Egg prices stable after subsidy removal in Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR: Checks reveal no major price increases for eggs following the restructuring of subsidies. The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living's Price Catcher app indicates stable prices for Grade A, B, and C eggs, ranging from RM10.40 to RM12.60 in supermarkets. Rafiah Rahmat, a consumer in Johor, expressed hope that the subsidy removal would not lead to excessive price hikes. 'We must view the government's decision positively. As consumers, we hope prices remain reasonable, quality is maintained, and supply stays sufficient,' he said. Johor's KPDN director, Lilis Saslinda Pornomo, confirmed no complaints of unreasonable price hikes have been received, with regular monitoring ongoing. In Kota Bharu, Kelantan, egg prices remain between RM11.50 and RM15 per tray, depending on grade. Retailer Hasnah Saad noted that existing stock is still being sold at current prices, though suppliers have warned of possible increases. 'If prices rise, we'll adjust accordingly,' she said, adding that supply remains stable despite higher demand. Mohd Farid Aziz, a trader in Pasir Tumboh, echoed readiness for potential price adjustments. Meanwhile, consumer Mohd Azrul Nasir urged proactive government measures to ensure stable supply and affordability. Kedah Consumer Association president Mohd Yusrizal Yusoff called for stricter monitoring to prevent sudden price spikes, reminding consumers of protections under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2010. The subsidy removal, effective August 1, aims to transition to targeted assistance for those in need. - Bernama

Roaring jets, fiery display wow spectators at Lima'25 air show rehearsal
LANGKAWI: The thunderous roar of fighter jets, bomb-like explosions, and columns of smoke billowing into the sky drew gasps from hundreds of spectators during the Royal Malaysian Air Force's (RMAF) rehearsal at Langkawi International Airport (LTAL) today. The aerial manoeuvres were part of the opening act for the upcoming Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (Lima'25). Among the onlookers was 44-year-old Rafiah Rahmat, who described the experience as both exhilarating and terrifying. "My whole body shook, and my heart pounded the moment I heard the explosions, followed by a rush of heat from the flames and thick smoke rising skyward," she said. Rafiah, who watched the display from Kampung Padang Wahid, a village near the airport, said this was her fourth time witnessing the rehearsal. "Seeing it up close is thrilling, though at times frightening. The sound of low-flying jets, helicopters shooting upwards before diving sharply, and the sudden explosions made it feel like stepping into a war zone. "But it is an unforgettable experience, one that money cannot buy. You have to be there to feel it, especially with the precision and discipline shown by the RMAF," she said. She was accompanied by her two children, aged 11 and 13. Abidin Abdul Ghani, 32, described the experience as an unforgettable moment, especially for the younger crowd. "I hope this open space in the village remains accessible until Lima'25 concludes. "It is the best place to really feel the intensity of the explosions and the heat from the flames," he said. Checks at the site found more than 1,000 people had gathered as early as 7.30am to secure spots about 100 metres from the pyrotechnic display area. Six recommended vantage points have been identified for the public to enjoy the Lima'25 air shows, including Pantai Hujung LTAL, Kampung Padang Wahid and Bukit Pemandangan Indah. Other popular viewing locations include the Malaysia Airports staff quarters, the front of Kolej Komuniti Langkawi and the vicinity of the Langkawi Police Training Centre.
