KUALA LUMPUR: Ng Eain Yow is all fired up for the US$58,750 Squash on Fire Open which begins tomorrow in Washington after a boost in world ranking. The Malaysian moved up to a career best of world No. 10 yesterday. Asian champion Eain Yow is seeded second in the Washington event where he has a first round bye. His main challenge is expected to be against world No.16 Leonel Cardenas of Mexico in the semi-finals. In February, Eain Yow lost in straight games to Cardenas in the semi-finals of the Motor City Open in Detroit. The top seed is world No. 8 Marwan El Shorbagy of England. National chief coach Ajaz Azmat said Eain Yow is now much fitter and stronger in his game after training for a month in Bristol. "Eain Yow is all fired up to get the better of Cardenas this time. "He is motivated and looks confident after moving up to world No.10." National men's No. 2 Sanjay Jeeva and national women's No. 2 Rachel Arnold will also feature in the Squash on Fire Open. Yee Xin Ying rose a remarkable 12 rungs in her world ranking to 65th after she upset Egypt's world No. 44 Nadine Shahin and England's world No. 40 Lucy Beecroft to win the RC Pro Series in St Louis, the United States, earlier this month.

Pakistan's emerging squash talent Ashab Irfan claimed his first major international title at the St. Louis Open 2025, defeating England's Charlie Lee in straight sets in the final of the RC Pro Series event held in Missouri. Irfan, 20, delivered a dominant performance to secure a 3-0 victory in just 37 minutes, with set scores of 11-7, 11-2, and 11-7. Ranked 66th in the Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Rankings prior to the tournament, Irfan showcased exceptional precision, agility and control, leaving Lee unable to mount a challenge throughout the match. The $15,000 PSA event drew participation from more than 30 players and marked a significant milestone in Irfan's young career. 'This victory is a testament to Ashab's relentless hard work, passion, and resilience,' said coach Irfan Jahanzeb Masood following the match. 'We give thanks to Allah for this blessing. It's not just a personal milestone — it's a sign of a bright future for Pakistani squash.' Masood confirmed that the win is expected to push Irfan into the PSA top 60, projecting a move from 66th to 57th in the rankings. The improvement could enable Irfan to qualify for higher-tier international competitions and solidify his status among the sport's rising stars. 'We are profoundly grateful for the unwavering encouragement from Ashab's family and fans,' Masood added. 'Their belief in his potential has been a constant source of motivation throughout this journey.' The win has also been hailed by the Pakistan Squash Federation as a major boost for the country's prospects on the global squash circuit, with officials calling it a moment of pride for Pakistani sport.

ST LOUIS, April 18 — National squash player Yee Xin Ying captured her first title of the year with an emphatic straight-games win over top seed Lucy Beecroft in the RC Pro Series final today. New Straits Times reported that the seventh-seeded Malaysian needed just 31 minutes to defeat England's world No. 40 Beecroft 11-7, 11-5, 11-5 to claim the 15k PSA Challenger title in St Louis, United States. It marked the 21-year-old's second career victory over Beecroft, having previously beaten her at the St. James Classic last year. Yee, currently ranked world No. 77, had earlier advanced to the final by sweeping aside Brazil's Margot Prow 11-6, 11-7, 11-6 in a 30-minute semi-final encounter. The win continues a strong April for Yee, who also secured a bronze medal at the Under-23 World Championships in Pakistan earlier this month. The RC Pro Series is part of the PSA Challenger Tour, which provides up-and-coming players a platform to gain ranking points and experience.
