Preston County Commission opposes proposed multi-state power line

KINGWOOD, (WBOY) — The Preston County Commission approved a resolution Wednesday opposing the Mid-Atlantic Resiliency Link project by the NextEra Energy company, which would build a 100-mile extra-high voltage transmission line to help 'strengthen the backbone of the energy grid.' The resolution does not stop the project, but rather is a formal move made by the Preston County Commission to show that it opposes it. Dozens of Preston County residents expressed their concerns over the proposed project, while others said they were for it. NextEra Energy has held several open houses in the past few weeks across West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia, where the proposed transmission line would go through. However, some Preston County residents, like Rachel Stevens, said questions still remain about the benefits to Preston County. 'They have answered a lot of my questions, but I still conclude at the end of it that this doesn't serve the people who are affected by the development of the project. That's my ultimate conclusion at this point,' Stevens said. These are the best schools in West Virginia, new 2025 report says 'There's just been nothing that has come to the forefront with dialogue with the Economic Development Authority that would even show anything great coming from this. There's no intention of dropping power into the Hazelton sub-station, there's nothing that could help promote economic development,' Preston County Commissioner Samantha Stone, who is a part of the Economic Development Authority, said during the meeting Commissioner Hunter Thomas was behind the resolution opposing the transmission line and worked on it. 'We're coming at this with opposition right at the right time…the filing deadline is Oct. 1, so if they're going to put the project through West Virginia, they're going to file and that's probably going to be the end of it. So we need to show our opposition and put up as much of a fight so they decide that West Virginia isn't the path of least resistance. West Virginia citizens don't want this going through our area, let's put it through PA, and PA should take the burden of the powerline because they're the ones creating the energy that gets to Virginia,' Thomas said. The commission received a letter from NextEra Energy with more details on what potential economic benefits would come to West Virginia and Preston County if the project goes through the area. In the letter, NextEra Energy's President Evan Yager said that based on the company's preliminary estimates, the line is 'expected to provide anywhere from $150,000,000 to $400,000,000 in incremental tax revenue to West Virginia.' Yager added that the range is dependent on the final route, which will need approval by the West Virginia Public Service Commission, but that if the route passes through Preston County, tax revenue is estimated to be between $50,000,000 and $100,000,000.' Despite the large monetary estimates, the letter does not specify a time period through which the tax revenue funds would come through, an omission that the commissioners focused on. Although the states and counties where the project is proposed to go through have been announced, it is still unknown what path the line will take. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Rachel Stevens' ex husband Alex Bourne is expecting his first child with new art dealer wife Lily - three years after split from S Club 7 singer

