Bronx BMW driver arrested for fatally striking 75-year-old man walking home from mosque
A BMW driver has been arrested after a four-month investigation for fatally striking a 75-year-old Bronx man walking home from mosque, police said Thursday.
Rafael Delgado, 61, was charged Wednesday with reckless endangerment, failure to yield and failure to exercise due care, cops said.
Victim Wahid Miah had the right of way as he crossed Wood Ave. and White Plains Road in Parkchester about 1:20 p.m. Feb. 3.
But Delgado, making a left turn in his 2023 BMW SUV to head south on White Plains Road, slammed into Miah, police said.
Video obtained by News 12 The Bronx shows Miah, putting his hands out trying to get the driver to stop moments before he was struck. He was less than half a mile from home when he was hit.
Medics rushed Miah to Jacobi Medical Center but he could not be saved.
'The accident is so terrible,' Miah's neighbor, Shameem Ahmed, told News 12 at the time. 'I've never seen anything like this in my life.'
'The community is really shocked and last night we went to his house to say sympathy to his family and all community people,' Ahmed added.
Delgado remained at the scene but was not initially charged.
After cops completed their investigation this week, Delgado was arrested and given a desk appearance ticket to appear in court at a later date, police said. He lives in Soundview, according to cops.
