Cops warn against fake QR code fraud
Jaipur: Rajasthan Police Wednesday cautioned public against a new method of cyber fraud involving fake QR codes, urging shopkeepers and customers to stay alert. Fraudsters are sticking counterfeit QR codes over genuine ones at shops, diverting payments to their own bank accounts instead of the shopkeeper's, they said. According to Shantanu Kumar, SP Cyber Crime , the cyber wing released an advisory explaining this emerging scam. People using payment apps like Paytm, PhonePe, or Google Pay are being tricked when they scan these fake codes, unknowingly transferring money to criminals. In most cases, shopkeepers realised something was wrong only when no payment notification was received, but by then the customer left and the transaction was complete. This delay made recovery of money nearly impossible. Rajasthan Police advised shopkeepers to place QR codes in secure, tamper-proof spots, preferably within their line of sight. They should remove the codes at night and inspect them regularly for signs of tampering. Rajasthan State employee who was detained earlier arrested for espionage
The Rajasthan Police's intelligence unit has arrested a State government employee on charges of spying for Pakistan. He had been under surveillance for suspicious activities for an extended period. The accused, Shakur Khan, was earlier detained on May 28 and subjected to an intensive interrogation by multiple agencies. Khan, 49, working as an assistant administrative officer (AAO) at the district employment office in Jaisalmer, was allegedly passing sensitive and strategic information to his handlers in Pakistan. He obtained Pakistani visas on several occasions and travelled to Pakistan without reporting to higher authorities. Inspector General of Police (Security) Vishnu Kant said here on Tuesday that Khan was in regular contact with some individuals working at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, especially Ahsan-ur-Rahim, alias Danish, and Sohail Qamar. Danish was declared persona non grata by the Union government last month and was asked to leave India immediately. 'During his visits to Pakistan, Khan came in contact with the agents of the Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI). He collected sensitive information after returning to India and transmitted it to his Pakistani handlers through WhatsApp and other social media platforms,' Mr. Kant said in a statement. Khan had access to sensitive documents while working in the border district of Jaisalmer. Since the matter constituted a serious security breach, a case was registered under the Official Secrets Act, 1923, and Khan was arrested, Mr. Kant said. A court in Jaipur, where Khan was produced under strict security on Tuesday, remanded him to police custody for seven days. Pakistani contacts As per the first information report, Khan had several Pakistani phone numbers saved in his three mobile phones, which have been seized and sent for technical analysis. He allegedly shared strategically important videos and images with his handlers on these numbers, but this material had been deleted. A native of Mangliyon Ki Dhani hamlet in Jaisalmer district's Badoda Gaon village, Khan served as a personal assistant to former Minister Saleh Mohammed during the previous Congress regime. Khan's association with Mr. Mohammed has led to a political controversy since his detention. Pradesh Congress Committee president Govind Singh Dotasra said being a personal assistant to a Minister did not constitute a valid ground to implicate the Minister or his family in a crime. 'We have nothing to do with any criminal or anti-national activity. If the police have received some inputs, they should investigate and take action against the accused,' Mr. Dotasra said.

Raj govt employee arrested for espionage, links to Pakistan embassy staff and ISI
The intelligence department of Rajasthan Police on Tuesday arrested a Jaisalmer-based state government employee on charges of espionage after they found him to have links with two Pakistan embassy staff and the Pakistan's spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), officials said. 'Shakur Khan, who had been working as an assistant administrative officer at the Jaisalmer employment office since 2013, was detained by the department on May 28 for questioning after police found his movement suspicious,' Vishnu Kant, inspector general (IG) of the security department, said. Khan had earlier served as a personal assistant of former Congress minister Saleh Mohammed from 2008-2013, who was then a sitting MLA from Pokhran, the officials said. 'He was on our radar for a long time. He visited Pakistan seven times in the last few years. During questioning, we found out that he was in regular touch with two Pakistan embassy staff — Ehsaan-Ur-Rehman alias Danish and Sohail Qamar. Danish was an official in the Pakistan embassy in India but was identified as a suspicious entity and sent back to Pakistan by the Indian government a few years ago,' the IG said. Kant further said, 'Khan had visited Pakistan several times for which Danish helped him getting the visa. Danish and Sohail also got him in touch with ISI agents. Khan had been sending them confidential military information through WhatsApp.' 'This is a serious security breach, as his position would have given him access to a lot of sensitive information. Khan's activities are in violation of the Official Secrets Act 1923. A case has been registered against him under this Act and he has been arrested,' the officer said. Meanwhile, Khan's background of serving as a personal assistant of a former Congress minister sparked a political controversy in the state, with the Rajasthan parliamentary affairs minister Jogaram Patel saying, 'Saleh Mohammed should comment on it, and the police should also question him.' The development comes a week after the Delhi police and intelligence agencies arrested Hasim Mev, a cousin of a man named Kasim Mev from Deeg district of Rajasthan, in connection with another case of espionage.

Towel, Shaver & Australian Address: Courier For Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi Raises Alarm
The parcel, reportedly sent by a woman, may have been a test run to check whether a delivery could successfully reach Bishnoi inside the high-security jail A mysterious parcel from Australia, addressed to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi at Sabarmati Central Jail in Gujarat, has triggered concern among Indian security agencies. The package was intercepted at a foreign post office in Gujarat, which handles international shipments to and from the state, and has since become the subject of a multi-agency probe. The parcel was reportedly sent under the name Vandana Gaur, with an address in Australia that is now believed to be fake, according to intelligence sources. Curiously, the contents of the package—a towel and a strong shaver—were ordinary, which only deepened suspicions. Officials are questioning why someone would send such commonplace items from abroad, suggesting the parcel may have been a test run to check whether a delivery could successfully reach Bishnoi inside the high-security jail. What has further raised eyebrows is the fact that the sender reportedly paid around Rs 7,000 as international parcel charges, a considerable sum given the low value and easily available nature of the contents. This has added to suspicions that the shipment may have had an ulterior motive beyond what is visible. This isn't the first time such an attempt has been made. Sources say a similar incident occurred earlier in a different state, pointing to a possible pattern. Meanwhile, in a related crackdown, the Rajasthan Police's Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) has arrested Aditya Jain, a key member of the Lawrence Bishnoi–Rohit Godara gang, from Dubai. Jain is accused of acting as a 'control room" for the gang—coordinating extortion rackets and issuing threat calls on behalf of the network. Bishnoi, despite being lodged in Sabarmati Jail, continues to operate his criminal syndicate using VPNs and mobile phones, according to investigators. His name has come up in several high-profile cases, including the murder of Sidhu Moose Wala, threats to actor Salman Khan, the killing of a gym owner in South Delhi, and most recently, the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique. Born into a well-off agricultural family in Dhattaranwali village in Punjab's Ferozepur district, Bishnoi belongs to the Bishnoi community, prevalent in Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan. He moved to Chandigarh in 2010 for college, where he joined DAV College and later became president of the Student Organisation of Panjab University (SOPU) from 2011 to 2012, marking the beginning of his descent into organised crime.