Rachel Stevens ' ex husband Alex Bourne is expecting his first child with his new wife Lily - three years after his split from the S Club 7 singer. The property mogul, 47, tied the knot with art dealer Lily, 31, at Lime Kiln lodges in East Sussex in February surrounded by their family and friends. And on Sunday, Lily took to Instagram in a shared post with her new hubby to announce their pregnancy. She shared a carousel of snaps from spring, but two included her growing baby bump. 'A new chapter,' she captioned the snaps - as her baby bump could be seen as she went for a stroll with a bunch of flowers. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. S Club star Rachel, 46, announced she had separated from her childhood sweetheart, Alex, in July 2022, just one month shy of their 13-year anniversary. Alex and Lily then got engaged last summer on Hampstead Heath after meeting earlier that year. Rachel and Alex's two daughters, Amelie, 12, and Minnie, nine, were both in attendance at the wedding and were both bridesmaids. Rachel herself has also found love with Dancing On Ice skater Brendyn Hatfield, going official in November 2023 after first being paired together on the ITV show. She did not appear to be in attendance at the wedding. Lily looked stunning in a bespoke lace gown in snaps shared to both of their Instagram accounts from the big day. They penned in the caption: 'A little more from our big day. Still on cloud ☁️ 9. 'Words can't begin to describe our happiness. Thank you to all of our family and friends for being there on our special day.' 'A new chapter,' she captioned the snaps - as her baby bump could be seen as she went for a stroll with a bunch of flowers Alex and Lily then got engaged last summer on Hampstead Heath after meeting earlier that year (seen announcing their engagement) Last June Alex gushed about his girlfriend at the time Lily and confessed that he would like to get married again one day. He said: 'I'm very grateful for what I have in life. My new partner is a wonderful person and she works in art. She's a beautiful person inside and out. 'I'm a very open-hearted person and I think love is an amazing thing. I've got a wonderful partner and incredible family and a business that I'm proud of. 'Why not get remarried one day? I'm a romantic and a passionate person and I think life is about loving.' He also opened-up for the first time about his 'terrifying' split from Rachel. Alex admitted that he struggled during the early stages of their separation, especially navigating co-parenting. But the former actor insisted that he and Rachel are now on good terms, having moved on with new partners, who their two daughters 'adore'. Alex, who is Co-founder and Director of London House, explained: 'It was terrifying at the start and it's not easy – and maybe I am making it all happy families - but we've handled it really well. I guess we are a blended family and I'm totally cool with it. 'I'm happily in a relationship and have a supportive partner, who my kids absolutely adore. Both myself and my ex-wife are in happy relationships and we are very supportive of each other. 'My children are such kind, loving people, who I am very proud of, so they made it easy to introduce them. They really, genuinely want us to be happy and we are.' The prime real estate agent, who co-founded prime real estate agency London House, added that the former couple had worked to 'avoid animosity' with introducing their new partners. He said: 'We were very grown up about the whole introducing partners thing. Everything has been handled with a lot of sensitivity and respect and that avoids animosity and unhappiness. 'Our children are everything and all we want is for them to be happy.' Alex's candidness came a week after Rachel lifted the lid on their separation during an appearance on BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour, comparing it to 'jumping off a cliff.' She admitted: 'It's a lot of navigating, especially with the girls because they've always been at the forefront. 'I'm very lucky, their dad is a great dad and we've always been so aligned with keeping them really safe in it and being really honest. 'We've had great advice on how to age-appropriately speak to them and help them feel safe in it all, because that was my biggest fear - how they are going to be in all of this.' She continued: 'You're changing your life. It's not only a marriage it's a family around it, it's your friendship groups, your home, your children. 'Changing your whole life, for me it felt like jumping off a cliff, like wow, it's the unknown. 'But I've always believed that we have to be happy, we have to be true to ourselves and it's not something you decide overnight, it's something that takes so much thought and questioning. 'I haven't talked about it a lot publicly because I'm so mindful of everyone involved.' The former couple were childhood sweethearts and reconnected in the mid-2000s when Rachel was launching her solo career and Alex was still trying to make it as an actor in Los Angeles. They got engaged in June 2008 after 18 months of dating and tied the knot at Claridge's in London the following year. The pair walked down the aisle to S Club 7 's hit Never Had A Dream Come True and her bandmates - Bradley McIntosh, Hannah Spearritt, Jo O'Meara, Jon Lee, Paul Cattermole and Tina Barrett - were there to watch them say 'I do'. Discussing her new relationship with Brendyn, Rachel went on: 'We've just been really mindful and thoughtful of everyone involved and it was a very slow process, but when you go through growth in your life, you change and your outlook on life changes. 'You realise this is what I need, this is what I want, this is what I deserve. And everything is new and it all just kind of happens.' She added: 'It all just evolves and it's not black and white, it's just an amazing growth experience.' Last year Rachel revealed how falling for Brendyn led to her 'messy' split from Alex, with their marriage already on the rocks. Speaking to The Sun she admitted: '[The split] was messy. I knew that we were growing, that I was growing apart, but I was in turmoil, because first of all my kids'. Rachel went on to recall how she felt telling now ex-husband Alex about Brendyn admitting: 'It was really scary, because I knew as soon as I said that, that was it.' It was in July 2022 that Rachel announced on Instagram that she had split from her husband of 12 years. Insisting they would be keeping things amicable, she wrote: 'I just wanted to share with you all that after time and consideration, the difficult decision has been made for Alex and I to separate. 'While we are no longer partners in marriage, we will remain partners in parenthood to our beautiful girls and continue with love and respect for each other. 'I feel so incredibly grateful for the life we built together and will now continue to be focused on moving forward united as a family.'

'Greatest hits': Ocean Colour Scene promise Britpop favourites at city gig

Ocean Colour Scene return to play a summer show in Southampton next month for the first time since their 90s Britpop heyday. Back then it was an appearance at one of the much missed Power in the Park events that reigned supreme in the city, attracting as many as 100,000 young revellers to Southampton Common to see the likes of Boyzone, Rachel Stevens and Peter Andre. Thirty years later the band, responsible for retro hits including The Day We Caught the Train, are one of the headliners for TK Presents Southampton Summer Sessions, a Guildhall Square concert series now in its second year. (Image: Brian Sweeney)READ MORE: Iconic music venue 'facing uncertainty' as campaign launched to secure future "I remember it well," says guitarist Steve Cradock. "It was very pop, but it was a lot of fun. "We become a bit of a hippy band when we play outdoors! Well that's the vibe I get anyway. "Our indoor shows are very intense, which is fantastic, but I love the freedom of playing outdoors. "People want to hear the stuff they know, so you can expect a greatest hits type thing, unlike our own shows where we can be a bit more self indulgent. People are there to hear stuff they know." Ocean Colour Scene will be supported on Friday June 27 by fellow 90s artists Cast and Echobelly at Summer Sessions, which also boasts appearances from McFly, Train, The Human League, Simple Minds, and Rag'n'Bone Man. Steve revealed the band, who have had 17 Top 40 singles and six Top Ten singles over the years, are considering releasing a new record, something they haven't done for more than a decade. He also plays guitar for Paul Weller and The Specials and has been producing the latest album for up and coming duo Burr Island. "It's always been all about the music for me. I must have been about 11 years old when it started to make a huge impression on me and it still really thrills me," Steve added. Tickets for the Ocean Colour Scene gig are on sale now from

