Aug 12 South Africa (Fairview) form analysis

Race 1 (1,300m) (1) PALANCAR could prove to be the right one if he runs up to his form shown on the turf. (8) ICED MARMALADE was well beaten on debut, but that winner has won a couple of good races since then. (2) FIZZLY BUBBLY is threatening to win, and should be right there at the finish. (3) BANDMASTER makes his local debut and would not be a surprise winner. Race 2 (1,600m) (1) LAUGH TILL I CRY has shown improvement of late and could be ready to score. (2) OH MANDY has been a disappointment in that she has yet to win a race, but is capable of contesting the finish. (3) BIRD ON A WING has not been beaten far in her local runs and is not out of it. (4) COSMIC CLIFFS improved when she finished third to Garden Sun over 2,200m last time. She may be dropping in trip, but is still worth including in all bets. (6) LANA VIEW and (8) GOLDEN CROC are capable of improving. Watch out for them. Race 3 (2,000m) (1) GLOBAL SCENE has improved since she stepped up in distance. She was outpaced late by an improving gelding last time, and could be better than her modest rivals. (3) PRESERVE FOREVER seems to like this surface, so she could be a threat. (2) WELSH STARLET is unreliable, but can earn some money. (7) CHEAP THRILLS is holding her form and should contest the finish. Race 4 (2,000m) (1) WALKONTHEWILDSIDE is not an easy horse to ride, but she has been unlucky of late. With some luck in the running, she can go one better. (5) THREE CHEERS is in the form of her life and an obvious danger. (6) FLIGHT DISPLAY is capable of running well on this surface and could contest the finish. (2) BOSNAY won over 1,800m three starts ago, and can have a say over longer. Race 5 (2,000m) (6) HAARLEM did not stay last time in a better race than this. He was in good form before that and does like this surface. (4) ANATOLIAN SILVER is capable of scoring if at his best. (5) ROLL OF THE DICE is always a threat if allowed a soft lead. (7) GEORGE HANDEL and (3) SLAINTE MHATH are in good form and have leading claims. Race 6 (1,200m) Probably the most open race on the card. (4) FIRE ALARM seems to like this surface, and might pop up and score at a decent price. (5) MARSHMALLOW reminded us what she is capable of with a good win in her last start. (6) STRANGE MAGIC and (7) GREENLIGHT DANCER are both coming off improved performances, and are not out of it. Race 7 (1,400m) Another competitive handicap. (1) CHILI BOMB did not like the turf last time and managed only seventh, but he was in good form on the Poly before that. He can bounce back to score on this surface. Stable companion (3) FINAL TRY has some fair recent form, and will have S'manga Khumalo in the irons. (7) TINTAMARRE is coming off a brave win and is not out of it. (8) CHARLIE MALONE remains in good form, and is another to consider. Race 8 (1,400m) (6) ALEX MILLER was an easy winner on local debut, and could have more wins in her tank. (12) BENEATH THE MOON has finished fourth in her last two starts, and she is capable of winning. (1) MISS SHAIVI showed improvement last time when she finished third to Blue Palace. She has a good draw in 1. (8) COURAGEOUS finished third to Red William over the mile last time and has a say.

Newsboy's nap and selections for Chelmsford and 4 other meetings on Sunday

Newsboy's Nap selection for Sunday, June 1, is the James Owen-trained Carlton (4.00) at Chelmsford. His next best is Fakenham runner Gone In Sixty (5.05) CARLTON (4.45, nap) gets the vote to defend his unbeaten record at Chelmsford City with a win in the Sky Bet Extra Places Handicap at the Essex Showground on Sunday. James Owen's son of Frankel won his fifth race there from as many visits to the all-weather track with a length-and-a-quarter defeat of Son Of Red last time out last month. ‌ And the mount of Callum Shepherd looks capable of defying a 3lb rise in the weights. ‌ Over the jumps at Fakenham, play the numbers game with GONE IN SIXTY (5.05, nb) in the Racing TV Female Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle. ‌ The ride of Alice Stevens is admittedly a long-standing maiden but ran with credit when third at Bangor 15 days ago. The bay gelding now comes into this contest on a career-low mark and is ready to finally get into black type.
