Pahang Introduces Malaysia's First Prebiotic Rice
TEMERLOH, Aug 16 (Bernama) -- Pahang has become the first state in Malaysia to produce prebiotic rice, marketed under the brand name Beras Pahang. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said the rice differs from other local varieties as it offers multiple benefits. 'Beras Pahang has its uniqueness. It is a prebiotic rice, low in sugar, and suitable for those with diabetes. 'It has already entered the market in limited quantities. For now, we are prioritising sales in Pahang before distribution in other states,' he told reporters after opening the Pahang Mini MAHA 2025 at Dataran Temerloh here today. Cultivated in the Ganchong paddy fields in Pekan, the rice is said to be tastier, more fragrant and softer, while its prebiotic content supports digestion and overall bowel health. At the event, Beras Pahang was offered at RM8 per kilogramme. Commenting on the inaugural Pahang Mini MAHA 2025, Wan Rosdy said it will be held at different locations each year following an overwhelming response, with over 80,000 visitors recorded today. Meanwhile, citing the Malaysian Agriculture Census interim report released by the Department of Statistics Malaysia, he said Pahang has proven its capability as the country's second-largest contributor to the agriculture sector, after Johor, with sales worth RM25.12 billion. Of that amount, he said 88 per cent came from the crop subsector, proving Pahang's fertile land and the hardworking spirit of its people.

Grown in Pekan's Ganchong fields, it boasts enhanced taste, fragrance, and softness while aiding digestion. Priced at RM8 per kg, it was launched at Pahang Mini MAHA 2025 in Dataran Temerloh. The event drew over 80,000 visitors, prompting plans to rotate its location annually. Wan Rosdy cited Pahang's RM25.12 billion agriculture sector contribution, second only to Johor. Crops dominated with 88% of sales, led by palm oil (RM14.18 billion) and Cameron Highlands vegetables (RM3.6 billion). Musang King durian earned RM2.42 billion, reinforcing its global appeal. Pahang also leads in fresh milk production, with 9.05 million litres worth RM47.25 million. Pahang ranks second in Malaysia's agriculture sales with RM25.12 billion in 2023
KUANTAN: Pahang emerged as Malaysia's second-highest contributor to agriculture sales in 2023, generating RM25.12 billion, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM). The state remains a vital player in the national agriculture sector. Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin revealed that the crop subsector dominated with RM22.11 billion (88.0 per cent), followed by livestock (RM1.21 billion), fishery (RM0.91 billion), forestry and logging (RM0.56 billion), and aquaculture (RM0.33 billion). 'Cameron Highlands continues to lead vegetable production with RM3.60 billion in sales, while Pahang is Peninsular Malaysia's top oil palm producer, contributing RM14.18 billion, primarily from Rompin, Pekan, and Bera,' Mohd Uzir said during the launch of the Pahang Agriculture Census Interim Report 2024. As Agriculture Census 2024 commissioner, he emphasised DOSM's support for state initiatives aligning with the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP). 'Accurate data will enhance sector efficiency and market stability,' he added. State Agriculture Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Sofi Abd Razak highlighted proactive federal-state collaboration in sustaining agricultural projects, assuring that land issues will not hinder progress. - Bernama
