Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said KPDN had proposed that recipients be allowed to use their SARA aid at mobile Jualan Rahmah MADANI Programme (PJRM) locations, in addition to existing participating retailers. He said, at present, recipients of the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) aid could only purchase basic items at 4,152 participating supermarkets and retail outlets across the country, including 470 in Sabah. 'This initiative enables SARA recipients, particularly in rural and interior areas, to use the aid credited to their MyKad to make purchases at mobile PJRM locations,' he told reporters after launching the Sabah Zone KPDN Carnival 2025 here last night. Armizan said the additional RM300 million allocation for PJRM would enable KPDN to increase its frequency nationwide, with a target of 20,000 series throughout this year. 'For Sabah, KPDN is targeting 2,276 PJRM series throughout this year, and as of July 26, a total of 1,089 have already been implemented. We will adopt several approaches to ensure the target is achieved by year-end,' he said. He said the approaches included increasing the range of items offered and enhancing cooperation with strategic retail partners. 'Through these improvements, the people will have more choices. The ministry can no longer act alone as it did in the past. For example, today's PJRM is carried out in collaboration with retail partners,' he explained. Commenting on today's programme, this was the second year KPDN had implemented the programme, adding that six carnival tours would be held across the country this year. 'The carnival in Ranau, held in conjunction with the Buy Malaysian Goods Campaign (KBBM), is the second in the series this year, and we expect around 60,000 visitors throughout the three-day event,' he said. Armizan said that the main goal of the initiative was to bring government services, particularly those under KPDN, closer to the people, especially at the grassroots level. 'The KPDN Carnival 2025 also serves as a catalyst in empowering KBBM through the theme 'Jom Beli Lokal' as part of ongoing efforts to support local products and strengthen the domestic economy. It is also a strategic move to boost domestic economic growth while helping local entrepreneurs and micro, small and medium enterprises expand their market reach. 'At the same time, this initiative provides a platform to showcase the quality of local products, which can become the preferred choice and ultimately reduce reliance on imported goods,' he said. — Bernama

Only Sabahans know state's woes: Masidi

RANAU: The people of Sabah must give full support to the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government because only local leadership understands the real needs of the state as well as the people here. Sabah Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (PGRS) Deputy President and Karanaan PGRS Division Head Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said, as the state election looming, a new mandate must be given to the coalition in order to keep the prosperity going. Masidi highlighted the GRS government's achievements over the past 3 years despite various challenges. He noted that during the Covid-19 pandemic in September 2020, movement restrictions significantly impacted operations, but the government still managed to function effectively for nearly 4 years. He emphasized that the GRS government's achievements in 2 to 3 years were among the best in Sabah's history. Key accomplishments included increased government revenue, record-breaking public savings, and nearly triple the reserves compared to previous administrations. Advertisement Masidi who is also Sabah's Finance Minister was speaking when officiating the 2025 Annual Conference of the PGRS for the Kundasang, Karanaan and Paginatan Divisions that was held at the Dewan Masyarakat Ranau on Thursday. Regarding infrastructure, particularly water management, Masidi also addressed issues concerning electricity, roads and clean water supplies. He reminded the people that Sabah Electricity is not entirely under the state government, but it is more under the federal's Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB). In regards to the road problem, he said that such problems have also existed during the previous administrations, but today more road network and upgrading has been done, despite not being noticed by the oppositions. Concerning water issues, he explained that previous administration's decisions to terminate water management contracts led to current problems and legal claims totalling around RM300 million in compensation. He announced new developments, including a water treatment plant in Ranau from the Nakamura River that will provide consistent water supply regardless of weather conditions. Towards that end, Masidi emphasized the importance of political stability and professional governance for continued progress. The conference concluded with a call for unity within the party and focus on selecting capable candidates for upcoming elections. He stressed that elections are not beauty contests but rather about choosing hardworking individuals who can drive progress. Kundasang residents receive free eye screenings, eyeglasses

RANAU (May 4): A total of 573 residents in Kundasang benefitted from free eye screenings and eyeglasses through a community program organized by the Sabah Golf Association (SGA) in collaboration with SPECTRA, led by Datuk Seri David Sew. The two-day initiative, held on May 2 and 3, took place at SMK Bundu Tuhan and the Kundasang Open Stage, providing vision care to students and villagers. Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam praised the effort, stating that such programs significantly improve the quality of life for locals, especially those with vision impairments. 'This initiative reflects a meaningful way of giving back to the community,' said Dr Joachim, who is also Kundasang's assemblyman, during his visit to SMK Bundu Tuhan. A total of 123 students were prescribed corrective glasses on the first day, while another 300 residents received theirs on the second day — bringing the total free eyeglass recipients to 423. Dr Joachim thanked SGA, sponsors Sinaland Sdn Bhd and Primaland Sdn Bhd, as well as SMK Bundu Tuhan's principal, Prince Abd Halim Chan, for their support. He encouraged more NGOs and private firms to contribute to rural welfare programs. SGA secretary Ian Yong said the pilot project aimed to assist students and underprivileged residents, hoping the glasses would enhance their learning and daily lives.
