Ashish Nehra erupts at umpires over post-rain delay during MI vs GT, Rahul Tewatia storms into field in heated argument

Gujarat Titans pulled off one of the most dramatic wins of the IPL 2025 season in a rain-hit thriller at the Wankhede, but not before head coach Ashish Nehra and finisher Rahul Tewatia lashed out in frustration at the umpires over delay tactics following the second rain break. As the clock ticked past midnight, what should have been a restart around 12:09 AM kept getting pushed, from 12:25 AM to finally 12:30 AM, despite the rain having clearly stopped. Rahul Tewatia argues with umpire alongside Ashish Nehra(X) It was enough to leave Nehra fuming on the sidelines while Tewatia, already under pressure to finish the job, also couldn't hide his anger. Gujarat Titans' assistant coach Parthiv Patel, however, insisted that the ground staff did a phenomenal job ensuring the match achieved a proper outcome. 'The groundsmen did well to give us that kind of game. When you are behind in the Duckworth-Lewis method, you want to give yourself a chance. We knew it would be a one-over game at max, and we wanted to give ourselves a chance,' said Parthiv. A thrilling finish With the Gujarat Titans set a revised target of 147 in 19 overs via the DLS method, they needed 15 runs off the final over. Tewatia showed nerves of steel, cracking Deepak Chahar for a boundary first up. Gerald Coetzee then walloped a six, while a no-ball from Chahar allowed GT to sneak in two more runs. A single followed, levelling the scores with two balls to go. Then, chaos struck again. Coetzee was dismissed, and with one needed off one, a misfield denied MI a run-out at the non-striker's end. The Titans clinched the win by three wickets, breaking MI's six-match winning streak and soaring to the top of the table. Earlier, MI looked to have pulled the game back courtesy Jasprit Bumrah's fiery spell that blew away Shubman Gill and Shahrukh Khan, triggering panic in the GT camp. Trent Boult and Ashwani Kumar added key wickets to leave Mumbai seemingly cruising. But in a game defined by dramatic turns, GT held their nerves under pressure to go past the finishing line.

Ashish Nehra, Rahul Tewatia Furious With Umpires After Rain Delay During MI vs GT. Reason Is...

Ashish Nehra was a furious man during his team Gujarat Titans' IPL 2025 match against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday. The match in Mumbai saw two rain disruptions. It was the second rain stoppage, just before midnight, that had everyone at the edge of their seats. The restart time was changed from 12:09am to 12:25am to 12:30am (Wednesday). Nehra was furious as umpires were taking a long time to restart the game even when the rain appeared to have stopped. GT batter Rahul Tewatia was also furious. Rain go #MIvGT #MIvsGT — its cinema (@iitscinema) May 6, 2025 In a match in which fortunes swung like a pendulum in between two rain breaks, Mumbai Indians fought back brilliantly to take the upper hand but Gujarat Titans hammered 15 runs in a one over to chase the re-adjusted target of 147 in 19 overs to win the match by three wickets via DLS method at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday. With the match ending past midnight, the players returned to the middle after 12:25 AM following the second rain break for one over, with the target for Gujarat Titans set at 147. With Titans needing 15 runs off six balls to win, Rahul Tewatia struck Deepak Chahar for four, and Gerald Coetzee hammered a six. Chahar bowled a no-ball off which they picked up a double, and Tewatia scored a single off the fourth ball. To add another twist to the tale, with scores levelled, Chahar had Coetzee out and with one needed, he failed to run out at the non-striker's end. Gujarat Titans won the match and surged to the top of the points table and ending Mumbai Indians' run of six wins in a row. Former champions Gujarat Titans capped off a superb bowling effort with a clinical batting performance midway through the match and looked on course for victory. But in a dramatic turn of events, Jasprit Bumrah hauled Mumbai Indians back into the game with a brilliant hostile spell, claiming the crucial wickets of Shubman Gill and Shahrukh Khan. Trent Boult and Ashwani Kumar also struck vital blows, and Mumbai Indians were cruising and bruising.

IPL 2025: Gujarat Titans beat Mumbai Indians - and rain

Gujarat Titans beat Mumbai Indians - and the rain - to snatch a remarkable final-ball victory and go top of the Indian Premier League. A see-saw match looked to have gone the way of Mumbai when a second rain delay stopped Gujarat's chase with another 24 runs needed from 12 balls - the visitors behind on the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method. But the rain stopped and Gujarat's target was adjusted to 147, leaving them 15 to get from the final six balls as the match resumed moments before the cut-off at 00:30 local time. Rahul Tewatia hit the first ball for four and two balls later Gerald Coetzee slammed a straight six to leave four to get from three balls. Bowler Deepak Chahar then overstepped to gift the Titans another run, only for Coetzee to be caught off the penultimate ball with the scores level. New batter Arshad Khan scrambled the one run needed from the last ball for the Titans, although Mumbai skipper Hardik Pandya still could have forced a super over but missed with his throw from mid-on when a direct hit would have run out Arshad. The Titans won by three runs via the DLS method. That all came after the visitors were cruising at 107-2 in pursuit of 156 until the first rain delay, after which they lost 4-25 in four overs amid an electric spell of fast bowling from Mumbai's quicks. Jasprit Bumrah took two wickets, Trent Boult one and Ashwani Kumar the other - all of which was in vain for Mumbai who also would have topped the table with a win. Also wasted was 53 from 35 balls by England all-rounder Will Jacks in Mumbai's 155-8. Jacks, whose fifty was his first for the franchise, put on 73 with Suryakumar Yadav but Mumbai lost 6-58 after Suryakumar was dismissed for 35. The Titans, for whom Jos Buttler scored 30 before the rain, move level on points with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, but sit top of the table courtesy of their superior net run-rate. Mumbai stay in the play-off places in fourth but, having played a game more than those below them, have work to do to qualify for the play-offs.

'Fraud!' Fans express frustration over GT finisher Rahul Tewatia's duck against KKR in IPL 2025

In Match 39 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Gujarat Titans (GT), the host city opted to bowl first at Eden Gardens. However, barring this decision, little seemed to go in their favor as GT posted a solid 198 runs on the board, with their top three once again doing the heavy lifting — and Rahul Tewatia failing to deliver. Shubman Gill (90 off 55) began cautiously, while Sai Sudharsan (52 off 36) struck a few boundaries, helping GT reach 45 runs in the powerplay. Once the field restrictions eased, the skipper shifted gears, and both openers completed their half-centuries by the 11th over. Despite a slower pitch, they maintained a brisk run rate, playing sensible cricket and avoiding unnecessary risks. KKR's fielding was sloppy, with several misfields and two dropped catches off Buttler. Gill narrowly missed out on a century, falling 10 runs short — and in came Rahul Tewatia. Known as the team's finisher, Tewatia had the opportunity to push GT further ahead but faltered against Harshit Rana, who had been wicketless until then. The pacer, struggling for breakthroughs, finally struck with a slower ball. Tewatia, attempting to drive a full delivery outside off, lost control, slicing it to deep cover where Ramandeep Singh completed a clean catch — sending Tewatia back for a two-ball duck. Fans frustrated Rahul Tewatia has built a strong reputation in recent IPL seasons, but his form in 2025 has been disappointing. Part of the reason has been limited chances, as the top order has consistently done the bulk of the scoring. As a bowler too, Tewatia hasn't had a single opportunity to bowl in the 8 matches GT has played so far. Fans voiced their frustration on X (formerly Twitter), with some even branding him a 'fraud' out of anger. One posted, "Sir Rahul Tewatia entering the elite club of Duck Collectors like a true legend!"
