US Journalist Killed, Body Found In Container, Suspect Dies In Car Crash
A Las Vegas freelance journalist was allegedly killed and his body was packed in a container by his flatmate, police said. Days after Matthew Kelemen's body was discovered at a downtown establishment after police checked into a foul odour, his suspected murderer, Joseph Del Rivo, was also killed in a car crash in Utah. The Las Vegas Metro police found Kelemen's remains on Tuesday after receiving a report of a stench at a store on North 3rd Street in Downtown Las Vegas, roughly a week after the murder. Police said Del Rivo, 63, was killed in a high-speed pursuit which had nothing to do with the investigation. On Monday, Del Rivo himself dropped off the container, saying he or someone would pick it up in about a week. The following day, he allegedly hired a logistics firm to retrieve the container. Employees noticed a bad smell when the package was taken out and informed the authorities. Advertisement According to the Las Vegas coroner's office, the reason and cause for Kelemen's death are still under investigation. Detectives reportedly believe Kelemen most likely died from blunt force injuries. According to multiple accounts, Kelemen was a freelance journalist who contributed to Las Vegas Magazine. Mikki Zaferatos, Kelemen's sister, described the dramatic events unfolding "like horror-movie stuff." Advertisement Ms Zaferatos told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that her brother was preparing to vacate the room he rented in a house where the suspect, Del Rivo, also resided. According to her, Kelemen had only been there for roughly six months, but "he kept telling, my brother, what a strange guy this was." Advertisement Kelemen reportedly claimed that living there made him extremely uncomfortable. "The guy was a disgusting slob,' were his words," she added. Ms Zaferatos said she received a call from the Clark County coroner's office from her home in Apopka, Florida, at approximately 3 pm Eastern time on Wednesday. Advertisement Two days after discovering her brother's horrific murder, she told the publication, "I could not process what was going through my brain." According to Kelemen's Muck Rack page, his work has been published in magazines like The Daily Beast, Las Vegas Sun, and Las Vegas Weekly. He reviewed Janet Jackson's residency in his most recent piece, published after his death. He worked as a staff writer for the now-defunct publications City Life and 944 for several years. Advertisement Kelemen, who was unmarried, is survived by his older brothers, Steven and Vincent, and his younger sister, Mikki. The entire collection of Kelemen's writing from Las Vegas, which dates back to 2003, is preserved by the family.

PERKING UP: Recognizing that consumers are hungrier than ever for bigger bargains, Nordstrom Rack, the off-price division of Nordstrom Inc., is beefing up its loyalty program on June 3. 'We're excited to give our customers more reasons to shop with us through instant discounts, special promotions and early access to new arrivals and sales,' said Deniz Anders, executive vice president and chief marketing officer. 'These new benefits offer our customers more value and perks, and we can't wait for them to have additional ways to earn rewards when shopping their favorite brands at Nordstrom Rack.' Schwanen Is Proving to Be More Than Just a T-shirt Brand The enhanced program offers Rack customers immediate discounts, including an instant 5 percent off every purchase (except with a gift card) when using their Nordstrom credit card at Nordstrom Rack stores, on or on the Nordstrom Rack app. There is no spending threshold to receive the discount and customers can see their total savings on their receipt. Previously, cardholders at Rack would receive two to three points per dollar which would be a 2 to 3 percent value back in a Nordstrom note that could be used on future purchases. Under the new benefit, the 5 percent discount is a richer offer and provides immediate savings on each purchase, Nordstrom said. While points will no longer be earned on Rack purchases, points can still be earned at Nordstrom department stores and on Nordstrom Visa purchases made outside of Nordstrom, and customers can continue to redeem their Nordstrom Notes at both Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack. When customers use their Nordstrom Visa credit card, they'll earn two points per dollar when shopping select categories like groceries, gas, dining and streaming services. Customers will continue to earn one point per dollar on general retail, travel and everyday expenses when they use their Nordstrom Visa card. Press Release – Jesus Lizard The quintessential punk band of the 90's – the Jesus Lizard, returns to New Zealand shores for the first time in 27 years this October! Playing two exclusive shows only at Auckland's Tuning Fork and San Fran in Wellington on the 11th and 12th respectively. After initially calling it a day in 1999, the Jesus Lizard officially return full time to save us from the current state of musical mediocrity with their latest album, Rack. A blistering resurgence of the so-called 'noise rock' they helped define alongside contemporaries Big Black, Flipper, The Birthday Party, with their previous and most noted albums Head, Goat and Liar. For those of us who live in fear of the reunion album and subsequent tour, the Jesus Lizard thankfully display not only the same chaotic and dark nihilism of their earlier careers but also the maturity and seasoning of a band riding a wave of renewed and reinvigorated form. Once slated by famed engineer Steve Albini as 'the greatest band I've ever seen' the Jesus Lizard not only lived up to this lofty praise in their prime but continue to do so in their advancing years.
