City amusement parks plan to deploy more medics & lifeguards, bolster safety checks

Kolkata: A day after an 18-year-old student died at Nicco Park's water park, the authorities of three major amusement destinations in Kolkata — Nicco Park, Aquatica, and Happy Valley Park — initiated a series of precautionary measures to prevent such tragedies in the future. On Thursday, core committee officials from all three water parks held emergency meetings with staff to review internal protocols and stress the importance of heightened vigilance. According to park authorities, instructions were issued to frontline personnel and security guards to remain more alert. A key decision emerging from the meetings was to step up on-site medical infrastructure. All three parks are now considering increasing the number of doctors and nurses stationed within their premises, especially during peak operational hours. We are now considering hiring another doctor and more trained nurses to deal with emergency situations in the future," said Nicco Park MD Rajesh Raisinghani. In addition to medical staffing, the authorities have decided to intensify the frequency of safety inspections of rides and facilities. These checks will be mandatory before visitors are allowed entry each day. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy Resmed AirSense 11 with flat 20% off ResMed Buy Now Undo "Routine checks were already in place. But now they will be conducted more rigorously, particularly focusing on water rides and areas prone to crowding or slippery surfaces. The engineering team will start work to ensure the rides are completely safe," said Khondokar Rakib, a senior official at Aquatica. Rakib added they already had two resident paramedics and also have a tie-up with a nearby private hospital to meet any emergency situation. This apart, all three water parks have agreed to increase the number of lifeguards. Staff and security personnel will also be trained in life-saving techniques, including CPR, as part of their routine induction and refresher programmes. "We have already reached out to emergency response professionals for conducting workshops. While there is a primary health centre right next to our facility, we are considering getting our own ambulance to ensure visitors can get immediate medical attention," said Debobroto Roy of Happy Valley Park.
