Cropmate posts RM3.5mil net profit on RM45.7mil revenue in Q2

KUALA LUMPUR: Cropmate Bhd posted a net profit of RM3.5 million for its second quarter ended June 30, 2025. The company recorded revenue of RM45.7 million during the quarter, with local sales contributing about 96.9 per cent to the total. Cropmate achieved a gross profit margin of 17.5 per cent for the period. It said pre-tax profit stood at RM4.6 million, compared with RM5.0 million in the preceding quarter, as revenue slipped 5.9 per cent due to lower sales volume of fertilisers. Cropmate said its performance was mainly underpinned by sales to oil palm plantations and durian orchards. Looking ahead, the company said demand for fertilisers is expected to remain largely dependent on the performance of the plantation and food crop sectors. It added that any changes in political, social and economic conditions, including tariffs or trade restrictions, could affect demand and disrupt supply chains. Cropmate managing director Lee Chin Yok said the company remains committed to enhancing operational efficiency, helping customers boost productivity, and driving its growth initiatives. The company had used RM23.2 million from the RM42 million raised through its initial public offering. The proceeds were channelled towards working capital, capital expenditure and listing expenses. Cropmate said it is advancing its strategic expansion plan, which includes the proposed acquisitions of Factory Lots 8949 and 8950 and the planned disposal of Lot 51.

#SHOWBIZ: Yusof Haslam open to establishing film academy with peers, Finas

KUALA LUMPUR: The family of top filmmaker Datuk Yusof Haslam has often earned praise from netizens and moviegoers for their "box office gold". In fact, Yusof and his sons Syamsul and Syafiq were recently advised by some netizens to help the film industry's future growth by setting up a film academy to discover the next crop of filmmakers. When asked about this suggestion, Yusof said that it was a great idea, but he and his company could not realise it alone, as they were "not as powerful as the Hollywood movie moguls". "My sons and I think it's a very good move to sustain the industry. Every national film industry needs to grow and there has to be a good platform to find the next big filmmakers, TV and movie stars," Yusof told NST. "But we can't do it alone, it has to be an industry-wide effort and if I were to get the ball rolling, I would have to work closely with all major filmmakers and their companies as well as the National Film Development Corporation (Finas)." Yusof added that just as the government invested money to discover and train new sportsmen and sportswomen in badminton, squash or athletics, government involvement in partnership with filmmakers was the key to the film industry's rejuvenation. "Nothing beats a public-private sector partnership. Our industry is small, so making it grow requires teamwork between Finas and filmmakers, all major ones, not just my company." Yusof's company, Skop Productions, is currently "riding high" in the local box office with the action-packed and star-studded movie, Blood Brothers: Bara Naga. The movie, directed by Syafiq and Abhilash Chandra, stars Syafiq Kyle, Sharnaaz Ahmad, Shukri Yahaya, Wan Hanafi Su, Amelia Henderson and Tracie Sinidol among others. It is fast becoming a box office phenomena having collected RM45.7 million after 11 days in cinemas nationwide.
