Congress govt. has fulfilled 242 promises out of 593 in two years, claims Siddaramaiah
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday said that the State government is delivering good governance. It has fulfilled 242 out of the 593 promises in the last two years, while the BJP government when it was in power didn't fulfil even 10% of the promises that it made, Mr. Siddaramaiah claimed. He was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the decennial ceremony of the implementation of Article 371(J), Budakattu Samskritika Utsav and naming of Raichur University after Maharshi Valmiki at Yaragera village in Raichur district on Monday. The Chief Minister also distributed benefits to beneficiaries of various schemes, laid foundation stone and inaugurated various development works worth ₹936 crore. Listing out the good work done by the Congress government, he expressed the confidence that people of the region will support the government and also the Congress by electing its candidates in all the seven Assembly seats of Raichur district in the next elections. Comparing the Congress rule with the BJP rule in the State, the Chief Minister said that the Congress government has initiated development works at a cost of ₹936 crore in Raichur district alone. 'It is clear and evident that the Opposition parties are lying about the State's financial condition, that the government has no money for development works. The BJP and the Janata Dal(S), that have a habit of misleading people, didn't put in any efforts to develop the State when they were in power. But they are unable to tolerate the development being taken up by the Congress government not only in Raichur district but also in the entire State,' he said. Taking a dig at BJP leaders, Mr. Siddaramaiah said that they have no moral rights to criticise the government and its commitment in developing the Kalyan Karnataka region. Mr. Siddaramaiah said that it was the BJP that opposed Article 371(J) for the backward Kalyan Karnataka region. However, senior leader Mallikarjun Kharge made it possible with the cooperation of the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress leader Sonia Gandhi. 'Because of the special status, this region is getting a ₹5,000 crore annual grant, thousands are getting medical and engineering seats and the educated are getting government jobs under the provision,' he said. The Chief Minister explained how the State is being subjected to injustice by the Centre in releasing funds. 'Big injustice has been done to the State in the 15th Finance Commission, because of which the State has to face a deficit of ₹80,000 crore. No single BJP parliamentarian has questioned it. The State has already submitted memoranda and raised issues. Now, I will again meet the Prime Minister to make it correct in the 16th Finance Commission,' he said. Before concluding his speech, Mr. Siddaramaiah appealed to the people to elect MLA Basanagouda Daddal again, giving him another chance to serve the people. People will not tolerate if you belittle opposition, Kharge tells PM Modi
Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday (June 23, 2025) slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for "trivialising" the opposition and criticised his absence from the all-party meetings convened after the Pahalgam terror attack. Mr. Kharge said the Prime Minister's absence reflects his scant respect for the opposition. Addressing a public gathering here, Mr. Kharge remarked that the country was going through a difficult phase. "Recently, Pakistani terrorists killed 26 people in Pahalgam. In response, the Indian armed forces carried out strikes on terror facilities inside Pakistan and eliminated the terrorists," he said. He alleged that while the entire nation and the armed forces worked in unison to defend the country, some individuals tried to take personal credit. "Had they served in the Army as a captain, colonel, or lieutenant colonel, we would have appreciated them for doing a great job and fighting for the country. But that is not the case," Mr. Kharge said, without directly naming anyone. Mr. Kharge was in Raichur along with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Congress ministers, and MLAs, where he laid the foundation stone for several projects and presided over the naming ceremony of Raichur University. The Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha said Congress was the first to demand an all-party meeting on the Pahalgam terror strike. "When the meetings were convened twice, the prime minister failed to attend on both occasions. I want to ask him why he did not attend". He noted that leaders from Kanyakumari to Kashmir