Rage Against the Machine guitarist rips Trump over president's feud with Bruce Springsteen in fiery rant

Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello had some choice words for President Donald Trump at a concert on Sunday. Rolling Stone reported that during his performance at the Boston Calling Music Festival, the famous musician unloaded on Trump in response to the president's recent spat with classic rock legend Bruce Springsteen. "Bruce is going after Trump because Bruce, his whole life, he's been about truth, justice, democracy, equality," Morello said onstage, adding, "And Trump is mad at him because Bruce draws a bigger audience. F---that guy." The feud between Trump and Springsteen began nearly two weeks ago when the artist accused the president of treason during a concert in Manchester, England. "The mighty E Street Band is here tonight to call upon the righteous power of art, of music, of rock and roll in dangerous times. In my home, the America I love, the America I've written about, that has been a beacon of hope and liberty for 250 years, is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent and treasonous administration," Springsteen said, drawing applause from his audience. Two days later, Trump slammed Springsteen in a Truth Social post, stating, "I see that Highly Overrated Bruce Springsteen goes to a Foreign Country to speak badly about the President of the United States. Never liked him, never liked his music, or his Radical Left Politics and, importantly, he's not a talented guy — Just a pushy, obnoxious JERK, who fervently supported Crooked Joe Biden, a mentally incompetent FOOL, and our WORST EVER President, who came close to destroying our Country." The background for Morello's performance last weekend also included a giant "F--- Trump" sign surrounded by several other smaller ones featuring the same words. The background art also referred to Trump as "HATER IN CHIEF." There was also an image that appeared to have Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin's faces morphed together into one person. During his set, Morello introduced his cover of Woody Guthrie's song "This Land Is Your Land" with an anti-authoritarian, anti-billionaire message seemingly aimed at the commander-in-chief. "It's a beautiful song, but they censored out all the verses that explain what the song is really about. This is a revolutionary anthem. Woody Guthrie knew that music could be… an uplifting, unifying, transcendent thing; a defensive shield, and a weapon for change. Authoritarians and billionaires think this country belongs to them. Woody Guthrie knew that this land is yours," he said. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Rocker Rages Against Trump for Attacking Bruce Springsteen

Rage Against The Machine's Tom Morello used his Boston Calling Music Festival set to slam Donald Trump amid the president's ongoing beef with Bruce Springsteen, telling the crowd 'F--- that guy,' as he performed in front of a 'F--- Trump' backdrop, reports The hyper-political guitarist told the crowd Monday that Trump was only 'mad' at Springsteen because the rock icon 'draws a bigger audience.' Springsteen and Trump have been in a back-and-forth that began when the rocker called out the president for 'persecuting people for their right to free speech and voicing their dissent' and 'taking sadistic pleasure in the pain they inflict on loyal American workers,' among other things. Trump responded with several long-winded rants of his own, calling Springsteen a 'dried up prune' and threatening a 'major' investigation into whether Springsteen, Beyoncé, and others were paid to make appearances at Kamala Harris' fundraisers. He later posted a doctored video of himself hitting Springsteen with a golf ball. Springsteen hasn't backed down from the fight, continuing to rant against Trump during his 'The Land of Hopes and Dreams' tour and then releasing an EP with his most scathing anti-Trump remarks, cementing his disdain for the president into music history. Morello backed his fellow rocker in the ongoing beef on Monday. 'Bruce is going after Trump because Bruce, his whole life, he's been about truth, justice, democracy, equality,' he said during his Boston Calling set, before adding, 'F--- that guy,' per To make it more clear, Morello debuted a backdrop adorned with 'F--- Trump' paraphernalia as he began his 2021 track, 'Let's Get the Party Started.' He later displayed a 'F--- I.C.E.' sticker on the back of his guitar. Morello also used part of his hour-long set to shout out Harvard University, his alma mater, in its legal battle with the president, as he praised the institution for offering a free course on 'basic U.S. government, understanding the Constitution, and how to recognize a dictatorship takeover of your country.' Morello's sharp rebukes of Trump come after Neil Young jumped into the fray to defend Springsteen, telling Trump, 'STOP THINKING ABOUT WHAT ROCKERS ARE SAYING. Think about saving America from the mess you made.' He added, 'I am not scared of you. Neither are the rest of us.'

