Patrick Kielty's TV future confirmed after Cat Deeley split as bosses issue statement
Patrick Kielty's RTE bosses have confirmed the star's future on the channel after his surprise split from wife of 13 years, Cat Deeley. Patrick Kielty's television career remains on track despite his recent split from Cat Deeley, with Irish broadcaster RTE providing an update after the couple's unexpected announcement. RTE has confirmed that despite personal difficulties, Patrick will be back at the helm of The Late Late Show when it returns in September. It comes following the surprising news that Patrick and his wife Cat Deeley are separating after 13 years married. The pair, who live in London with their two young sons, James, eight, and Milo, five, have been based there while Patrick travelled back and forth to RTE for his presenting commitments. An RTE spokesperson has confirmed the comedian's continued involvement with the show, saying: "RTÉ looks forward to Patrick returning to the Late Late Show in September." According to the Mirror, Patrick had previously revealed a three-season agreement with the national broadcaster. The dad of two has also made it clear that he will personally handle all travel and accommodation costs related to his work on the programme. Patrick, who is set to receive €250,000 per season, further noted that he would get €20,000 for pre-show work and rehearsals. Prior to taking over as host of the Late Late Show, he expressed: "I'm pleased to finally be able to share that I've signed a three-season deal to host The Late Late Show beginning this September. "I'm being paid €250,000 per 30-show season. If additional shows are requested by RTÉ, they'll be paid on a pro-rata basis. "I'm also receiving a one-off payment of €20,000 to cover the pre-production and rehearsals from now to September. The contract allows me to submit flight and accommodation expenses, but I've waived this. "I've made it clear to RTE that I will be covering my own flights and accommodation costs. I've also asked RTÉ to carbon offset my flights. I genuinely hope this helps clarify things going forward. I can't wait to get started." The update on Patrick's career moves comes following his separation from Cat, with the couple issuing a joint statement. It said: "We have taken the decision to end our marriage and are now separated. There is no other party involved." They emphasised their commitment to their children and requested privacy, noting, "We will continue to be united as loving parents to our children and would therefore kindly ask for our family privacy to be respected. There will be no further comment." Details regarding when the split occurred remain unclear, though the couple had been living apart due to work commitments. Patrick was tied up with a significant contract in Ireland, while Cat was needed in London for her role on This Morning. Cat last mentioned Patrick on her Instagram in October 2023, following their final public appearance together the previous month.

RTE Liveline replacement confirmed for Joe Duffy's first week off air
RTÉ has disclosed the presenter who will cover Liveline next week as Joe Duffy steps back into retirement. After 27 years steering the show, the much-admired broadcaster bade farewell to his renowned Radio 1 programme this Friday. The national broadcaster is set to begin the search for Duffy's replacement, with an official announcement expected come autumn. Prior to his last broadcast on Friday, Joe, at the age of 69, assured listeners there would be no break in the Liveline schedule, confirming it would air as usual on Monday. Philip Boucher-Hayes is the chosen stand-in for hosting the esteemed talk show next week, reports RSVP Live. A known voice on RTÉ, Philip presents Countrywide on Radio 1 and has previous experience filling in on Liveline. He has regularly been the relief host for Today With Claire Byrne too. While the radio landscape buzzes with guesses about who will permanently take over Liveline, the reveal is slated for later in the year, with audiences expecting the news by autumn. Amidst rising conjecture, there is talk of Katie Hannon stepping into Duffy's shoes, particularly after her current affairs TV show, Upfront with Katie Hannon, was cancelled after three seasons, not to return this September. Nonetheless, Hannon continues as the voice behind the RTÉ podcast Behind the Story and is also set to front a new television programme ahead of 2025's Presidential election. Commenting on her programme's termination, Katie said: "I'm very proud of what we achieved on Upfront. We managed to buck the international trend and actually grew our audience on linear television and our digital footprint. "It was a privilege to work with our small team of talented and hardworking colleagues led by our editor Janet Traynor. "I also want to thank all of those who came into our studio and trusted us with their stories and contributed to the national conversation on the issues that matter to all of us. "I'm disappointed that we won't be able to keep that conversation going." In his final moments on Friday's Liveline, Joe kept things succinct but memorable, even reviving his famous pandemic message, 'wash your hands'. To his audience, he said: "That's all from me on Liveline. Goodbye from Studio 1, and remember, 51551. Wash your hands. "Love you all. It's been a privilege. It's been a privilege."

