Loch Lomond nature reserve targeted by thieves stealing signs

Staff at the RSPB Loch Lomond nature reserve, in Gartocharn, are fed up after a series of thefts of signage from the site. Staff at a nature reserve near Loch Lomond have been left frustrated over the repeated thefts of signage there. ‌ RSPB Loch Lomond, in Gartocharn, say that they have experienced a 'series of thefts' at the site. ‌ Site Manager Paula Baker has urged anyone who has information regarding the thefts to contact police. ‌ She said: 'Over the past few months, we have experienced a series of thefts and damage to signage across the RSPB Loch Lomond site. 'This has targeted, in particular, our signage regarding dog walking on site and charges for our car park, as well as safety warning signs regarding livestock in fields.' She added: 'As a charity, this is both time consuming and costly for all involved. The matter has been referred to the police who are continuing to work with us on this issue. ‌ 'As responsible land managers of a National Nature Reserve, we must use signage to convey messages about visitor behaviour on site, which includes responsible dog walking. 'In a nature reserve setting, walking dogs on a short lead is the best way to ensure wildlife is protected, as well as ensuring there are no negative interactions with visitors, children and other dogs.' ‌ Car parking fees for non-members generate income for maintenance of trails and facilities at the site as well as going towards the delivery of vital nature conservation work. Paula added: 'We would kindly request that signs are left in situ by anyone who comes across them. If you have a query about why we are asking for a particular activity on site to change, or why we have signs in certain places, please contact the reserve team on or come and visit us at the Nature Hub, where we will be happy to discuss any concerns with you. 'If you have any information about who may be involved with the thefts, please also contact us using the information above or on 01389 830670.'