'Witness our lives uncensored, in a never-before-seen way':Judas Priest documentary co-directed by Tom Morello in the works

A Judas Priest documentary helmed by Rage Against The Machine's Tom Morello is on the way. 'The Ballad Of Judas Priest' - from Sony Music Vision - will be co-directed by Morello and Sam Dunn ('Metal: A Headbanger's Journey'). A release date is not known at this time. Rob Halford and co told Variety: 'We have lived and breathed metal for over five decades, and finally in this documentary we are summoning our congregation to officially witness our lives uncensored, in a never-before-seen way…the cassock comes off, revealing Priest in all its metal glory!' Morello and Dunn added: 'Tracing their incredible 50-year journey, this film will capture how Judas Priest both defined the sound and look of metal, but also made it a more inclusive place along the way. We are grateful to the band for allowing us such intimate, unfiltered access to their lives and look forward to bringing this film to the metal masses around the world.' Meanwhile, frontman Halford previously admitted he felt an "enormous feeling of freedom" when he came out as gay on MTV in 1998. The heavy metal legend never planned to announce to the world that he was homosexual when he casually referred to himself as a "gay man" during the Q A and he is still unsure whether he would have publicly come out if he had decided to make a more grandiose statement. In an interview with Apple Music's Hattie Collins in 2021, he said: "It was one of those things where I'm at MTV in New York, I'm talking about a project that I was working on called 'Two', with myself and John 5, the amazing guitar player. I was doing the rounds in New York City and ended up at MTV talking about this project. And in the casual course of the conversation, we were talking about the overall music, and the direction, and the feelings. And I said something to the effect of, 'Well, speaking as a gay man, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.' And then I heard the producer's clipboard bounce on the floor. It was one of those gay sharp intakes, 'Oh my God, he's come out.' 'And so that was it. So it was very simple. I think if I'd … I still say today, if I'd have really thought this through, like today's the day I'm going to come out, maybe I even wouldn't … maybe I may not have come out per se, because it's still a big moment for so many of us, with a close friend, with someone at school, with mum and dad, with whomever, to actually say, 'Hey, I'm a gay guy or I'm a gay girl.' It's just a big, big deal. It's just a glorious, glorious moment. 'So there I was, and I did the interview, and then I walked back to the hotel, and went back to my room, and go well, that's it, now everybody knows. And then, of course, it hit the news wires and that was that. 'So wow, it was just this enormous feeling of freedom, and the pressure was gone, and there's no more talking behind your back because you have all this ammunition of power as a gay person now, as an out gay person. Nothing can hurt you because this is it. You can't throw insults, you can't throw rumours, you can't say anything negative about me because I am who I am. So that's my wonderful memory of my great coming out day.' The 'Breaking The Law' rocker also opened up on the effect hiding his sexuality had on his mental health as the band achieved success in the 1970s and 1980s. Halford, 70, recalled how he would lock himself away in his hotel room after the band had played live because he was worried about being outed before he came out to his parents and bandmates. He said: "As a youngish guy in a thriving heavy metal band, it was difficult because I was in that place where a lot of us protected everybody else. '[I thought] 'Oh, I better not come out because it will upset my mum and dad. I hadn't better come out because it will upset my friends, I hadn't better come out because it'll upset my band and my fans and record company. 'I had all that riding on my shoulders through those moments of Priest when we were gaining headway, particularly in America. It was difficult y'know, I went back to my room and turned on the TV and that was it. 'I couldn't go to clubs, I couldn't go to bars because it was suggested, 'Don't do that, because paparazzi might get you and we'll have to do the cover story' and all this innuendo. 'Mentally, on top of being the gay man in the closet, I had all these extra pieces piled onto my life at that time.'

Celebrity food travels: Class 95 DJ and musician Rai's top places to eat in Ho Chi Minh City

