‘Suits LA' Series Finale Explained After NBC Cancellations: Who Died? Were There Surprise Cameos?

Suits LA has come to an end after one season — but did the series finale go out on a high? During the Sunday, May 18, finale, Ted (Stephen Amell) partnered with his ex Samantha (Rachelle Goulding) to go up against a powerful — but dangerous — producer. This paved the way for Ted and Samantha's law firms to merge after their falling out earlier in the season. There was also progress in Rick (Bryan Greenberg) and Erica's (Lex Scott Davis) relationship after she finally decided to give him a chance. Elsewhere in the finale, flashbacks revealed how Ted's father contributed to his brother, Eddie's (Carson A. Egan), death. Suits LA's end is as satisfying as it could get after NBC pulled the plug on the show earlier this month. The network shocked fans by not renewing Lopez vs. Lopez, Night Court, Found, The Irrational and Suits LA. Breaking Down Some Major Similarities Between the Original 'Suits' and 'Suits LA' NBC has since renewed The Hunting Party and Brilliant Minds, but those are the only freshman shows that survived their inaugural seasons — in addition to Grosse Pointe Garden Society, which is still on the bubble. The tough decisions come after the network signed an 11-year deal with the NBA. Suits LA, which premiered in February, is a spinoff that was ordered by NBC in response to a resurgence in interest after the original Suits was added to Netflix and Peacock. Set in a fictional New York City corporate law firm, the original Suits followed associate lawyer Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams), who started working with Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht). The legal drama, which ran from 2011 to 2019, focused on Harvey and Mike winning lawsuits and closing cases while simultaneously hiding Mike's secret that he didn't go to law school. NBC's newest version starred Amell, Davis, Greenberg and Josh McDermitt as fictional attorneys in feuding Los Angeles firms. The short-lived spinoff brought back Macht and Rick Hoffman from the OG show before its series finale. Keep scrolling to find out where each character ended up: While initially refusing to work with Samantha on a potential class action lawsuit against a powerful Hollywood producer, the exes were able to bring him down. Ted got help from Elizabeth (Sofia Pernas), which didn't sit well with his other love interest Amanda (Maggie Grace). Amanda changed her mind once she realized Ted was going up against the producer because he nearly assaulted Rosalyn (Azita Ghanizada) when she worked for him years prior. Ted ended the season — and the series — on good terms with everyone in his life after agreeing to merge with Samantha and Stuart's (McDermitt) firm. Ted was also able to make peace with his past as he recalled how his brother, Eddie, died in an explosion that was meant for Ted. Their father knew — and chose to sacrifice Eddie — which led to his fallout with Ted. Suits LA wrapped up with Erica confronting her feelings for Rick. Despite previously shutting down a chance at them having a real future, Erica reconsidered after seeing how much he cared about her. Erica's last scene was her confronting Rick in his apartment before the couple officially got together. The Most Star-Studded Celebrity Appearances on NBC's 'Suits LA': From Sofia Pernas to Gabriel Macht The criminal defense lawyer continued to mend his friendship with Ted by using his position as the executor of Ted's dad's will to name a park after Eddie. Stuart then asked Ted if he wanted to merge their firms and the friends reminisced on getting to work together again soon. After turning down Dylan's (Victoria Justice) advances, Rick went against Erica in court for his client. Rick explained to Dylan that they couldn't give romance a try because he still cared for someone else. By the end of the series, Rick made his feelings for Erica clear and they finally gave their relationship a real try.

'Suits LA' star Azita Ghanizada teases new details about Ted Black, Roslyn's relationship revealed in finale

We're heading into the finale of Suits LA (Sundays at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on CTV, and the CTV app, streaming the next day on Crave), following the announcement that the Suits spinoff was cancelled ahead of the end of its first season. But with just one episode left, Azita Ghanizada, who plays Ted Black's (Stephen Amell) secretary Roslyn, teased where we leave the characters in the finale. "When the finale comes out, I think it's going to really show how their relationship is grounded," Ghanizada told Yahoo Canada. "And I think it's really powerful how Aaron Korsh and Genevieve Sparling and Jon Cowan, [all the writers], they really came up with a storyline for how these two have a dynamic that was forged at fire, that is based on trust and respect." "And I'm so excited for people to finally understand why she can talk to him the way that she does so candidly, and why he trusts her so much." Watch Suits LA on Crave As we saw in Episode 12, when Roslyn finds out Ted went to warn Samantha (Rachelle Goulding) that Erica (Lex Scott Davis) is looking to take Nicole Kidman as a client, Roslyn is particularly protective of the firm. "Roslyn doesn't care about that other law firm, she wants her law firm ... to fly and soar," Ghanizada said. "And so keeping everybody in the same place is really important." "There's some post-traumatic stress going on for her after being cut out of the merger. It's like nobody else can leave. And if you want to leave, get out. We don't want to be surprised by anything else anymore. ... I think there's a real strength and clarity for her that she's not going anywhere, and she expects everybody else to be at the same level." But while we know that the show is ending, Ghanizada did have some things in mind for how Roslyn could have been explored. "In my heart [I feel like] Roslyn has always been very connected to the entertainment industry, where Ted is coming from this prosecutor role in New York," Ghanizada said. "I would love to see more of [her] Hollywood story leaned into a bit." Much like her costar Stephen Amell, the in-person audition element of the casting process for Suits LA really appealed to Ghanizada. "I went in and it was just so alive," Ghanizada said. "They get to talk to you about the character. You don't really get that in the form of the self-tape world. It's a little bit colder." "I very much love this world. I love this world of high-paced, sexy, fast lawyers, and especially entertainment law. I mean, I've lived in Los Angeles for 20 years now, so I feel so connected to this kind of storytelling. And I was such a fan of every legal show that's ever existed. ... In my bones, I was like, 'Oh, this is for me.' And the role was written, 30 to 60, all ethnicities. They were not trying to recreate what they had. They were very openminded on who this was going to be. It just has to be the right personality, the right essence, ... a woman that can be the right hand to a powerhouse attorney." But Ghanizada also has an interesting connection to the original show Suits. While that show was being filmed in Toronto, Ghanizada was in the city shooting Alphas, which aired from 2011 to 2012. "After my audition with Aaron Korsh, he looked at my resume and he goes, 'Wait a minute. I think I met you in Toronto.' And I had, but I didn't bring it up, because you just kind of want to go with a blank slate," Ghanizada said. "But when Rick Hoffman came [on in Episode 12], we knew each other in Toronto, and he was like, 'This is so crazy, isn't it?'" "Being in Toronto at that time, we really relied on our actors and casts from other shows. It made the city feel more like our home away from home. ... I would go to ... hot yoga with some of the other cast members from other shows. And it's such a full circle moment."
