Nargis suffered beatings from her brother, was betrayed by Raj Kapoor, was underpaid for 10 years, stopped working with RK films after... Raj Kapoor, the original showman of Indian cinema, left a lasting legacy of films that remain fresh in the audience's mind. Not just his professional life, but also his personal life marred by a tumultuous affair with actress Nargis grabbed many headlines, leaving his fans intrigued. Their professional relationship gradually turned into love and lasted for almost a decade. Although, they became inseparable but their tragic-lover affair had no future as Raj Kapoor was already married to Krishna. Nargis's family was impetuously against her relationship with Raj Kapoor, so much so that her brother Akhtar used to beat her up constantly for being with him. But madly in love she was, Nargis put her career on hold, let go of opportunities and money, so that she could stay around Raj Kapoor. Raj Kapoor was so keen to cast Nargis in Aag , which was the first film of RK banner. So, he approached Jaddanbai, Nargis' mom, and offered to pay Rs 5000 as fees. But Nargis' brother jumped in and renegotiated the deal as he knew that his sister was already a leading actress, and got Raj to pay Rs 40,000. Following Aag, Raj kept on working with Nargis and gave her many opportunities, but never paid her what she deserved. Her undeniable love for Raj made him settle for less, and as a result of this, the finances of her family affected badly. After Nargis lost his parents, the financial responsibilities of her siblings and their family fell on her shoulders. Since the whole responsibility of her family was on her, it became more important for her to take up projects that helped her monetarily. Slowly, she realised that her association with Raj Kapoor was taking an emotional and financial toll on her. Nargis was aware that he wouldn't leave his wife for her, and she was wasting her time on him. Moreover, she was also losing work opportunities as many felt that she is only working with RK films. Also, Raj Kapoor wasn't paying her nearly what she deserve, and falsely made her believe that she was part of RK films, with no authoritsation on paper. It was during Chori Chori that Nargis asked her brother, who was her manager at that time, to look for work beyond RK sphere. Chori Chori failed, and eventually it was her last association with Raj Kapoor. Her last appearance in RK films was in Jagte Raho, and from then on she starred in new lot of films like Adalat, Lajwanti and Miss India. However, it was Mehbbob Khan's Mother India that changed her career not just professionally but also personally. It was during the making of Mother India that she met her future husband Sunil Dutt and never looked back.

Anurag Kashyap fires back at Vivek Agnihotri's claim that he was drunk, difficult to deal with: 'Jhootha hai ye aadmi'

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has fired back at fellow filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri after the latter claimed that Kashyap was a 'drunkard' who was difficult to deal with on the sets of Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal, a film on which they worked together. Anurag has called the statement a lie, presenting his side of the events. (Also read: Vivek Agnihotri says it became difficult to handle Anurag Kashyap on Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal set: 'Bahut sharab peeta tha') On Wednesday morning, Anurag shared a screengrab of a news report detailing Vivek's statement about him. The headline read: 'Anurag Kashyap was a drunkard who palmed off work to Vikram Motwane': Vivek Agnihotri says it became difficult to deal with the filmmaker. Anurag wrote below the screenshot, "Kitna jhootha hai ye aadmi. Shooting London me hui thi (This man is a liar. The shoot took place in London). I was in India. He didn't want the script by Motwane or me. He wanted to make the Lagaan of football and took his own writer to write that crappy script. Neither me, nor @motwayne went on the set ever." Anurag ended the note with a message to Vivek: 'Stop posturing @vivekagnohotri'. Vikramaditya Motwane, Anurag's longtime associate, who was also named in his statement by Vivek, also shared Anurag's Instagram Story, adding his seal of approval to it. Earlier this week, in an interview with Digital Commentary, Vivek claimed Anurag's drinking habits during the making of Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal made the working environment challenging. "Anurag uss time bahut sharab peeta tha toh usko time ka koi hisaab nahi tha (Anurag used to drink a lot at that time and had no sense of time). Phir voh Vikramaditya Motwane ko le aaye, bola mera RK ladka hai, vo help karega. Dheere dheere saara kaam Vikramaditya ko hi de diya. Main jo banana chah raha tha, yeh log ki soch kuch alag thi, yeh kuch aur hi banana chah rahe the (Then he brought Vikramaditya Motwane, saying 'he's my RK boy, he'll help out.' Gradually, all the work was handed over to Vikramaditya. What I wanted to make was different; their vision was entirely something else). Ultimately, we were at loggerheads. The production house had a word with Anurag… Anurag ko handle karna mushkil ho gaya (It became difficult to handle Anurag). Because only an alcoholic knows what an alcoholic goes through. It became a very big problem.' Produced by Ronnie Screwvala and directed by Vivek Agnihotri for UTV Motion Pictures, Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal starred John Abraham, Bipasha Basu, Arshad Warsi, and Boman Irani. The sports drama, released in 2007, was only moderately successful at the box office.

