NEL, LRT disruptions: SBS Transit, LTA engineers to work overnight to restore power supply
Train operator SBS Transit says its engineers and those from the Land Transport Authority will be working overnight to restore power supply to the North East Line depot substation. This is after a power fault led to disruptions on Aug 12 across several stops along the North East Line, plus the entire Sengkang-Punggol LRT service. Earlier in the day, CNA's Rachel Teng and Muhammad Bahajjaj went out to three affected stations.

Singapore opens new facility for gallium nitride, an emerging semiconductor material
Singapore could be the next big innovator in fast chargers and electric cars, thanks to a new centre focused on gallium nitride, an emerging semiconductor material. Run by the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), the facility aims to power R&D to help firms and researchers turn tiny chips into high-impact tech for the global market. Gallium nitride can operate at higher voltages and generate less heat compared to traditional silicon semiconductors. Rachel Teng reports.

Man suffers gunshot wound while cycling in restricted area near SAF live-firing activity
A 42-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound about two kilometres away from a live-firing activity conducted by the Singapore Armed Forces yesterday. The police said the man was cycling with his friends near the Nee Soon 500m Open Range, a restricted area that the public does not have access to. He is in a stable condition at the National University Hospital. Under the Military Manoeuvres Act, the public is not allowed to enter gazetted areas meant for live-firing exercises. Investigations are ongoing and foul play is not suspected. Nee Soon Range has suspended live-firing activities as a precautionary measure. Rachel Teng reports.

NUH is world's first hospital to get recognition for greener practices
Singapore's National University Hospital has become the world's first hospital to receive an international certification for greener healthcare. It has been recognised for reducing plastic use, switching to materials safe for the environment and cutting energy use by 40 per cent in operating theatres. Rachel Teng looks at the efforts.
