Jabalpur: Taking serious note of the negligence in the ongoing investigation of a filed against the vice chancellor of Rani Durgavati Vishwavidyalaya (RDVV), the MP high court has ordered the formation of a three-member special investigation team (SIT) of senior IPS officers to probe the case. No one from the Jabalpur district will be included in the committee. The single bench instructed the state govt to form the SIT within three days. It is noteworthy that a female officer posted at the Jabalpur-based university filed a complaint of workplace sexual harassment against Vice-Chancellor Rajesh Kumar Verma. The petition stated that on Nov 21, 2024, during a meeting, the vice-chancellor made indecent gestures in his office. He made inappropriate comments and gestures in front of everyone. She requested the CCTV footage from the vice-chancellor's office on the day of the incident under the Right to Information Act, but it was not provided. During the hearing, the govt informed the single bench that a six-member committee was formed for the investigation, and the CCTV footage from the day of the incident was preserved. The university administration informed the committee that the footage could not be downloaded due to a malfunction in the CCTV. Upon reviewing the report submitted by the district collector, the single bench found no mention of whether the CCTV camera in the vice-chancellor's room was operational on the day of the incident. The single bench instructed the committee to present an affidavit examining the seized documents, witness statements, and other elements related to the investigation. The district collector expressed dissatisfaction with the investigation in the submitted affidavit. The single bench found that the investigation committee showed no interest in gathering evidence during the inquiry. Despite a serious complaint of workplace sexual harassment by a female employee, the respondent officers acted arbitrarily without conducting a proper investigation. The petitioner's lawyer argued that the accused was an influential person with high political connections. The court gave the officers an opportunity to conduct a proper investigation, but the submitted report was unsatisfactory. Advocate Alok Bagrecha represented the petitioner.

Bhopal: In a major twist in the case of alleged sexual harassment of a woman official of the Rani Durgavati Vishwa Vidyalaya (RDVV), Jabalpur, by its vice-chancellor, the inquiry committee constituted at the behest of the Madhya Pradesh high court was informed that the CCTV in the vice-chancellor's room was not working when the alleged incident took place. Therefore, the footage of the incident could not be provided. Earlier, the court was told by the Jabalpur administration that the CCTV footage of the vice-chancellor's room when the alleged incident took place was "safe". Following the new revelation, the bench of Justice Vishal Mishra ordered a probe by forensic or technical experts on whether the CCTV in the vice-chancellor's room was working that day or not. It further asked the registrar of RDVV, Jabalpur, to state on oath why the CCTV footage of that day was not State Women's Commission and the principal secretary of higher education had ordered a probe into the complaint of the woman official. However, when the probe didn't get underway, the woman moved the HC seeking direction that the inquiry be conducted into her allegation against the her petition, she said that the vice-chancellor called her into his chamber to discuss an issue on Nov 21, 2024. Other subordinate officials were also summoned. She was the only woman among them. In the presence of them all, the vice-chancellor used objectionable language towards her and made obscene gestures. She asked for CCTV footage of the day and time when the incident took place, but it was not given to her. The court had asked that the CCTV footage of the day when the incident took place should be kept the higher education department constituted a five-member committee to hold an inquiry into the woman's complaint. The court further asked the registrar of RDVV, Jabalpur, to submit an affidavit explaining why the CCTV footage of that day was not preserved. Bhopal/Jabalpur: The MP high court has stayed Rani Durgavati Vishwavidyalaya 's (RDVV) decision to impose a 25 per cent late fee on Katni Degree College for depositing its affiliation fee . The court directed the university to reopen its portal, and allow the college to pay the fee without the penalty by May 5. The court also issued notices to the university and other respondents in the case. Lal Mathura Das Education Society, which runs the college, argued that they were supposed to deposit Rs 17 lakh as affiliation fee for the academic session 2025-26. They could not deposit the fee on time because of erratic information on the portal. The university administration has now imposed a 25 per cent of the original fee as a late fee and asked to deposit the amount by May 5. Following initial arguments, a bench of justice Sanjeev Sachdeva and justice Vinay Saraf stayed the order of the RDVV administration.