Vivek Agnihotri says it became difficult to handle Anurag Kashyap on Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal set: ‘Bahut sharab peeta tha'

Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri, known for The Kashmir Files and The Tashkent Files, recently opened up about his experience of working with director Anurag Kashyap. In an interview with Digital Commentary, Vivek recalled how Anurag's drinking habits during the making of Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal made the working environment challenging. (Also Read: Anurag Kashyap says Bollywood lacks the 'brains' to make a film like Pushpa: 'Everyone is trying to create a universe') Interrupting the interviewer during a discussion on Anurag Kashyap's recent controversial comments on Brahmins amid the Phule row, Vivek said, 'Leave anything about him, unki toh mansik halat kya hai mujhe nahi malum (I don't know anything about his mental wellbeing). I have worked with him. We were doing the film Goal together. He was the writer of the film. Saif Ali Khan and Priyanka Chopra were supposed to do it, but Saif had some personal issues at the time, so he left. Then we got John and Bipasha. Anurag uss time bahut sharab peeta tha toh usko time ka koi hisaab nahi tha (Anurag used to drink a lot at that time and had no sense of time).' Vivek went on to share how Anurag brought Vikramaditya Motwane into the project, which eventually shifted the creative direction. 'Phir voh Vikramaditya Motwane ko le aaye, bola mera RK ladka hai, vo help karega. Dheere dheere saara kaam Vikramaditya ko hi de diya. Main jo banana chah raha tha, yeh log ki soch kuch alag thi, yeh kuch aur hi banana chah rahe the (Then he brought Vikramaditya Motwane, saying 'he's my RK boy, he'll help out.' Produced by Ronnie Screwvala and directed by Vivek Agnihotri for UTV Motion Pictures, Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal starred John Abraham, Bipasha Basu, Arshad Warsi, and Boman Irani. The sports drama was only moderately successful at the box office and was released the same year as Chak De! India, which was a major hit. Vivek Agnihotri is currently gearing up for the release of The Delhi Files – Bengal Chapter, featuring Mithun Chakraborty in the lead. Meanwhile, Anurag Kashyap will appear as the antagonist in Dacoit: A Love Story, co-starring Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur. The film's release date is yet to be announced.

Worried UAE investors seek answers from UK asset firm under fraud investigation

Several UAE-based investors say they are in the dark about their funds after a UK-based asset management firm under investigation for suspected fraud, suspended payments and sent out an email citing a moratorium. A Dubai-based Indian investor told Khaleej Times he is part of a group of 10 individuals in the UAE who have stopped receiving payouts from the Seventy Ninth Group in recent weeks and are now exploring legal options. 'All of us received an email saying payments are being paused, but there is no clarity on how long this will last,' said the man, who claimed to have invested over Dh800,000. 'We are planning to take legal action to get our money back.' The Seventy Ninth Group, which entered the UAE market in 2022, is being investigated by the City of London Police in what authorities have called a 'suspected widespread fraud case' involving high-return investments tied to property-secured loan notes. The UK police said four people had been arrested and valuables, including cash and luxury items, were seized during raids at multiple locations in Merseyside last month. In a fresh statement sent to Khaleej Times on Wednesday, the Seventy Ninth Group said it had stopped accepting new funds through loan notes and had asked for a moratorium on payments to existing clients as it works with 'leading experts' to restructure the business. 'It is our strong intention to complete these projects,' the company said. 'We appreciate that this is a deeply unsettling time for both our colleagues and clients… These steps have been taken to ensure that the business survives and looks to deliver on its obligations.' But that has done little to reassure some investors in the UAE. RK, another investor who contacted Khaleej Times, said he was 'trapped in the crisis' and unable to get a clear response from the company's local office in Dubai. 'They just brush off the matter saying they are only a marketing agency and ask me to contact the UK office, which never responds.' It is unclear how many UAE investors have been affected or the total amount of money at stake. But the case has reignited concerns about investor protection when it comes to cross-border financial products marketed in the UAE. The Seventy Ninth Group had earlier denied any wrongdoing and said it was cooperating with investigators and had appointed independent forensic accountants for a comprehensive business review. The City of London Police has urged anyone who has been contacted by the group about investments to file a report through the Major Incident Public Portal as investigations continue. The four individuals arrested have been released on bail.