Waking at night could be red flag of Liam Gallagher health issue

Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher has struggled with the health condition - as has Rachel Stevens Over half of us admit to regularly waking up in the middle of the night before struggling to fall back asleep. Now Brits are being warned it could be a sign you have a health condition that has affected Liam Gallagher and Rachel Stevens. A recent survey of 2,000 adults, commissioned by sleep technology company Simba, revealed that nearly a third grapple with the issue almost every single night – with women being more affected than men. Lisa Artis, Deputy CEO of the Sleep Charity, suggested that this common sleep habit could indicate a more serious health condition. She explained: "Waking up too early can point to an under or over active thyroid." ‌ Celebs like Liam Gallagher, Rachel Stevens and supermodel Gigi Hadid have all spoken out about their thyroid problems. Missy Elliott has opened up about her fight with Graves' disease, which leads to hyperthyroidism – an overactive thyroid condition. ‌ In 2022, Oasis legend Liam revealed his struggle with arthritis was down to a persistent thyroid problem known as Hashimoto's disease. That autoimmune condition of the thyroid gland sees the body's immune system start attacking it. If left untreated, it can cause the vocal cords to swell, leading to a hoarse voice. The thyroid, a small yet potent "butterfly-shaped" gland nestled in your neck, produces thyroid hormones - T4 (thyroxine) and T3 (triiodothyronine). These hormones help regulate your metabolism, heart rate, body temperature, and energy levels. When the thyroid doesn't function properly, it can become underactive - known as Hypothyroidism, or overactive - known as Hyperthyroidism. Both Hypothyroidism and Hyperthyroidism can impact sleep, but in different ways, reports Surrey Live. If you're struggling to fall or stay asleep, hyperthyroidism is usually the main culprit. On the other hand, if you're constantly feeling knackered, hypothyroidism is generally the prime suspect. Simba's research discovered that 18% feel worn out all the time. Thyroid hormones are crucial in maintaining our body clock, which regulates our sleep-wake cycle. Incorrect hormone levels can throw this rhythm off kilter, leading to early morning awakenings. Hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid) is more likely to cause you to stir during the night. This is because an excess of thyroid hormones can rev up your metabolism and stimulate your nervous system, leading to symptoms like anxiety, rapid heart rate, and restlessness. This can spike cortisol levels (the stress hormone), which may cause you to wake up earlier than usual, particularly in the morning. ‌ These factors can disrupt your sleep cycle, causing you to wake up frequently or too early in the morning. Artis clarifies, "Cortisol plays a role in waking you up in the morning, but if your thyroid is overactive, the stress response can become imbalanced, causing you to wake up too early and feel restless." In the UK, one in 20 people suffer from a thyroid problem, states research by the University of Aberdeen. According to the NHS, it's most prevalent among people aged 20 to 40. Women are at a tenfold greater risk of encountering thyroid issues compared to men, which underscores the necessity of early detection and intervention. Lisa explained: "What distinguishes waking early from thyroid issues from occasional bouts of early morning waking is the presence of other symptoms, such as persistent fatigue, unexplained weight gain or weight loss, and feeling excessively cold or overheating. Other symptoms can include irregular periods, brain fog, muscle aches, dry skin, and changes in appetite. ‌ "Thyroid symptoms usually develop slowly and gradually, and can be quite vague, often overlapping with other conditions, which can make it difficult to diagnose. A simple blood test can easily detect thyroid issues, so if you're experiencing these signs, it's worth consulting a doctor to rule out an under or over active thyroid. NHS symptoms of underactive thyroid The NHS website says common symptoms include: ‌ constipation putting on weight irregular or heavy periods if you have them feeling extremely tired (fatigue) a croaky (hoarse) voice dry skin, dry hair or hair loss low mood or depression difficulty concentrating or thinking clearly feeling cold more than usual Symptoms usually develop slowly and get worse over time, the NHS warns. NHS symptoms of overactive thyroid According to the NHS website, these are some of the symptoms to look for: hyperactivity – you may find it hard to stay still and have a lot of nervous energy persistent thirst feeling tired all the time muscle weakness diarrhoea needing to pee more often than usual sensitivity to heat itchiness nervousness, anxiety and irritability mood swings loss of interest in sex difficulty sleeping
