MakeMyTrip launches AI-enabled travel agent Myra

Online travel booking platform MakeMyTrip has introduced an AI-powered virtual travel agent that can guide users through every step of their journey on the website, from trip planning and booking to handling post-sales queries such as cancellations and refunds, via both voice and text. Users can ask complex and open-ended queries in the realm of travel in Hindi or English like 'Where can I go in August for a relaxing holiday with my kids?,' or 'I want to go to south India to cover Madurai, Rameswaram, Kovalam, Kodaikanal. Can you suggest me the best route? But I don't want to travel via flight'. The virtual assistant Myra is built on a network of specialised AI agents across all major travel categories, flights, accommodation, holidays, ground transport, visas, and forex. It supports multimodal input (text, voice, image, video), continuous back-and-forth dialogue, itinerary edits, and post-sales support — all within the same interface. Myra will gives user personalised answers based on up-to-date availability, prices, and relevance. MakeMyTrip claims that while most AI travel tools only offer suggestions to users, this tool goes a step further by helping users move from travel ideas to actually helping travellers book their travel and complete payment online – something that hasn't been tried before. It will offer assistance not just with flights and hotels but also holiday planning, ground transport such as cabs and buses, visas and forex. CEO Rajesh Magow said such digital innovations helped 'reach the deepest corners, and bringing seamless, intelligent travel booking to those who have long been underserved by digital platforms.' 'MakeMyTrip has seen travel demand penetration grow deeper over the years, from metro to top 15 cities many years ago to now as many as 2,000 unique cities,' he told The Hindu. The portal commands more than 50% market share among all online travel booking portals. Myra may be able to facilitate bookings for an individual but it lacks the complexities of negotiating, handling customer bargains, accounting for individual preferences for a group bookings like a human travel agent, or helping during a travel emergency. 'Even if AI is able to do 50% of a human tour manager's work, there will still be room for workforce in other tasks and AI related human intervention,' he added. The tool is currently available in Hindi and English and will be expanded to include other regional languages too. It is currently available in beta version which will be released to a limited group of real users for testing before the official launch. Group Chief Technology Officer Sanjay Mohan called the product 'the most ambitious build' undertaken by the company. In the next stage, MakeMyTrip will add smarter search tools that can understand the meaning behind what you're looking for, even from images and videos. This means one won't have to rely only on fixed filters and can search in a more intuitive manner. The system will be able to pick up on subtle travel needs, making it easier and more personal to find what you want.

MakeMyTrip launches multilingual GenAI Trip Planning Assistant, making travel booking conversational and inclusive

MakeMyTrip has launched a GenAI-enabled Trip Planning Assistant, that will assist users at every stage of travel planning, from discovery to fulfilment, and beyond, the company said on Thursday. The company said users would find conversational assistance through their entire journey, from destination-discovery, shopping, in-trip, and post-sales scenarios. MakeMyTrip said the new GenAI Trip Planning Assistant is a notable upgrade to the existing AI agent, Myra, and will make the experience 'seamless' and 'conversational', enabling travellers to interact via voice and text. The company said this will ensure that users across India who have previously been unable to book due to discomfort with the English language, will now be able to do so. The Beta version of Myra is now live in English and Hindi, and the company plans to expand this to multiple Indian languages. MakeMyTrip said the GenAI Trip Planning Assistant, Myra, is built on a network of specialised AI agents across all major travel categories, flights, accommodation, holidays, ground transport, visas, and forex. It supports multimodal input (text, voice, image, video), continuous back-and-forth dialogue, itinerary edits, and post-sales support—all within the same interface. Users can ask complex and open-ended queries in the realm of travel in Hindi or English like "Where can I go in August for a relaxing holiday with my kids? Or "I want to go to south India to cover Madurai, Rameswaram, Kovalam, Kodaikanal. Can you suggest me the best route? I don't want to travel via flight' and receive personalised responses based on real-time availability, pricing, and relevance. The company said multiple AI platforms globally stop at suggestions, but Myra is taking a course that hasn't been attempted before by bridging the gap between inspiration and actual booking, letting users move from query to confirmed booking in one conversational journey built on voice end-to-end. Rajesh Magow, Co-Founder and Group CEO, MakeMyTrip said by enabling access initially in Hindi, and expanding to multiple Indian languages soon, this launch has the potential to solve for the 'Bharat' heartland, reaching the deepest corners, and bringing intelligent travel booking to those who've long been underserved by digital platforms. "It brings together the full strength of our platform, including customer preferences data, supply, user-generated content, personalization, and real-time intelligence, to power the next era of travel: connected journeys that intuitively adapt to each traveller's needs, from start to finish," he added. Sanjay Mohan, group CTO at MakeMyTrip said the company's in-house team has developed custom language models and layered them with planning, scheduling, and verification systems that work in sync and respond in real time. "The result is a multi-agent AI framework that collaborates across categories to deliver a seamless experience. The system is currently in beta, allowing us to learn from real interactions and continue strengthening it,' he added. In 2023, MakeMyTrip became one of the first travel platforms to integrate GenAI into its core booking experience. This early investment in AI builds on a broader track record of using technology to solve real-world traveller challenges. Over the years, the platform has introduced features such as Fare Lock, Zero Cancellation, voice-led customer support, and, recently, predictive tools for train bookings. The company said the next phase of development will introduce 'richer' semantic search capabilities, AI-driven use cases on images & videos, enabling users to move beyond structured filters and interact through more abstract, intent-led queries.

Travel aggregator MakeMyTrip targets 'Bharat' with GenAI travel assistant

Travel aggregator MakeMyTrip is looking to bring new customers from 'Bharat' into its fold, it said on Thursday during the launch of its new generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) chat-based trip planning assistant. An upgrade to its existing AI agent, Myra, the new version will help users at every stage of travel planning — from discovery to fulfilment, and post-sales assistance. 'India has nearly a billion internet users, but there continues to be a huge gap between them and people buying travel services online. This update, which enables users to seamlessly interact with the AI assistant via voice and text, will bring more users — particularly from Bharat — into the ambit of the online travel buying experience,' said Rajesh Magow, co-founder and group chief executive officer at MakeMyTrip. To help bridge this gap, the beta version of Myra is available in English and Hindi. 'But we have plans to soon expand this offering to other regional languages,' Magow added. 'We have been investing in artificial intelligence (AI) since 2017 and have seen its benefits — how it helps create more personalised and relevant search options for users. GenAI definitely poses a huge potential for travel,' he further said. The GenAI assistant is built on a network of specialised AI agents across all major travel categories — flights, accommodation, holidays, ground transport, visas, and foreign exchange — while supporting multimodal input (text, voice, image, video), continuous back-and-forth dialogue, itinerary edits, and post-sales support, all within the same interface. The online travel agency (OTA) recently reported its first quarter results for the financial year 2026 (Q1FY26), with an 11 per cent year-on-year (Y-o-Y) uptick in net profit to $49,429 from $44,523, while its revenue from operations grew 5.6 per cent Y-o-Y to $268,846.
