Khadakwasla circle may get 10 TMC water from Mulshi

Pune: Technical studies and surveys to bring around 10 TMC water from Mulshi dam to the Khadakwasla circle will be expedited according to a decision taken during a meeting held under the chairmanship of state water resources minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil in Mumbai on Wednesday. The proposal is crucial since it would help meet the increasing water demand of the city and rural areas. Daund MLA Rahul Kul, who attended the meeting, said the discussion ended on a positive note. "Nearly 7 TMC to 11 TMC water can be lifted from Mulshi in the initial phase. The minister directed officials to initiate all necessary steps to give the plan a shot in the arm," he said. "Water from Mulshi dam will have to be utilised for Pune district in the coming years. Water consumption from the four dams in Khadakwasla circle has increased in areas under Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), affecting farming activities and the populace in rural regions. The situation may become critical in the future. Making arrangements to bring in water from Mulshi must not be delayed. However, the said proposal will undergo various technical and administrative procedures, besides clearance from the state water resources regulatory authority and the state govt," Kul added. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like A Teaspoon Before Bed Burns Body Fat - Fit Into Your Clothes Again! gofitlifeguide Click Here Undo PMC officials said they have already approached the state govt. A state-appointed expert committee has recommended that Mulshi water can be brought to the city and that the proposal should not be delayed further. In the last week of July, civic officials had put forth the same demand during a meeting held by Vikhe Patil at PMC headquarters to discuss water-related issues. The minister had told reporters that the state govt was positive towards granting 10 TMC water from Mulshi to the city and rural areas. He also mentioned that PMC must take efforts to reduce water leakage and wastage. Sources from the irrigation department said teams are already working on the technical aspects of the proposal. "It is a major challenge to bring water from Mulshi to Khadakwasla circle. We are conducting surveys and studies to make it possible. All surveys and reports will be completed on priority. Mulshi water is being used for power generation, at present," they added. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
