YouTuber Hicham Jerando Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison in Morocco
Rabat – Moroccan YouTuber Hicham Jerando, who currently lives in Canada, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Criminal Chamber of the Rabat Court of Appeal. The ruling was made in absentia on Thursday, with Jerando convicted on charges related to terrorism, cybercrime, and inciting violence. According to converging local reports, Jerando is accused of creating a terrorist group that aimed to seriously disturb public order through online campaigns involving threats and manipulation on social media. He has also been using his platform to spread conspiracy theories and misinformation about Morocco's monarchy, including claims of a 'silent coup' and alleged threats to Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan. The case began in early March after a woman filed a complaint saying she had been blackmailed and threatened on the messaging app WhatsApp. Morocco's National Judicial Police (BNPJ) launched an investigation, which led to the arrest of five people close to Jerando in Casablanca, including his sister and his 15-year-old niece. Authorities believe Jerando's relatives helped him carry out his actions by providing him with digital tools and participating in the production of defamatory videos. In addition to terrorism-related charges, those involved face accusations of spreading false information, making threats, attacking public institutions, and insulting a lawyer. Investigators also reportedly found technical evidence of money transfers linked to these activities. Local media confirmed that authorities arrested a male nurse, 57, who dared to rape a teenage girl inside a military hospital in the capital. The incident took place when the victim's family took their sick daughter to the military hospital during Eid al-Fitr for medical treatment. Doctors decided to keep her under close medical supervision. According to local media, the Moroccan girl was raped by a military nurse worker inside the hospital, who first sexually harassed her, deceived her, and sexually assaulted her. Last week, the competent public prosecutor referred the case file to the Rabat Court of Appeal, which is investigating the defendant on charges of indecent assault, enticement of a minor, and abuse of power. Senior military nurse detained for alleged rape of minor at Rabat hospital
Last week, the Public Prosecutor at the Rabat Court of Appeal ordered the pre-trial detention of a Royal Armed Forces Senior Sergeant (Adjudant-Chef), who is implicated in a case involving the rape of a minor. The incident occurred at the Mohammed V Military Teaching Hospital in Rabat, where the 14-year-old victim was receiving medical treatment. According to Assabah newspaper, the accused, who was responsible for her care and worked as a chief nurse, lured the minor and sexually assaulted her. Upon learning of the incident, the victim's family turned to the judiciary, where the accused was interrogated on charges related to «luring a minor, sexual harassment, indecent assault without violence, and abuse of power». The investigating judge ordered his detention and transferred him to Tamesna Prison after confronting him with evidence confirming his involvement in the crime. The minor's family, from the city of Errachidia, had taken their daughter to the military hospital for treatment immediately after Eid al-Fitr. It was decided to keep her at the health facility, where the chief nurse exploited his position to sexually harass and later indecently assault her. The first detailed interrogation session for the accused is scheduled for the end of this month, where he will be confronted with the minor in the presence of her father.
