Tottenham set to sign Japan international defender Kota Takai

Tottenham Hotspur are set to sign defender Kota Takai from Kawasaki Frontale. Club sources indicate that an agreement for the 20-year-old Japan international has been reached for £5million ($6.8m, 1billion Japanese yen), which would represent a record fee for a player in the J League — the top division of Japanese football — moving overseas. Advertisement Takai, who is into the final six months of his contract at Kawasaki Frontale, has played 28 times at club level in 2025 and has also made four appearances for Japan. Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven established themselves as the first choice central defensive pairing at Spurs under previous head coach Ange Postecoglou, while Radu Dragusin and Kevin Danso are the other recognised centre-backs in the squad. However, multiple injury setbacks in 2024- 25 meant Archie Gray, a midfielder by trade, was deployed in the centre of defence. Danso and Mathys Tel, who both arrived on loan deals from Lens and Bayern Munich respectively in January, have each made their moves to Spurs permanent this summer, while teenage defender Luka Vuskovic will join Spurs from Hajduk Split after a deal was agreed in 2023. Europa League final: Tottenham WAGs pictured flying out to Bilbao ahead of winner-takes-all tie against Man United

Tottenham players' WAGs were pictured flying out to Bilbao ahead of the Europa League final against Manchester United on Wednesday night. A picture was posted to Instagram by Ioana Stan, the girlfriend of Spurs defender Radu Dragusin, before she jetted off to the Spanish city to support the Lilywhites. While she was spotted jetting off to the Basque Country to cheer on Ange Postecoglou 's men, she will have to contend with her partner being unavailable for the crunch encounter. Ioana joined Dragusin in London after he signed for Spurs mid-way through last season in the January transfer window. She has previously posted pictures of her adjusting to life in England by playing the Tottenham Monopoly board game. An aspiring architect who has been studying at university, Ioana has been featured on Dragusin's Instagram page since 2021. He has been absent since tearing his ACL in the earlier rounds of the competition against Elfsborg. Dragusin had started all of Tottenham's previous 14 Premier League games before suffering that setback earlier on in the season. He had also started 21 out of 22 games for Spurs in all competitions between October 30 and January 26, coming on after 15 minutes in the other. The game has an added layer of significance for both United and Spurs given that only the winner of the tie can secure Champions League football next season. With the two teams sitting in 16th and 17th place in the Premier League respectively, one of them will miss out entirely on European football in 2025-26. However, the winner of the Europa League is automatically granted entry into Europe's elite club competition for the following campaign. Ahead of the game, a supercomputer has predicted which side will come out on top in the contest. The winner was generated by simulating the entire competition 1,000 times. For each simulation, the code recorded where each team finished in the table and their likelihood of winning the trophy after each stage. The results were then converted into percentages, showing the probability of each team finishing in each position in the league.

Radu Dragusin will do everything he can for ‘smooth recovery' after knee surgery

Tottenham defender Radu Dragusin is determined to come back stronger following surgery to repair anterior cruciate ligament damage. The Romanian sustained a serious knee injury during the Europa League win against Elfsborg on January 30, and is set for a lengthy spell of rehabilitation. After having an operation on Tuesday morning, the 23-year-old posted a picture of himself on social media from his hospital bed at the start of a long road back to fitness. 'This morning, I successfully got through the surgery, which went perfectly. I am grateful to the entire medical team for their care and professionalism,' Dragusin wrote on Instagram. 'At the same time, I am thankful for all the messages of encouragement and your continuous support. It's wonderful to feel this kind of support. 'I will do everything I can to ensure a smooth recovery and come back stronger as soon as possible.' Dragusin, signed from Genoa for £25million in January last year, has made a total of 28 appearances for Ange Postecoglou's side this season, including 14 Premier League starts. The loss of Dragusin was the latest in a long injury list for the under-pressure Spurs boss, who has seen his side now exit the Carabao Cup and FA Cup in the space of 72 hours. Spurs sit 14th in the Premier League ahead of their next game at home to Manchester United on Sunday, with Europe now the sole focus for Postecoglou to deliver a trophy in his second season.
