When is the next public holiday after Islamic New Year?
Following the announcement of the Islamic New Year public holiday date in 2025, it's time to look ahead to the next public holiday after the three-day long weekend. The long weekend will kick off on Friday June 27 for all employees in the United Arab Emirates, giving us a bumper break. And we'll need to savour the time off as we're not due to get another public holiday in the UAE for another three months. After Islamic New Year comes The Prophet Muhammad's birthday (PBUH), according to the official public holiday law introduced at the start of 2025. Predicted to fall on Friday September 5 in 2025, people living in Dubai and the rest of the UAE are in line for another three-day long weekend when the celebration arrives. (Credit: Shutterstock) The Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) birthday, celebrated during Rabi Al-Awwal – the third month of the Islamic calendar – is widely recognised across many Islamic nations, including those in the Gulf region. If Rabi' Al-Awwal begins on Monday August 25, then the Prophet Muhammad's birthday (PBUH) should fall on Friday September 5. This would give Dubai residents a three-day long weekend when combined with Saturday and Sunday. But if Rabi' Al-Awwal begins on Sunday August 24, then Prophet Muhammad's birthday (PBUH) should fall on Thursday September 4. This would give Dubai residents an additional day off during the working week. However, following the introduction of the UAE public holiday law at the start of 2025, the date of Islamic holidays can be moved to the start or end of the week if the cabinet decides to move it. This means that regardless of whether or not the occasion of the Prophet Muhammad's birthday (PBUH) falls on a Thursday or a Friday, we'll likely get a three-day long weekend. This shifting of dates was first used to announce the Islamic New Year public holiday ahead of schedule. There may be another long weekend in the UAE after Islamic New Year
Public holiday fans, take note – the next long weekend is just around the corner and there's another one following not long after. As you likely know by now, Islamic New Year is officially confirmed in the UAE. Recently, the government announced that Friday June 27 would be a public holiday, giving public and private sector employees a well-deserved three-day weekend. But if you thought that was the last of the public holidays until December, think again. What's the next public holiday after the Islamic New Year? The fourth (and final) long weekend of the year is likely to fall on Friday September 5, for the Prophet Muhammad's Birthday (PBUH). It's expected to coincide with Rabi' Al-Awwal 12, though this may shift slightly depending on the lunar calendar. If the current prediction holds, it'll be another Friday off, making it a perfect excuse for a mini staycation or one last summer escape before autumn sets in. As always, dates are subject to change, so keep your eyes on official announcements and your calendar at the ready. Whether you're planning to chill indoors, try a new restaurant, or hit the beach before it gets too hot again – another long weekend means another chance to make the most of UAE life. After the September long weekend, the remaining public holiday is the UAE National Day, which will fall on a Tuesday and Wednesday this yeat (Tuesday and Wednesday). When is Prophet Muhammad's birthday 2025 and will UAE get a day off?
Looks like there may be another long weekend coming our way right after the Eid al-Adha and Islamic New Year holidays. One of the key dates in the UAE public holiday calendar for 2025 is the Prophet Muhammad's birthday (PBUH), which falls on the 12th day of the Islamic month of Rabi' Al-Awwal. The Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) birthday, celebrated during Rabi Al-Awwal – the third month of the Islamic calendar – is widely recognised across many Islamic nations, including those in the Gulf region. These countries, including the UAE, typically mark the day with a national holiday. However, public holidays in the UAE follow both the Western Gregorian calendar and the Islamic Hijri calendar, which is based on the lunar cycle. Each new month in the 12-month Hijri calendar starts when the thin crescent moon is spotted in the sky, based on which the month will be 29 or 30 days long. According to predictions, the waning crescent moon signalling the start of Rabi' Al-Awwal should be visible on Sunday August 24. When is Prophet Muhammad's Birthday in 2025? This means Prophet Muhammad's birthday (PBUH) is predicted to fall on Thursday September 4 or Friday September 5. The exact date will be confirmed closer to the time and will depend on official moon sightings. In either scenario, UAE residents can enjoy a nice, long, five-day weekend if they use just two days of annual leave.
