Maldives President visits Petronas Twin Towers
KUALA LUMPUR: Maldives President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, who is on a four-day official visit to Malaysia, visited the iconic Petronas Twin Towers today. Muizzu and his delegation arrived at 9.30 am and were welcomed by Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad and Petronas' Malaysia Petroleum Management senior vice-president Datuk Bacho Pilong. Muizzu spent over an hour touring the sky bridge and observation deck, which are popular tourist attractions at the towers. Muizzu was briefed by Safful Bahari Din, the manager of Visit Management Services, Petronas Twin Towers, about the architectural history of the world's tallest twin towers. Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Muizzu witnessed the exchange of three Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and two Exchange of Notes (EoN) covering various sectors, aimed at strengthening cooperation in various fields for mutual benefit. Muizzu arrived on Sunday at the invitation of the Prime Minister, marking his first official visit to Malaysia since assuming office as Maldives President in November 2023. In 2024, Malaysia's total trade with the Maldives increased by 4.3 per cent to RM862.7 million (USD189 million) from RM827.3 million (USD180.9 million) in 2023, making the archipelagic state Malaysia's sixth largest trading partner among South Asian countries.

Malaysia seeks collaboration beyond Asean, eyes Maldives partnership
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is intensifying efforts to strengthen collaboration within ASEAN and with neighbouring nations such as the Maldives, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He said that while Malaysia prioritises closer ties within ASEAN, it must also extend engagement beyond the region to friendly countries that share common aspirations for development and prosperity. "In this context, the Maldives represents an important partner. We value not only the longstanding people-to-people ties between Malaysia and Maldives but also see tremendous potential to expand our collaboration in trade, investment, digital innovation, and environmental sustainability," he said in his keynote address at the Maldives-Malaysia Business Forum 2025 here today. Also present was Maldives President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, who was on his first official visit to Malaysia, since becoming President in November 2023, at Anwar's invitation. Anwar said Malaysia and the Maldives have been longtime friends, sharing familiarity in policies, political systems and strong bilateral ties. "With the current government leadership in the Maldives, there is now a clear determination to move the country up the ladder with greater policy clarity,' he added. Earlier, Anwar and Muizzu witnessed the exchange of three memoranda of understanding and two exchange of notes covering various sectors to strengthen cooperation for mutual benefit. Anwar hosts luncheon for Maldives president
PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today hosted an official luncheon in honour of visiting Maldives President Dr Mohamed Muizzu at the Seri Perdana Complex here. Muizzu and his delegation, who arrived in Malaysia yesterday for a four-day official visit, were welcomed at the Prime Minister's official residence at 11.25 am. Upon arrival, Muizzu was greeted with a cheerful 'Welcome to Malaysia' from 70 schoolchildren of Sekolah Kebangsaan Presint 9(2). Also present were Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, and Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh. The luncheon followed a bilateral meeting, which took stock of Malaysia-Maldives relations, particularly in trade and investment, the halal industry, education, tourism, and youth and sports. The two leaders also witnessed the exchange of three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and two Exchanges of Notes (EoNs) related to tourism, sports cooperation, and health. Anwar and Muizzu are later scheduled to depart for the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre to attend the Maldives-Malaysia Business Forum.
