Ex-headmaster gets 4-yr jail term
Berhampur: The special vigilance court in Phulbani on Saturday sentenced the former headmaster and secretary of school management committee of Rangapaju UP School in Tumudibandh block to four years of rigorous imprisonment for the misappropriation of around Rs 2.5 lakh govt funds.
Rajesh Dash, the judge, also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the accused, Subash Chandra Nayak. Nayak would undergo an additional four months of rigorous imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine, said VV Ramdas, the special public prosecutor.
Ramdas said the court convicted Nayak after examining 12 witnesses and verifying relevant court documents. According to sources, vigilance will now escalate the matter to the competent authority for Nayak's dismissal from service following his conviction.
