Radhikka Madan: It's weird that certain male actors get fixed working hours, but female actors don't
Radhikka Madan is the latest celeb voice to join the debate around working hours in the film industry. Having worked on a number of films over the years such as Angrezi Medium, Pataakha, Shiddat and Sarfira, she confesses there's a difference in how male and female actors are able to set a certain working time. Radhikka Madan 'I have worked for 12-14 hours, but I have also seen work be achieved in eight hours for certain actors. Kaam utna hi hota hai, voh unn hours mein hi nikaal lete hain. Project ban bhi jaata hai, movie hit bhi ho jaati hai. I have seen how it works because people then are focused and prepped ki uss din yeh shot lena hai, sirf eight hours hain. If that would not have happened, I would have said maybe itne hours mein kaam nahi ho paata hai,' says the 30-year-old, who will be seen next in Subedaar alongside Anil Kapoor. Also read: Radhika Madan reveals she got Angrezi Medium role after possibly replacing a star kid The discussion began ever since reports trickled in about Deepika Padukone demanding eight working hours for the film Spirit directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. The collaboration eventually did not materialise. Ever since, many actors such as Ajay Devgn, Pankaj Tripathi, Rana Daggubati and more have voiced their opinion on the same. Radhika adds, 'If women are speaking out for that balance, and demanding a similar thing, it's not new. If the reasons are understood by both the parties, and respect is there, it can be worked out. It is really weird when certain male actors are given that privilege and women are not.' Burnout, which means both physical and mental exhaustion from doing something for longer hours, is also a reality for actors. Extended working hours contribute to it. Radhika says, 'I have experienced it, a lot of times. A few years ago, I was working in seven projects in a single year. I went into depression, I was really drained and took baggage of all my characters. I had to seek help. Burnout is real, I just want equality in the industry and no special treatment given to certain male actors.'

Radhikka Madan reveals she wanted to be a dancer, wished to introduce tap dancing in India
Actress Radhikka Madan hosted filmmaker Farah Khan at her Mumbai home for the director's vlog. During a heart-to-heart, the 'Angrezi Medium' actress revealed she wanted to become a professional dancer. Radhikka was heard saying, 'I am trained in Jazz, I am trained in ballet, I am trained in Modern dance. I wanted to introduce tap dancing in India. The way you feel on stage- you don't see anybody.' The 'Shiddat' star further recalled how she bagged her first television serial, 'Meri Aashiqui Tumse Hi'. She revealed that a casting person sent her a direct message for an audition in Delhi. 'The audition was taking place at a rather shady location, and at that time, I used to watch a lot of 'Crime Patrol'. So, I went with two of my friends, carrying hockey sticks. In Delhi, getting into a scuffle is not very uncommon,' Radhikka shared. 'I told my friends that I'll go in first, and you follow me from behind — and the next day, we'll be all over the front page of the newspaper. But when I entered, I realised there was an actual audition going on for a television show. I got all awkward and was about to leave, but they called my name'. To her surprise, Radhikka stated that she felt extremely safe in front of the camera - something similar to what she felt when she was on the stage. She added that she learned all about acting only during the course of 'Meri Aashiqui Tumse Hi'. Radhikka shared the screen with Shakti Arora in the serial, which ran successfully from 2014 to 2016 and became one of the highest TRP-rated shows on Colors. After establishing herself as a popular name in the television industry, Radhikka slowly moved towards films and became a part of projects such as 'Shiddat' and 'Angrezi Medium'. Up next, she will be seen alongside Anil Kapoor in Suresh Triveni's 'Subedaar'.

Radhikka Madan On How She Bagged Angrezi Medium Role: ‘I Was Adamant'
Last Updated: Radhikka Madan said that the makers of Angrezi Medium had locked another actress but she fought with them to give her a chance. Radhikka Madan is quite known for her role opposite the late Irrfan Khan in Angrezi Medium. Years after the film's release, Radhikka shared unknown insights with filmmaker Farah Khan during her recent vlog. Radhikka described it as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity she had to work hard for. The actress noted that while she stumbled upon the role by chance, she has put up a fight to at least get a chance to give an audition for the same. Recalling how she got the chance to work in Angrezi Medium. Radhikka said, 'I had signed my first film and had three months before it began. I didn't know how to kill time, so I started giving auditions just for fun, thinking, 'Who's going to cast me anyway?'" She added that the makers of Angrezi Medium had already locked another actress but she fought with them to give her a chance. Despite the initial doubts of the team, including director Homi Adajania, Radhikka's persistence worked. 'They told me, 'Ma'am, we're looking for a 17-year-old.' But I insisted. I was adamant. It irritated Homi and he finally said, 'Fine, take her audition'," she added. Did Radhikka Madan Replace A Star Kid? Radhika went on to say that the year had been dominated by star kids, and she didn't expect to get the role. During the vlog, Farah jokingly asked if a star kid had been locked before her but Radhikka mentioned she isn't aware. Farah then quipped, 'People keep saying star kids don't let outsiders work… but actually, Radhika is the real culprit. She stole a star kid's role." Moreover, Radhikka mentioned that she had auditioned with a fake Irrfan Khan as well and the makers had asked her to lose about 12 kgs to fit the role. Radhikka made her TV debut with Meri Aashiqui Tumse Hi, co-starring Shakti Arora, which aired from 2014 to 2016. Before making her Bollywood debut with Vishal Bhardwaj's Pataakha, she appeared in the international television shows Cinta di Pangkuan Himalaya and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 8. Radhikka has now gained critical acclaim for films such Shiddat, Kuttey and Sarfira. Her next film will be the action thriller Subedaar, directed by Suresh Triveni and starring Anil Kapoor. The film is currently under production. First Published: July 26, 2025, 11:25 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive.