Joe Duffy admits family begged him to retire from RTE
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Joe Duffy has revealed his family begged him to retire from RTE – despite the station wanting him to stay on as Liveline host. The legendary broadcaster has worked in RTÉ for 37 years, with 27 of those spent as host of the iconic call-in show. The Dubliner hangs up his mic on June 27 but the Ballyfermot native admitted RTE were keen for him to stay on – but his family were "adamant" that he retire. Joe said: "I'm not real, real gone but it was time for me to move on from Liveline after 27 years. My contract in RTÉ, already extended by two years, was due to finish at the end of June. "There was talk about going on for a bit longer. RTÉ were interested. But my family were adamant - adamant - that I go. I'm 69 and my daughter was saying that she was sick of seeing other dads retiring too late in life or not getting that chance to retire." Joe will miss discussing topical news stories and bringing issues to the public domain on Liveline every day. He hopes to keep working in some capacity, but doesn't know what that will look like yet. He said: "I was talking to a pal this morning about topical issues, and he said, 'When you're finished with the show, you'll be able to say that freely'. Now where I'll say it, I don't know yet. I have had offers of podcasts and newspaper columns, but I want to take it easy for a while." Joe's legacy will be Liveline, but his break in broadcasting came as a reporter for The Gay Byrne Show. His late friend and mentor often spoke of regretting sacrificing family time for work, but when Joe welcomed triplets Sean, Ellen and Ronan with wife June in 1995, his career hit a "rough patch". "Gay was thinking of retiring from the radio, and I was on the road all the time for his show. I was, well you know the line, 'Gay's representative on earth' and all that," he told the RTÉ Guide. "When Gay retired, I presented the show for two days each week, but I was told unceremoniously after a year that it was not working so I was dumped." Another late colleague of Joe's gave him some wise advice as he recalled "Gerry Ryan telling me at the time that the main thing was not to leave the RTÉ campus and tell management that you'll do whatever. So, I stuck in there." Joe will present Liveline for the final time on Friday June 27, but he doesn't want it to be an emotional show. He added: "I'd rather that day be a Funny Friday. I'd love to see all the old gang back - June Rodgers and Doc Savage and Frank Forde and all the rest - and just have a bit of fun. "I'd rather it was a roast than a toast, something to give me a good kick in the backside, something to say: 'Just get over yourself, Joe'." ITV issues huge update on popular comedy series and it will delight fans
ITV and RTÉ have announced that the third and concluding series of the critically-acclaimed comedy drama The Dry has begun production in Dublin. The beloved show, penned by BAFTA-nominee Nancy Harris and directed by film maestro Paddy Breathnach, is now shooting its ultimate chapters. Róisín Gallagher is set to return as Shiv Sheridan, a woman striving for sobriety, and this season introduces a fresh face. Following the tense finale of the second series where Shiv tried to keep her chaotic family intact and saw her former partner leave for Melbourne alone, the story twines further. In the fresh episodes, Shiv crosses paths with Daryl, a charismatic yet enigmatic Aussie, portrayed by Rick Donald, who soon becomes intensely involved with her, appearing unexpectedly in her support circle. Alongside these developments, series three welcomes back familiar faces such as Siobhán Cullen as Caroline, Adam John Richardson as Ant, veteran Ciarán Hinds as Tom, Pom Boyd as Bernie, Moe Dunford as Jack and Eoin Duffy as Rory, reports Belfast Live. A tantalizing preview suggests: "The Sheridans are about to face their biggest challenge yet; a long-held family secret that throws everyone off kilter. "The family desperately try to forge new lives amidst the betrayals of the past but destructive patterns start to emerge. Soon it's Shiv, who might not want to face some hard truths, realising there's only so long she can blame her family, the bad men in her life and even the drink: what if the real problem is just... herself?" Nancy Harris, the creator and writer of the series, expressed her delight at the audience's reception: "It has been a true joy to see audiences embrace the Sheridan family in all their dysfunctional glory and I am so grateful to have gotten to tell this story over three seasons." She also teased what to expect from the upcoming season: "The third and final season aims to go deeper than ever before, really getting under the skin of Shiv and the family in a way that we hope is both surprising, funny and (painfully) honest." Nana Hughes, ITV's Head of Scripted Comedy, shared her excitement about the show's return: "ITV are absolutely thrilled to be part of the team alongside RTÉ and Element Pictures for the third and final series of The Dry. "Nancy Harris' scripts will make you laugh and may well make you cry.... I did both just reading the scripts. Nancy's award winning writing delivers more of the chaotic mess that is the Sheridan family. I can't wait to see what Paddy and the cast will bring to the finale of this wonderful show." Kate McColgan from Screen Ireland also commented on the new season: "Screen Ireland is delighted to support Element Picture's new season of The Dry in association with ITVX and RTÉ. "Nancy Harris's work represents the very best of Irish screen writing; it is beautifully observed with a real emotional integrity and is of course very funny. We congratulate Element Pictures for bringing together such an impressive ensemble of Irish creative talent both in front of and behind the camera." The Dry series one and two is available to stream now.