Musician and Class 95 DJ Rai Kannu's love for Ho Chi Minh City is evident in the fact that he's visited the Vietnamese metropolis four times since pandemic travel restrictions were lifted. He's even learned to say 'Happy new year' in Vietnamese. In this city that's 'a proportionate mix of order and chaos', 'I love that you get the best of all worlds there, from streetside fare and humble food shops to more sophisticated, French-influenced offerings,' he said. He's also played gigs here, where he discovered an audience comprising an eclectic mix of Vietnamese youths who love grunge music and teachers from all over the world. 'We did have a few people up on the tables of Yoko Cafe, banging their heads fervently to our encore track by Rage Against The Machine,' he recalled. Off-work, the joy of travel for Rai is in long walks, soaking in the culture and dining where the locals do. Although he's 'one those who can be categorised under 'eats to live',' he said, 'I do enjoy quality food and drink. I'd like to think I know what is good and what is not.' For affordable accommodation, he recommends Hammock Hotel, where 'the rooms are chic and cosy. They have beds – you don't need to sleep in the hammocks – but what I loved about it was the 24-hour pantry with a free flow of drinks all stocked up in a fridge, beer included.' His travel tip for discovering the city is to 'break your journey up into parts. It's no point exploring different districts far apart from each other in a short span of time. Plonk yourself somewhere – District 1 is a good start – and walk your way to every nook and cranny you can find. You'll uncover your own little gem collection of banh mi, pho and egg coffee, as well as art, history and culture.' Here are his top recommendations for food and drink in Ho Chi Minh City. BUN THIT NUONG CHA GIO I've been here regularly since I first discovered it, and no, there is no menu. You just order according to how many bowls you want. Bun thịt nuong is a popular Vietnamese dish of cold rice vermicelli topped with grilled pork and fresh herbs like basil, mint and veggies. The bun thit is cooked streetside, beneath a rustic building, and you sit across the road, along an uneven pavement, on plastic chairs with legs half sawn off. Quite like squatting with some support. I don't know if it helps the crowd to move along since one can't sit back and relax, but the pork is sublime and you don't really need to find another spot to have this dish. PHU VUONG PHO Simple. Basic. Hearty. That's all you need to look for when having one of Vietnam's most popular offerings. I always have the mixed bowl, because a pho is not a pho unless you have everything in it, tripe included. A no-frills place with reasonably priced pho. HUM GARDEN I found this spot because I was planning for a more elegant date night – a place with dim lights, clean food and good service. I highly endorse Hum Garden especially when you are looking for vegetarian fare that is fresh and cooked to traditional tastes, containing a slightly modern twist. All the veggies are sourced directly from farmers too. I'd five-star this place in a heartbeat because it fulfilled all that I was looking for, and greens never tasted better. One of my favourites was the steamed brown rice with purple yam, lotus seeds and peas. Even something as simple as stir-fried chayote with peanuts was mind-blowing! YOKO CAFE I am particularly biased to Yoko Cafe because I have performed a few times there with my grunge tribute band DYRT, and done some open mic sessions as well. Simply put, it's a dive bar with music. That's probably the best way to describe the place. The decor reminds me of the legendary Crazy Elephant at Clarke Quay – rustic and woody with a mix of high and low tables and chairs. From what I know, they don't have a particular regular band but instead they do lots of showcases, open mics and jams. As a musician, I'm glad they know how to set up a good sound system, and coming from the frontman of a band playing 90s grunge, that helps a lot! One for those who enjoy the gritty, indie singer-songwriter type feels. Primary objective: Drink beer, watch bands. KRYSTALINI HIDDEN COCKTAIL BAR Getting here is a mini adventure in itself. It's located in a more commercial area of the city, but the hunt to find the place is almost like marching up People's Park Complex in Chinatown, and getting lost while you're at it. The musty smells of an old stairwell accompany your trek to Krystalini, but once you're there, it's a small, plush, yet cosy little hideout with friendly bar staff ready to make you your fix or fixes for the night. I wanted something with a bit of a kick in the butt so I went for a Golden Glow, which had bourbon, Fireball whisky, amaretto, lime juice, Angostura bitters and a touch of cinnamon. Spiced, tasty and definitely strong enough.

Rage Against The Machine Charts One Of The Biggest New Albums Of The Week

Rage Against the Machine's Live On Tour 1993 debuts at No. 3 on the U.K.'s Rock & Metal Albums ... More chart, earning the band its seventh top 10 on that tally. Rage Against The Machine, Zack De La Rocha, Tim Commerford, Brad Wilk, Tom Morello, Vaartkapoen (VK), Brussels, Belgium, 06/02/1993. (Photo by) It's a busy week on the charts — especially in the United States and the United Kingdom — and much of that activity can be traced back to one annual event. Record Store Day just passed, and as is tradition, dozens of exclusive releases became available only in independent music shops. Some of the biggest names in rock, pop, hip-hop, and beyond dropped collectibles, rarities, and reissues. In the U.K., a beloved band that hasn't shared a new full-length in more than a decade earns a welcome return to several tallies, thanks to a high-profile release. Rage Against the Machine scores a solid debut this frame with Live On Tour 1993, a special project that launched as part of Record Store Day. In the U.K., the double LP opens on four tallies, led by an impressive placement on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart, where it starts at No. 3. The collection also breaks into the top 40 on the Official Vinyl Albums chart, beginning its run at No. 35. While it narrowly misses that tier on a pair of other rosters, Live On Tour 1993 still performs well across the board. It lands at No. 42 on the Official Physical Albums list and No. 44 on the Official Albums Sales chart. Live On Tour 1993 was one of the most visible releases tied to this year's Record Store Day, and that visibility translated into real sales. The project was pressed in a run of 15,000 copies, one of the largest batches among the exclusives. The set includes 10 tracks recorded during the band's first-ever world tour, with live renditions pulled from shows in cities like Washington D.C., Atlanta, Paris, Toronto, Chicago, and more. That trek played a pivotal role in helping Rage Against the Machine go from rising rock group to global phenomenon. Among the rock acts that debut on the charts following Record Store Day, Rage Against the Machine stands out as one of the most successful. Live On Tour 1993 ends up as the third-highest debut on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart. The only two new titles to outperform it this week come from Those Damn Crows and Epica. Rage Against the Machine has now landed seven top 10 entries on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart. Only two of the group's releases that have made it to the ranking failed to reach that tier. Live On Tour 1993 marks the group's seventh appearance on the Official Physical Albums list and its third on both the Official Albums Sales and Official Vinyl Albums rankings. The outfit has collected as many top 10s on the rock-only roster as total placements on any other tally on which the latest from the pioneering outfit debuts this time around.
