He took home $77,667 and 10 GCT points following the title triumph. The journey, though, was far from easy. He drew his final classical game against Levon Aronian , but two of his rivals managed to win on demand. Maxime Vachier-Lagrave defeated Jan-Krzysztof Duda, while Alireza Firouzja, from a worse position, outmaneuvered Bogdan-Daniel Deac in a King's Indian Defense. He received an extra $10,000 bonus for finishing ahead of the other two players tied for first. This was the third playoff in five years at the Grand Chess Tour. Because the award ceremony had to happen on the same day, Technical Director Tony Rich explained that tiebreaks were expedited. With three players involved, a single round-robin blitz was played — no rapid games. After three games, no winner was decided, and the final decisive game was Praggnanandhaa vs. Vachier-Lagrave. What started as a seemingly drawn heavy-piece endgame suddenly became a tactical scramble. At the award ceremony, Praggnanandhaa remarked, "I didn't do so well last time. Resting for a few hours before the tiebreak definitely helped," referencing his earlier early draw with Aronian and subsequent rest in his hotel. His victory earns him nine rating points, keeping him at No. 7 in the world rankings. The next Grand Chess Tour event is the 2025 SuperUnited Rapid & Blitz Croatia, scheduled for July 1-6.

Superbet Classic: R Praggnanandhaa In Joint Lead With Three Others
Last Updated: R Praggnanandhaa shares the lead with Fabiano Caruana, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and Alireza Firouzja after the end of the seventh round of the Superbet Classic. Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa kept his joint lead intact drawing with fellow co-leader Alireza Firouzja of France in the seventh round of the Superbet Classic, a part of the Grand Chess Tour, on Thursday. With four points out of a possible seven in his bag, Praggnanandhaa shares the lead with Fabiano Caruana of the United States, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave of France and Firouzja. World champion D Gukesh's hunt for an elusive victory in the event will have to wait another day as he drew with Wesley So without causing any real trouble to the American. With two more rounds to come, it seems like any of the four leaders could win the trophy and the top prize purse of USD 100,000. With just 2.5 points in seven games, Gukesh is clearly struggling to make a mark in the event. Praggnanandhaa did not have to stretch himself much against Firouzja in an English opening game. The Iranian-turned-French chess exponent did try some tricks but was kept away from employing any serious counterplay and the players arrived at a theoretically-drawn rook-and-pawn endgame pretty soon. Results (Round 7): R Praggnanandhaa (Ind, 4) drew with Alireza Firouzja (4); Levon Aronian (USA, 3.5) drew with Fabiano Caruana (USA, 4); Deac Bogdan Daniel (Rou, 3.5) drew with Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (4); Nodirbek Abdusattorov (Uzb, 3.5) beat Duda Jan Krzysztof (Pol, 2.5); Wesley So (USA, 3.5) drew with D Gukesh (Ind, 2.5). R Praggnanandhaa Draws And Maintains Joint Lead, D Gukesh Loses Again In Chess Classics
Indian Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa played out a draw with Duda Jan-Krzysztof of Poland to maintain joint lead with 3.5 points but compatriot D Gukesh lost a tense battle against Alireza Firouzja of France in the sixth round of Superbet Chess Classics, a part of the grand chess tour. Playing the black side of an English opening, Praggnanandhaa was subjected to some initial tactics by Duda, who is looking forward to come back in the event, but the Indian was quite up to the task in not giving any free-way to his Polish opponent. The Polish Grandmaster showed his intent with a queen sacrifice for a rook and minor piece in the middle game and Praggnanandhaa was quick to realise that his chances were slim. The draw was a just result as neither player could make much progress. Gukesh, not at his best, suffered his second loss in the event and, in live rankings, slipped to number five with Arjun Erigaisi taking over as the new world number three. The game should have been a draw once the endgame reached after Alireza missed out on his chances in the middle game. However, with a rook and Bishop on board besides just a pawn each, Gukesh made a huge blunder which was beyond recoverable. Alireza, Fabiano Caruana of the United States, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave of France and Praggnanandhaa share the joint lead. Caruana tried hard to break through with a piece sacrifice against local hero Deac Bogdan-Daniel but he had to settle for a draw as well. The other overnight leader Vachier-Lagrave could do little with his white pieces either as he drew very quickly with Nodirbek Abdusattorov of Uzbekistan. Results after round 6: Duda jan-Krzysztof (POL, 2.5) drew with R Praggnanandhaa (IND, 3.5); Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (FRA, 3.5) drew with Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB, 2); Levon Aronian (USA, 3) drew with Wesley So (USA, 3); Firouzja Alireza (FRA, 3.5) beat D Gukesh (IND, 2); Fabiano Caruana (USA, 3.5) drew with Deac Bogdan-Daniel (ROU, 2.5).