had left behind important engagements to attend the meeting, yet the PM chose not to attend despite being in the country. "Instead, he was busy campaigning for the Bihar elections. What does that mean? While the country and soldiers were fighting on one side, the prime minister chose to campaign on the other, after inviting us to an all-party meeting. This is inappropriate," Kharge said. He warned that such an attitude does not bode well. "If you try to belittle the opposition, the leaders, people, and especially the youth of this country will not tolerate it," Kharge cautioned. Mr. Kharge also took a dig at the PM for his failure to stop the USA from imposing retaliatory taxes. "Modi was shouting the slogan 'Phir Ek Baar Trump Sarkar' (during the US elections). This great man said this in America, but Trump imposed hefty taxes on Indian goods. The PM did not speak a word on it," Mr. Kharge said. The Congress chief reminded the prime minister that Iran had always supported India as the country imports 50% of its fuel requirement from there. "Now there is an armed conflict going on between Iran and Israel. We should have made attempts to stop it," the veteran Congress leader said. Mr. Kharge said Modi's only loud slogan is that he is going to be the "Vishwa Guru". "Whether you are Vishwa Guru or Guru at Home, what people want is petrol, diesel, food, clothes and roof over head. We wanted him to strive for these things...," the Congress chief said. Mr. Kharge also alleged the saffronisation of education. "Today the RSS syllabus is being taught in the universities, Morarji Desai residential schools and Kendriya Vidyalayas," he alleged. The Congress leader also claimed that everywhere, the RSS people are getting postings for their children while others are struggling for survival. He also stated that the Congress party's guarantees are being implemented effectively across the country. "Some jealous leaders and political parties are trying to undermine our guarantees. But they will not succeed in their efforts," he said. Mr. Kharge added that criticising and defaming welfare initiatives that have directly benefited women and other citizens will not impress the people. He claimed that the way the Congress government is striving for social justice, the BJP cannot do it anywhere in the country.

CM will lay foundation stones for various works at a cost of ₹936 crore in Raichur on June 23
Chief Minister will lay foundation stones for various development works at a cost of ₹936 crore it is to mark the decennial celebration of Article 371(J), and he will inaugurate Tribal Utsav in Raichur on June 23, said Basanagouda Daddal, MLA. He was addressing a joint press conference with MP G. Kumar Naik in Raichur on Friday. Mr. Daddal said that the cost of the project for which a foundation stone will be laid and the various development works will be inaugurated is ₹936 crore. 'The Chief Minister will rename Raichur University as Maharshi Valmiki University, inaugurate the exhibition for handicrafts made by tribal communities, and distribute the vehicles and sewing machines sanctioned for eligible men and women during the event,' he said. Mr. Naik said that implementation of Article 371(J) for the Kalyan Karnataka region was a significant step taken by the then UPA government at centre, and therefore, a decennial ceremony will be organised to mark the celebration since it was implemented 10 years ago. Explaining in detail about the works that have already been taken up and going to lay a foundation stone, Mr. Naik said that 185 additional rooms for 27 existing schools, kitchens and toilets at a cost of ₹24 crore. Five new school buildings at a cost of ₹12 crore, 27 community halls at ₹6 crore, construction of CC roads and drainage at ₹6 crore, 24 BT roads at ₹111 crore, six tanks filling and lift irrigation works at ₹289 crore, a bridge cum barrage at ₹152 crore, renovation of 218 temples at ₹21 crore, repair of 12 churches at ₹3 crore, development of 35 masjids, dargahs and Ashurkhan at ₹2.83 crore, a multi-village drinking water project at ₹222 crore, and construction of 36 libraries at a cost of ₹7 crore. Construction of community toilets in 12 villages for ₹3 crore, construction of community, primary and health sub-centres at a cost of ₹6 crore, construction of a genome centre, gardens and teaching rooms at Maharshi Valmiki University at ₹48 crore; a veterinary hospital at ₹40 lakh; and a tree park at ₹2 crore are included. A. Vasant Kumar, Basavaraj Patil Itagi, Mallikarjun Patil, Razak Ustad, Abdul Kareem, Jayanth Rao Patange, Rajshekhar, Aslam Pasha, Chandrasekhar Patil, Nagendrappa Matamari, Pampapathi, and Channabasu, MLCs were present.
