Pakistan's 9-member delegation leaves for New York on Monday

A nine-member parliamentary delegation led by former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will embark on a two-day visit to New York tomorrow (Monday), according to Radio Pakistan. The delegation will present Pakistan's perspective on the recent military clash with India and counter New Delhi's disinformation campaign about the conflict. Earlier, Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman and former Foreign Minister, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari said that Pakistan seeks peace but stressed that India's 'new normal' of brinkmanship—such as the 2019 near-war escalation—endangers millions. New Delhi's narrative relies on lies: Bilawal He also warned that unresolved disputes risk triggering a catastrophic nuclear conflict between Pakistan and India. Speaking outside the Foreign Office after receiving a briefing, he added that the international community must understand: that two nuclear-armed rivals cannot afford miscalculations. Islamabad insists it is not the aggressor and will present evidence to foreign governments that Delhi's narrative relies on 'lies.' It Is worth mentioning here that Pakistan had announced a major diplomatic push to counter what it calls India's 'aggressive propaganda' following recent military tensions. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formed a committee under former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari to coordinate with the world about Indian aggressive postures and hegemonic designs towards Pakistan. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has tasked Bilawal with leading a high-profile delegation—including senior politicians and diplomats like Sherry Rehman, Hina Rabbani Khar, and ex-envoys Jalil Abbas Jilani and TehminaJanjua—to brief global powers on Kashmir, terrorism, and the Indus Waters Treaty. The team will plead that Delhi's actions, including what Pakistan claims are the 'weaponization' of water resources, are destabilising the region.

'We must strive to win back the people who were misled [by terrorists] to the wrong track. If there are any grievances, they should be resolved through dialogue in the spirit of brotherhood,' he said while referring to chronic grievances in the dirt-poor province which have been exploited by Baloch terrorist groups to promote their violent narrative. The prime minister was addressing a grand jirga in Quetta on Saturday which brought together tribal elders, lawmakers, and key stakeholders for consultations aimed at resolving long-standing issues, particularly those related to security and development. 'The bloodthirsty terrorists, who are against the progress prosperity of Pakistan, are carrying out heinous acts of terrorism at the behest of foreign elements,' Premier Shehbaz said while referring to India. 'They must be stopped. We all must defeat their nefarious designs. If there are shortcomings in our response, these could be addressed with your guidance,' he told the jirga participants. 'All provinces are like brothers and will equally share resources of the country,' PM Shehbaz said, adding that the federal government was spending Rs70 billion on a solarisation project in Balochistan. Similarly, Rs150 billion would be diverted for building N25 highway, which is commonly referred to as the 'bloody highway' due to its precarious condition. In the past, Rs2 billion was allocated for a cardiac hospital in Balochistan, he added. The prime minister also recalled that Punjab had agreed to give part of its share from the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award to Balochistan in view of its development needs as the province is the largest in terms of area. 'In today's value, the funds diverted to Balochistan amount to Rs160 billion,' he explained. Pakistan and Afghanistan have had a strained relationship since the Taliban administration took power after the withdrawal of US-led NATO forces. Islamabad says that Islamist militants who launch attacks inside Pakistan use Afghan soil. Kabul denies this, saying such militancy is Pakistan's domestic problem to handle. No country has formally recognised the Taliban administration since it took power, with foreign powers calling for it to change course on women's rights. Pakistan becomes the fourth country after China, UAE and Uzbekistan to designate an ambassador to Kabul. Although those governments say they have not formally recognised the Taliban's government, diplomats and experts say that having an ambassador officially present their credentials represents a step towards recognition.
